GasBuddy

Free app that tells you the price at various gas stations around you.

How about a totally mindless app?

Jiggle by Jello. A cube of jello syncs up with music you select and dances/jiggles around.

It's free, and was good for a smile or two when I first saw it. It's not something I would open on a regular basis - or even more than the few times I already did, but it is kinda cute :)

Here's a cool new packing list app:

Asphalt 6 for iPad by Gameloft is now on sale for $0.99.
They say the graphics are enhanced for the 2nd gen iPad and indeed the gameplay is awesome.

Google translate is great if you find yourself at a loss for words in a foreign country. I also really like Hopstop when using the subway. And I'm a Yelp fan when it comes to recommendations for restaurants and other services.

R.I.P. WiFiTrak. A Wi-Fi Scanner Application

Sad news about one of my favorite iPhone apps: WiFiTrak. According to the developer, it won't work under iOS5.

This is a scanner app, one that lets you find open wi-fi networks when traveling. If you are wandering around a strange city, wishing you could check your email without using the expensive 3G networks, WiFiTrak is (was) the answer. Whenever it detected a connectable network it would play the sound of a bell.

It was free from iTunes when I got it, but then Apple decided that it was inappropriate and removed it from the iTunes store. It has worked up through the most recent version of the iPhone operating system.

It looks Apple is finally killing WiFiTrak for anyone who wants the features of iOS5.

:( :( :( :(

I use wifitrack all the time. I'm about to finally upgrade my 2nd gen touch and this will be a big loss.

Is there anything else out there?

I use and enjoy WiFi Analyzer from the Cydia store. But I am in no rush to upgrade to IOS 5. Not sure if it will continue to work or not.

WiFiFoFum works well. I have a free version via Cydia.

Thanks!

But isn't Cydia for unlocked devices? [I never really looked into it]

No, Cydia is for jailbroken devices and jailbroken != unlocked.

Especially if she is talking about a Touch! I cannot think of single reason why you would not jailbreak a Touch. You bought it, it is your computer, so why not use it?

Does it work on IOS 5? I don't see where that is noted. The site looks very old.

Actually, I meant to type out Jailbroken, but I had been reading a thread about unlocked phones, and it just stuck :)

I never really had the need to look into jailbreaking my Touch. Perhaps now there is.

Thanks.
