KVS retaliating for my critique on MilePoint?

I am due for renewal of my KVS Diamond subscription in October. So I have paid new 12 months subscription on 17 September. However, I have not received new codes in 7 days, so on 25 September, I have written to KVS requesting the codes within 24 hours, warning that otherwise I would dispute the charge with my CC provider. KVS immediately issued refund and virtually denied me further access to KVS Tool. What a strange business practice…

For all to be aware (part of the YGM):

After careful consideration, we had to respectfully decline your request for a membership renewal in order to protect the interests of other members. Neither your comments (whether critical or otherwise), nor the wording of your follow-up request played any role in that decision.
So, what did play the role? LMAO!!!

Looks like the "demo" account username and password that are used for that method have been shut down. My guess is that someone finally noticed the high volume of queries from the "demo" user and killed it.

Yes, indeed. The offer is still on the web, but the demo username and password do not work anymore...

Have you checked Availability?
http://www.KVSTool.com/Planning-A-Trip.php

Thanks for the link. I was able to find the times, availability and the fare I want, but I can't seem to figure out how to calculate the tax that will be added on to the base fare. I tried looking at the "Check Routing Rules/MPM" for the fare, but I couldn't understand the results. Is the amount of tax the number that is under the column "NUC" or am I doing something wrong?

To calculate taxes, double click on the desired Fare in the KVS Tool and select [Find Flights Using This Fare].

Every time I do it on the flights to Europe (Same-Day Turn-Around/MR) I get this: No Trips Found. No flight options were found for the first segment of this trip.

What am I doing wrong? I'm doing DCA-FRA or DCA-LHR and every single time I have the same message on ita.

What is the Fare in question and which dates are you using?

After the "No Trips Found" message appears, click [Perform Another Search] -> [More Options] and un-select the [Check seat availability] option.

Couple of questions

1) Any way to check Etihad (EY) award availability with KVS?

2) Any way to check JL available using the JL method (seems to only support Qantas and CX)?

Generally speaking you'll get the most accurate results by using the search tool of the program from which you are redeeming points. If you are redeeming partner points then most of the time it is all the same for all partners but not always. If you see it available give a call and try. Worst they can say is no.

CX is notorious for its system issues when it comes to Award Availability. While CX Award Availability is supported via 4 different engines in the KVS Tool, the data from the recently introduced [Awards/JL-OneWorld] Method is the most authoritative and will match the current Availability that BA/AA and other OneWorld partner agents are seeing.

Assuming you are interested in those 2 F Award Seats, you should call BAEC to redeem ASAP.

It's a false alarm on Avira's end, which has now been reported to them.

Until they update their database, please ignore the warning.

Indeed: http://www.virustotal.com/file-scan/...e72-1318302466

This was a scan of the setup file on the kvs website currently, the same scan of an older file didn't cause the same positive results. As such the evidence points to a change in the program that is causing the scans to find the trojan, as opposed to a change in the AV scanner or definitions.

Moopere Oct 10, 2011 10:49 pm

Is there a problem currently with flightstats.com?

KVS tool errored and led me towards checking my flightstats login. I hadn't changed anything at my end, so I went to flightstats and tried to login to the web page and couldn't.

Got flightstats to send me a password change, which they did, but even that doesn't work. IE9 is reporting certificate errors with the page too (related???)

There is nothing particularly "interesting" about false positives; they can (and do) occur from time-to-time.

A comprehensive scan using 43 AntiVirus products further confirms that there are no issues with the actual KVS Tool executable (V6.5.1.R3):

First, make sure you are using MSIE as the FS site does have issues with certain other browsers.

If the login issue persists, please sign-up for a new FS account.

OK, not to start a war here, and I don't believe it is infected, but pete4212 did that same scan and found the suspicious false positives. Your later scan is NOT on the same file. The MD5 hashes don't match.

As mentioned previously, 41/43 scanners have identified no issues at the time V.6.5.1.R3P2 was published, as shown at http://www.VirusTotal.com/file-scan/...9b4-1318313091

For more accurate results, you should be scanning the actual KVS Tool executable file (and not the Setup package, which contains Microsoft-provided components that are obviously virus-free, but tend to increase the level of False Positives).

Any reports of False Positives should be addressed to the creators of each specific anti-virus product so that they can make the necessary corrections.

Two things:

1) I find that KVS can be unstable when your press “Stop” mid-run? It often hangs. Particularly if during a run it has said that its “Disconnected”.

2) Why does the “Enhanced” seat map show seats that don’t exist whereas the standard seat map does not. For example on a 747 in F on BA, it shows the same as the standard seat map, but also shows seats 1E and 1F as available, but these seats don’t exist. Try BA107 LHR-DXB on any day.

I have submitted the sample to two AV independent experts and while I am still waiting for one of them, I am now confident that it was a false positive and that KVS installation file does not contain any malware.

Indeed, occasionally, the [Stop] button may not be able to abort the connection already in progress. This issue is caused by a bug in one of the components, provided by Microsoft, and it is unlikely that they will fix it.

This has now been confirmed to be an issue with the [Amadeus: Enhanced] Seat Map Engine -- given the amount of interpretation that is involved, engines, sometimes, get confused by complex cabin layouts, such as the one in question...

Needless to say, seats 1E/F do not exist:
