So what is the graphical seat map option supposed to do? In most cases it is greyed out, but for CO flights it is selectable but does nothing

Also, is there any way to be able to display E+ seat availability on UA? They always show as "Unavailable"

The [GTC] Method issue is currently being looked into -- please use the [FS] Method in the meantime.

It is a False Positive. Please ignore their warning(s) until F-Secure makes the necessary updates to their databases:

I wish FS would support AA as ETR is a pain when GTC is not working
and Mobile does not pull up a lot of flights that are available.

Flight Not Showing

I am looking award availability for a particular KQ (Kenya) flight. I find the flight on their site, but it does not show up on KVS. Available or not, it doesn't show up at all on KVS. Likewise, Delta agents tell me it is "zero out" by Kenya.

Does the flight just fail to appear when there is no space, rather than just show "CX- YX-"?

That would certainly be nice. However, even now, you should be able to retrieve Availability for any desired AA flight using the KVS Tool Mobile Companion.

That is correct -- as mentioned at http://Help.KVSTool.com/#Method_Amadeus_Awards_SkyTeam:
"Only flights, which have award availability in at least one award booking class (for the requested number of seats), are shown."

Sorry, should have looked it up first. I just assumed the behavior was similar to other alliance award bookings I had made. Thanks!

Any way to get Mobile Companion to display more AA flights?
At most it will only display 6 flights (3 pairs) and leaves out many flights. Maybe allowing more time options, instead of two hour blocks, would help.

The Mobile Companion will currently display up to 9 flight options, so it should not be an issue (unless there are more than 9 flights on the specified carrier that depart during that 2-hour window).

GTC Down AGAIN

As of 1PM Saturday GTC (AA Access) is down AGAIN.

JIMCHI Oct 29, 2011 6:14 pm

Perhaps I missed something along the way, but the WSpan "track" feature is no longer available. This was, as far as I know, the only way to get good info about AA and BA flights, such as the reason for a delay or cancellation (ex. AA85 today). Is this feature gone for good?

We are currently looking for a solution. In the meantime, please continue to use [Sabre: FS] (and the Mobile Companion for AA flights) & monitor the KVS Tool Homepage for the latest updates.

We will be adding a Connecting Airport option to the Mobile Companion in the next release, which should take care of this.

In the meantime, please search segment-by-segment to get the maximum number of results (which should include your desired flights).

Thank you but I was trying to save few $$ in order to try your product before I jump to any semi-annual/annual subscription.

Thanks for the tool.

So far so good, most of it is self explanatory.

The only wall I've hit is, is it possible to search on a multicity fare?

IE YYZ-HAN but return SIN-YYZ? I notice that CX for example is cheaper on a full RT ticket compared to 2 o/w tickets.

Thanks again.

Is customer email service for KVS down today? I have contacted KVS today twice to get new registration codes for a new computer (and disable the registration codes in my other two that crashed) and I have yet to hear back. Is something going on? I have a Diamond membership and usually KVS customer service via email is pretty good.

Possibly in the Northeast? Lots of people without power and internet connections.

All of your 4 e-mails from today have been received and your new Registration Code has now been issued well ahead of the usual turn-around time of 24 hours.

As always, you also have an option of getting a new Temporary Code instantly by doing an online renewal.

Regretfully, the engine that was powering the [WSpan Operational Info] feature was permanently decommissioned.

However, this impacts AA only.

Operational Info for BA as well as AC/UA/US/LH/OS/SK/TP/LO/JK/BD/TK/SQ/NZ/NH/OZ/SA/KF/LX, QF/AY/IB/MA/LA/RJ, KL/AF/AM/KE/KQ/OK, FV/LY/FM continues to be available via the [Amadeus Operational Info] option:

Thanks for reporting the bug. The Graphical Seat Map option is currently available for AC/AA/DL/AF/AZ/AM/AS/VX/FL.

Not at the moment, but this may change, once the UA-CO website integration is complete.

IE YYZ-HAN but return SIN-YYZ? I notice that CX for example is cheaper on a full RT ticket compared to 2 o/w tickets.

I don't think it's possible to search for this automatically. However, you can work it out by looking at the fare-rules. The example you give is for an open-jaws ticket - and in particular, a single open-jaws (also destination open-jaws), as it's only 'open' at one end.

So, first you look up the fare rules for a return YYZ-HAN, and see what it says under 'combinations'. In many cases, it will say something like:
'Open Jaws/Round Trips/Circle Trips - Fares May Be Combined On A Half Round Trip Basis'

You then look up the fare rules for a return YYZ-SIN, and hopefully it will say something similar. If so, then a single open-jaws for that routing is possible - and the fare is calculated by adding half the YYZ-HAN return fare, and half the YYZ-SIN return fare. As you say, a return is often cheaper than two one-ways - and an open-jaws basically gives you the average of two return fares, and so will often also be cheaper than two one-ways.

You can also do departure open-jaws (when you return to a different airport from the one you flew out of) and double open-jaws (eg: AAA-BBB, and then CCC-DDD). However, although single open-jaws often seem to be possible, double open-jaws, or departure open-jaws (especially if returning to a different country) can be harder to find. There are often some restrictions imposed on open-jaws routings (eg: limiting the distance between the two 'open' points, or requiring them to be in the same area).

If you wanted to do, say, YYZ-HKG, HKG-HAN, SIN-YYZ, then that's a stopover in HKG (plus an open-jaws). Whether that is possible will depend on:
a) the routing rules (ie: is travel via HKG allowed), and:
b) the fare rules (ie: are stopovers allowed, and if so, are they free or do they require an additional fee)

I regularly travel on such tickets (although not on the routing or airline you suggested) so it's definitely possible. However, the biggest problem often seems to be that although open-jaws and stopovers are allowed, online booking sites (even the airline's own websites) struggle to book anything other than simple returns.

Thanks for an excellent post and explanation, KQ321!

Fares only come in 3 types: Round-Trip, One-Way and Special Circle (RTW), and the KVS Tool supports all of them.

All other types of trips need to be constructed using a combination of the above Fares, subject to any applicable restrictions in the Combinations section of the Fare Rules.

Welcome to the KVS Tool!

Temporary Registration Codes are issued instantly, so if you don't see it in your e-mail Inbox within a few minutes, be sure to check your Junk folder.

Thanks - checked my spam but nothing there either. Just had the 'confirmation' and 'your order' emails, neither of which had the code in them. However had filled out the contact form on the site and have now been emailed the temporary code and got it working :)
