Hi KVS,

Been a while since I posted here, still loving the tool after all these years.

Maybe it's because it's Sunday morning in Sydney and I had a few too many last night, but in searching flights I came up with the following:

[KVS Availability Tool 6.2.0/Diamond - Amadeus Operational Info: US 662/18 Sep 2011]
Code:

US AIRWAYS - US 662

[Planned Flight Info]
DEN-PHX        12:15/Sun - 13:04/Sun  01:49
PHX-SNA        13:55/Sun - 15:12/Sun  01:17

[Flight Notes]
PHX-SNA        DEPARTS TERMINAL 4
DEN-PHX        ARRIVES TERMINAL 4
DEN-SNA        CLASSES SHOWN FAYBMHQNVWLSTGKUER
DEN-PHX        MCT FLIGHT TRACKING D/D
DEN-SNA        MCT FLIGHT TRACKING D/D
PHX-SNA        MCT FLIGHT TRACKING D/D
DEN-PHX        ON-TIME PERF 8MAY11
PHX-SNA        ON-TIME PERF 9MAY11
                SECURED FLIGHT
                ET/ ELECTRONIC TKT CANDIDATE
DEN-PHX        081/006/N/000/ MAY11
PHX-SNA        090/006/N/000/ MAY11

What doe the last two lines mean? I can't for the life of me decipher it. Is it something around on-time performance or open seats or ...

I did a google search, searched this thread, and searched the KVS website and came up with donuts.

More and more I am traveling with just my ipad2 and sometimes it is useful to be able to check award availability but the mobile app does not seem to support that. Any thoughts on when it might be available or if there's another way of checking awards when traveling and not using a PC?
Thanks!

Looks like there is a parsing error shown in this query

[KVS Availability Tool 6.2.0.R2/Diamond - Sabre: Availability/GTC/US-LTR]
Code:

HKG  Hong Kong Intl HK [VHHH]
IST  Istanbul Metro / Ataturk TR = IST SAW [LTBA]
SAT  23 Jul 2011

The aircraft type shows up as a very long string that looks like it contains extra HTML tagging.

As per my thread:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/air-c...l#post16743696

does the KVS tool display allowable routings for Aeroplan award bookings, similar to what it does for AC or other airline revenue bookings?

KVS will validate the MPM for a route or can tell you if a route is a published one (just look up the O-D using availability), but it won't check that your route is in compliance with AE's redemption rules.

CO award in EVA?

Can I see CO award availability in Eva Air using KVS Tool?
I saw BR is supported by KVS, but I don't know how to do it. I have a diamond membership.
thanks

The Mobile Companion is designed to handle the most common on-the-go tasks (currently Flight Availability, Timetables, Operational Flight Info; Seat Maps are coming soon), and is not intended as a replacement for the main KVS Tool application.

Have you considered installing the KVS Tool on a MacBook Air?

Please see http://Help.KVSTool.com/#AwardUpgrad...es_NonAlliance for the current list of Non-Alliance airlines, for which Award Availability is currently supported.

I do not have a MacBook Air so have not considered it. I have a netbook which has KVS on there but I'm hoping someday not to have to carry that as well as my ipad. Would be great if there was an ipad app someday! Love the tool though.

Any way you can VPN and/or Remote Desktop into a PC somewhere else that is running KVS from your iPad (not sure if that is possible since I don't have an iPad)? You'd need to leave that PC running and connected somewhere, but it seems like it would work.

Different availability for same flights depending on query

When I query KVS for two, one way segments - ATH FRA, then FRA YVR, it shows seats available. But when I query ATH YVR, there is no availability for the same flights.

Why is that?

Glad you're enjoying your KVS Tool membership! It is certainly something that may become possible in the future, however, for the time being, the main KVS Tool application does require a 'real' machine to run on, while the KVS Tool Mobile Companion is optimized for mobile & tablet devices (incl. iPhone/iPad).

It is certainly a viable set-up. Here is an example of an App for iPad that can be used for this:

It appears that LH is applying Segment Marriage Logic to Award Availability (most likely in-error): http://Help.KVSTool.com/#Factors

I'm trying to book 4 seats to Europe using oneworld awards. According to KVS there are Z9 seats for ORD-LHR on June 3rd. When I call American to try to book the award, they tell me there is no availablity. KVS shows two flights 4674 & 4676, both having Z9. AA tells me neither flight is available.

Why the disparity?

At the same time AA tells me that flights 296 & 294 have first class award seats available, but I can't use them because they are code share. I understand that, but when I look up those flights, Z fare class doesn't even show up.

I'm so confused.

But AA 4674 is an American Eagle regional flight to Cleveland, and BA 4676 is an AA codeshare to Orlando :confused.

BA 294/296 are flights to London; they are not codeshares.

OK When I use the Availability tool I see IB4676 Z9

Plus How do I see if it is a codeshare flight. When I try to check the exclude codeshare box on filters it doesn't work. Please excuse my ignorance since this is the first time I'm using KVS and I am still in the process of learning.

For OneWorld Award Availability, you need to switch to the [Awards/Upgrades] Tab -- please see the table at http://Help.KVSTool.com/#Classes for the correct Method(s) to use.

You need to switch to [Sabre: FS], as [Sabre: GTC] does not indicate codeshares. Alternatively, you can double-click a flight and request Amadeus Operational Info to verify.

Does the KVS Tracking have a time delay? Or is some information restricted from publication?

I was looking at BA875 21 July. Flight was due to depart DME, was moved to SVO

The data is real-time. The system does handle diversions to alternate airports (after departure), but it gets confused by certain 'unconventional' scenarios, like the change of the departure airport without the change in flight number in your example.

However, BA had removed the Thursday flight from the schedule, so if you had checked yesterday, you could have probably seen the SVO-LHR flight (but it's too late now):

Can this be added?

I am DL DM and my wife is GM. When traveling on points sometimes we have to split the reservations as only 1 seat is available in low. I have about 8 reservations that I check regularly but about 3 I need to check GM availability rather than DM even though they are all booked on my points. Can you put in an option for each reservation to log in with different FF#/Name and pin rather than a global login.

Thanks

Henry

Hi guys,

sorry if the question is stupid but i'm trying the software and i'm wondering if i'm using it in the right way.

i'm looking for fare with one world carrier for a flight MXP-SYD around january next year.

i put in this information

[KVS Availability Tool 6.3.0.R2/Platinum - Sabre: Fares/DotRes/ES]
Code:

SYD  Sydney Kingsford Smith NS AU [YSSY]

why no cathay flight is shown??
if i search only for cathay i can find only a fare of 9330 EUR but on their site i found a fare of EUR 3.102,92 same date.

It is likely that DL only has one 'set' of Elite Award Availability that applies across all Elite tiers, so there should be no difference regardless of which account you use.

It's a 'quirk' of the [Fares/DotRes] Method -- it does not always show Fares on carriers that are not the 'obvious choices' for a route, unless an Airline Code is explicitly specified.

CX must be using private/unpublished Fares on their site (or a combination of 2 or more Fares).

Sorry not true given what DL told me. I used the KVS and found a single low award and tried to give it to here. They told me that the availability was available for DM only not PM or GM.

In that case, one solution would be to use different DL SM credentials on each of your 2 machines, where you have the KVS Tool installed.

I only have 1 computer with KVS installed (I have a second installation but that is for a computer we only use on vacation and is at home while I am on business travel) hence why I asked for the feature change.

How do you get login details for the mobile KVS tool, having registered and paid? There's a checkbox for "I only want access to the mobile tool" but not for "I want mobile access and PC access".

Mobile login info should be in the email you received with your Diamond registration details (mobile companion is only with Diamond). It is under the heading [KVS Tool Mobile Companion Access]

At least that is how it was for me

No, unfortunately. You can't even compete with them. Even if there was a seat in business class available after all of them were cleared, if I class doesn't open up, you still can't use your points to upgrade.

Does I class ever open up in AC? I have been looking for weeks for CS+ on KVS for AC flights to and from Europe. Nada. Even AC flights that depart two days from now and that have 50% of the J class seats unoccupied still show no I class availability. Is the "Buy a Latitude fare and upgrade using Star Alliance" just blowing smoke as far as AC is concerned? Has anyone had success with this?

Yes, but very very rarely.

They don't even open up R class for god's sake!

Yes, you are right. The is no reason of buying Latitude fare with the hope of upgrading with points.

economyplusfan Jul 27, 2011 3:25 pm

This is an interesting "bias" against non-Aeroplan members. If I were an Aeroplan member with 6 AC eupgrades I could upgrade my whole September itinerary LHR-YOW-YYZ-DEN right now, as I have a Latitude fare and KVS is showing that R space is available on each leg. I wouldn't even need to be an elite member at the moment with AC; I would only need to have 6 eupgrades in the bank. But as a *A member, I am not allowed to upgrade using the stated 25,000 miles. Heck, I could be a UA GS or 1K, and it wouldn't help to make the award available. So the bottom line is that while Air Canada has joined into the *A upgrade network, it is still heavily protecting upgrades for its Aeroplan members against invaders from other programs.

Indeed, as a Diamond-tier KVS Tool member, your Mobile Companion credentials will be included in your welcome/renewal e-mail message.

KVS, thanks for pointing me to the MPM feature. I'm still not sure I'm reading the output quite right.

Example routing: CCU-BOM-LHR-MAD-DUB-ORD-AUS
Result:
[KVS Availability Tool 6.3.0.R2/Diamond - Reference: Maximum Permitted Mileage [MPM]: CCU-BOM-LHR-MAD-DUB-ORD-AUS/AA]
Code:

CTY  DC  TPM  CUM  MPM  DC SUR  HGL  LWL  25M  XTRA
CCU 3
BOM 3 EH  1035  1035
LON 2 EH  4469  5504  6576  EH  0M  1072    0  8220    0
MAD 2 EH  785  6289  6549  EH  0M  260    0  8186    0
DUB 2 EH  905  7194  6921  EH  5M    73  273  8651    0
CHI 1 AT  3666 10860 11176  AT  0M  316    0 13970    0
AUS 1 US  970 11830 12319  AT  0M  489    0 15398    0

BTW, this is a real example, because apparently there is no direct way to get from LHR to DUB on a oneworld award.

Question: I am concluding that the MPM from CCU to AUS is 12319 miles, and since my CUM miles are 11830, no surcharge is due. Is that correct?

Should I worry about the DUB line that shows CUM exceeding MPM by 5%. For the routing to be valid without surcharge, do only the origin and destination matter, or are the intermediate CUM and MPM important too?

Thanks!

Can't See Award Routing

Hi. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong. I'm searching for award availability from YYZ to SCL using the SNT method, and I'm getting a "No Results/Route too Complex" message. I can search routes to other cities and get results, even if there is no availability, and I can find this route on the general availability tab.

How many connections does it take to get from YYZ to SCL? The SNT method (based off of NH's award search) can't do too many connections. I think it maxes out at 2 connections, but it might be as low as 1. You can search going segment by segment if you know the connection cities you want.

Welcome to FT, danananan! The ANA tool (SNT Method) is good put its not that great for routes with lots of connections. For whatever reason it doesn't pick up the direct AC flight and all other ways for that routes are 3 segments which the ANA tool can't do. Just use the AC tool (ITA) and you will see available seats for that routing.
