No flights found?

Hi KVS,

Rookie question. I have no doubt that the error lies with me, and not the software. But would you be so kind as to help me figure out where I’m going wrong? I’ve read the User Guide and FAQ but I’m still stumped.

I am simply interested in booking a flight in one of the fare classes that appear for my search.

In this case, it’s YUL to LYS on May 21.

I see a flight with AY at $202 in booking class O. I see 4 O seats available under the Availability section, and I’ve also read the Fare Rules and the Routing Rules, and everything looks good. But when I plug the numbers into ITA (using your handy “Find Flights Using This Fare” function) it consistently gives me “No flights found.”

I tried it for another class (K) on LH just for fun and I got the same thing.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

gonebabygone: Two things.

1. I've taken to searching ITA while explicitly turning off the option "Only show flights and prices with available seats". This way, it's easy to verify that it is in fact theoretically possible to follow the fare basis code you mentioned on a trip that went from, say, May 21 to May 28. So that's a good start.

2. After seeing that that's possible, you then have to check availability. By turning back on the option "Only show flights and prices with available seats" and performing the search again, we notice that flights are no longer found. By taking each flight segment individually and checking availability we see that there is O-class availability for the YMQ-LHR flight on the 21st but no O-class availability for the LHR-LYS flight on the 22nd. So that's what's stopping you from booking at this fare, I'd say.

Welcome to FT!

What specific routing and flight numbers did you check Availability for?
Also, what is your return date?

Try the JL-OneWorld method with BA as the Airline.

Bad news though, sorry.

Availability / Fare cannot change POS

Hi, I hope someone can help me on this:

I am searching with Fares and Availability using Availability/FS and Fares /PSH (Fares/FC is not in the list) and I cannot change the POS. It is set to US for availability and RU for fares with a greyed out box, I cannot change that.

Especially on the fare search that´s a limitation as I suspect the POS RU has quite a few restriction that don´t apply to the one I need to look at (CH or IT).

Thanks for an hints on how to get this to work!

POS Country-restricted Fares are quite rare, so that setting would make no practical difference.

The main KVS Tool application and the Mobile Companion have different Availability POSs, so such small variations are quite normal:

Apologies if this has probably been covered before. Just purchased the KVS tool the other day to make it easier to check for BA Club World Redemption seats on two flights I'm booked WT+ currently in so I can try and upgrade.

Am I correct in saying when (if any) seats become available they will show up when I search for seating availability as booking class U? Currently when searching for each flight that booking class doesn't show up at all, not even as U0. Is this normal?

BA told me, and I've confirmed with the KVS tool that on each flight only a couple of CW seats have been booked so there is a good chance some redemption seats will appear and I don't want to miss them.

Does the KVS tool have some sort of alert system to let me know if any seats appear?

You need to use the Awards/Upgrades tab not the availability tab to search for available redemption seats. I find it best to use the Awards/JL-OneWorld in the Method drop down and then set BA British Airways in the Airline drop down.

Then put in your flights and see what comes up. For CW availability you are looking for the CS result where the number after CS tells you how many seats are presently available.

Thanks. I did try that but was a little concerned when it said "No Award Availability/Route Too Complex". I understand the first part, but the second part seems to suggest that there could be seats, but I've put in a complex route to show them.

Saying that it was a simple flight I put in, SFO>LHR so I guess the second part doesn't apply here. But still leaves a little doubt in my mind that I've made a mistake when doing the search and could miss the chance.

Just tried that but seems I need a JL membership. Am I fine to just use the BA-OneWorld method instead?

I prefer the JL method because it shows you all the seats available or 0 if there are none available. This avoids the 'no seats/route too complex' message. Suggest you sign up for a free JL account. Costs nothing and lets you use the JL method.

Thank you, I will use that method.

If you are redeeming Avios, you may want to stick to the [Awards/BA-OneWorld] engine since it tracks seats available for Avios redemption. Well, at least in theory.

As others have stated, the [Awards/JL-OneWorld] tends to be very accurate, especially for those of us trying to redeem AA miles for CX flights.

But one thing to keep in mind: Make sure you search segment-by-segment to avoid misapplied "married segments" logic and the like. The KVS User Guide/FAQ warns of this problem in general and gives a specific reminder for the [Awards/OneWorld] (aka Qantas) engine. It is longstanding, sage advice.

I haven't seen this problem on the JL engine before, but apparently it exists because I ran into it while researching a SGN-HKG-JFK trip for 2 on CX. A simple SGN-NYC search showed a single J seat, while SGN-HKG showed 4 and HKG-JFK showed 2. When I called to book today, the AA agent had the same problem until I asked nicely if she could check the SGN-HKG segment on its own. Seats were found, the trip was booked, and everyone learned something new.

st1575 I didn't think there was a different in availability between the BA-Oneworld and JL-Oneworld methods for Avios redemptions. Can you expand on this please?

They might be the same for BA flights, but not always for other carriers.

Taking the example of my CX redemption for early January 2015, the BA engine wasn't showing the same HKG-EWR (the new flight) J availability as the JL engine at one point, along the lines of 2 vs. 3. I re-verified using the CX engine, which seemed to confirmed JL's number. The HKG-JFK numbers were the same.

Thanks. Understood. I tend to mainly use it for BA flights so I've probably not come across.

Has anyone use KVS or have a know the specific fare code that Amex Platinum uses for their free companion program for first/business class?

From memory I think it has to be a fully flexible fare so F or J probably. Unless one has a really good reason to purchase a fully flexible fare it's a pretty terrible deal IMO and always has been.

The Booking Class(es) used and procedures vary by carrier (e.g. some will use the most expensive J-Class Fare for the 1st PAX and book both PAX into Z Class, etc.)

Please contact AMEX Travel for exact details.

Is there a demo or trial version of the tool? Without EF, I've been manually searching R availability to try to use GPUs and it has been extremely tedious to search over several months for each route one by one. I'd like to be able to type in a route and view R availability for a few months. Or better yet, get a notification. If KVS can solve the issue, I'd gladly subscribe. However, I don't want to commit to $60 (I think I will need platinum) if it ends up not meeting my needs.

Or if I do the 2mo plan, can I upgrade to 6mo or annual later?

You can use the new [Power Search] feature at the Diamond level to help you locate Award/Upgrade Availability:

Hi all,

I have just got the KVS tool today. I did a very simple search from Tallahasee to Atlanta, it is odd that I did not get any result back.

What I am planning to do is to search from Tallahassee to Beijing, which I always get "No Results/Route Too Complex", So I break it to Tallahassee to Atlanta, Atlanta to Beijing. From Atlanta to Beijing, it works great. But it gives "No Results/Route Too Complex" when search from Tallahassee to Atlanta.

Please help, thanks a lot.

Mike

Thanks a lot for the quick reply, really appreciate it.

To use the [Awards/AC-StarAlliance], it need the AC AE number, which I don't have it currently. Is it a credit card number? or a number which I can get for free.

Thanks again.

Thanks, I have signed up as a diamond user and figured out how to do a search for R space over a month. It runs a bit slower than I thought it would, but it is still less tedious than doing it manually. Is there a way to have it not stop after finding the first result? I'd like to see all results of the 30 day period. Actually, it would be nice if I could have it keep going for longer than 30 days without having to click again.

Also, I did not realize, that your tool acts as a web browser to united. Does this tool violate any of the TOS of united.com? I don't want united to complain to me that I'm doing something wrong.

"User agrees not to modify, copy, alter, distribute, transmit, display, perform, reproduce, publish, license, create derivative works from, transfer, or sell any information, software, products or services ..."
This isnt considered copying or creating derivative works?

Is this considered an automatic device to copy the content?

I suppose this is not adding any more load than me searching manually.

The Power Search is designed to locate the first available date. However, you can continue the search going forward by clicking the [Power Search] button again.

No, you are just viewing a web page (unless you decide to do something else with it).

No, it is a web browser.

That is correct.

Is it possible to search multiple destination airports?

I´ve been playing with the KVS tool a lot lately and had a functionality question.

I think this is not possible but I could be wrong. Say I am ex-WAS, the origin will always be the same, but suppose I had a long list of possible destination airports, like anything in SoFla or the Caribbean for example. Is there a way I can supply the whole list of destination airports and have KVS crank through, say, MIA, FLL, PBI, SXM, SJU, STT, NAS, GCB, MBJ, CUN, PUJ, ANU, AUA, for example, all at once and display all the results in the output box, as opposed to doing it all one by one? And for that matter, adding multiple alliances to search? The tool .does. do this, but not all at once. It would save loads of time if I could queue up a mass search. Is there a scripting language like ITA has?

YS ex-WAS to anywhere warm this Friday after work for the three day weekend is essentially non-existent right now but the search would be far less painful if I could bulk search.

You cannot specify multiple cities at once.

However, you can run multiple instances of the KVS Tool (on the same machine) to search different routes (or alliances) simultaneously.

I'm looking for a CX F award seat around 22-25 February HKG-JFK. Using the JL method looking for CX on HKG-JFK (the way I always search that route), only CX 846 is showing up, only that one flight on the listing although they run 4 flights/day. Any ideas?

You need to specify [Time:] to see those flights when using the [Awards/JL-OneWorld] Method:

[KVS Availability Tool 7.3.4/Diamond - Awards/JL-OneWorld/US]
Code:

HKG  Hong Kong Intl HK [VHHH]
JFK  New York John F Kennedy Intl NY US [KJFK]
SAT  22 Feb 2014

Carrier    Flight  From  Depart    To    Arrive    A/C  St  Availability
---------  ------  ----  --------  ----  --------  ---  --  -------------
CX        830    HKG  09:35    JFK  12:10    77W  0  FS0  CS0  YS4
CX        840    HKG  16:20    JFK  19:15    77W  0  FS0  CS0  YS4
CX        846    HKG  19:45    JFK  22:25    77W  0  FS0  CS0  YS4
CX        838    HKG  16:25    YVR  11:45    77W  0  FS/  CS0  YS0
 -> CX    888    YVR  21:50    JFK  06:00 +1  77W  0  FS0  CS0  YS0

That's it!! Set the time to "Default" and found exactly what I was looking for. Well, sort of. Is there a setting to make the flights I want become available????

The [Fares/FC] Engine is not currently available -- please use [Fares/PSH] in the meantime.

How do I specify oneworld airlines only in the airline box with the PSH method? Thanks in advance for the quick help!

Edit: I also get an error about unable to get Forex rate on 90% of my search results.

The [Fares/PSH] Engine only supports searches for all airlines or 1 specific airline.

The FOREX server was experiencing intermittent issues a few days ago, but is functioning normally at the moment.

If you are still experiencing this issue, please provide a screenshot via http://Contact.KVSTool.com/
