Can we get Randy and his crew to promote us? I think if we did this, perhaps we would have so many FlyerTalkers that don't realize they can contribute while not even doing anything.

Does anyone know the management and the administrators of FlyerTalk that might be able to help the whole team? I hate to switch teams, for I feel not only are we doing a great cause, but we are a special community making a difference.

I just did my bit for helping us reach that 1% mark. But it will take a little while for the benefits to kick in - just a few machines I found sitting idle most of the day, from PIII/800MHz up to P4/2.4GHz. But I don't it will be enough to catch SteveinSTL, Birdstrike, WinkyDink, or SNA_Flyer any time soon. But I may claim 5th spot back from persussionking in the next week or two.

Cheers, FT_User

We did get a mention in the 1/28 TalkMail mailing. That resulted in a number of people joining the team.

It would be great to get a blurb in InsideFlyer. Perhaps we could craft an article for submission to an upcoming issue? I'll see if I can find out what the guidelines are, if I can find this months copy somewhere.

It seems some of the new PC's I found have started reporting back. Jumped pretty quickly back into 5th spot  . So only 10,000 points to catch SNA_Flyer now :D . Maybe I do have enough systems folding to get me back towards the top of the list - who said FT-ers are not competative. Its just a good thing that its all for a worthy cause ^ .

Competitive? Me? No sir. *cough*still has most work units*cough**cough*

:)

My biggest problem is I need to go back and write an rc script for all the Linux boxes so they restart automatically, especially the ones used for development that get "bounced" frequently.

But the true measure of a good folder is the average points/WU rather than the raw number of WU's :p . I am at an average 169 points/WU, down slightly from my peak of 180.

My new addition machines are also quite variable. Most are old PIII/800MHz so they take some time to crunch, while there are a few faster P4/2.4GHz systems that get through them a little faster. They are on a lab network and hence internet access to send and recieve WU's is variable.

SNA_Flyer Mar 18, 2005 11:47 am

I'm fortunate to have quite a few systems here at the office which are no longer being used for a variety of reasons. The majority of them are P3 1ghz machines, several of them dual processor boxes. I don't know how much longer I'll be able to keep this up for, as I believe the company will be shutting down or be sold in a few months.

Keeping my fingers crossed! ;)

Hey SNA_Flyer, you certainly are maintaining your lead on me. I thought my boost of systems might help me to catch up to the top 4 FT Folders, but all I am doing now is keeping pace with you all.

I hope the pending closure is not going to affect you personally.

SNA_Flyer Mar 19, 2005 12:13 am

Thanks for the thoughts! In anticipation of this, I've already been working some new prospects. I'm expecting a smooth transition into a new job within a month or so. ;)

In the mean time, I'm plundering the resources to advance our team! :p

And advance them you are... wow, what a day for several people ^ ^ ....but not me... See we keep adding members. Anyone new want to identify themselves? I've lost track - a good problem - of many FT'rs. A less than good problem is that our benefactor Scott C seems to have stopped folding, along with Randy. too many trips away from home? ;)

The top 1%

As I type this, we are currently #369 of 36999 teams. We made it into the top 1%

Excellent job everybody!

NM Mar 20, 2005 11:36 pm

And now 367 of 37001, so we are still pushing up the list. Next goal is to make the top 300, then 200, then 100! Now that will need some more serious folders to join us!

Also looks like I am starting to make some impact on the top four Flyer Talk folders. But at the current rate its going to a take a few weeks to catch any of you.

birdstrike Mar 21, 2005 9:21 am

Top 1%!

Very cool :D

I just discovered one of my headless folders had hung. Don't know how long it was dead, but all four are chugging along again...

Maybe not! You have bumped up nicely! Very impressive! I just might have to scavange some more machines now!
