An app made for iPad is an app like no other. That’s because apps for iPad are designed specifically to take advantage of all the technology built into iPad.

Anyone know of an iphone app similar to this:
http://isource.com/2008/05/13/intell...n-lock-screen/ That doesnt require a jailbreak? As someone coming from a bb, i really miss not having my events and emails on the home screen. |
If you use Gmail, you can get your emails on screen using the Gmail app.

The Mail app can display any emails on your lock screen. Just turn the "View in Lock Screen" setting on in Settings>Notifications>Mail.

For those wanting to try My Flights, there's now a free version out...
Remember it's for Amadeus bookings, but I'm also working on TripIt integration for the next release |

Does it sync to the Gmail server so the mail pops up instantly on your lock screen and vibrate/make a sound?

If you set it up with Google Sync, yes. Plain IMAP doesn't push (you'll get the emails every 15 minutes). Google Sync also syncs to your Google Calendar and Google Contacts.

Remind me to scowl at you if we ever meet. This game is taking up far too much of my time. ;)
I don't like how you can't fly eastward from West Coast USA to Asia. |

OK, but if all you want to do is sync your Gmail, you don't need to bother with the hassle of Google Sync. You just install the Gmail app. Right?
I personally find the Gmail app too slow to load. With the Mail app, your emails are waiting there for you to read even if you are offline. The Gmail app won't actually load your messages for reading until you open it, which takes several seconds and is impossible to do when out of range of wifi and data. Mail.app is also a quicker-to-respond interface (albeit less full-featured) when reading and typing replies and all that. |

You know they aren't mutually exclusive. You can use both as it suits you. And the Gmail app doesn't seem slow on a 4s. What platform are you using?
It took 4 seconds from the time I tapped on the notification to the time the message was readable in the Gmail app (the app took 2 seconds to open and another 2 seconds of network activity to download the message). The same message was available within 1.5 seconds when tapping the Mail notification, since it had already downloaded before the app was opened. Every second added makes it feel slower. :) |
