Just joined as Mike. Only one computer, but every little bit helps. If we could get this over to Omni, perhaps we could expand team faster.

It would be huge for the team effort if you could get the clusters online. I don't have any experience with setting those up, but played with the idea at one point and found some great discussions just through Google.

A couple that I bookmarked way back when:

http://overclockix.octeams.com/ and the support forum for it. - Based on Knoppix but tailored for folding.
http://dnaresearch.com.au/gahnix.shtml - A small compact Linux distribution based on Trinux, for disk-less network booting nodes.
http://www.extremeoverclocking.com/a...ss_Farm_1.html --Building A Diskless Folding @ Home Farm - Article on setting up a diskless folding cluster.

Hope that provides a start. TJ

Sorry, Ive been pretty busy and havent had a chance to do it yet. I just got the new desktop I mentioned in my previous post 2 days ago. It took a long time for our IT guys to get it set up since it was an unusual configuration. It is a pretty fast machine I will work with getting it on first and then take a look at the clusters. I have a couple others I can do as well, although I tried to get my old office desktop on and it wouldnt work for some reason. It was just a Win2000 box so Im a bit mystified by that. Im travelling a lot in the next 2 weeks (LGA-STL-LGA, NYP-WAS-NYP, LGA-IAD-PEK-IAD-LGA) but will try to get at least some additional processors going.

I had forgotten about this. Just downloaded and installed the application on my laptop.

MapleLeaf is back on the team :)

Folding @ Home. Short version: Stanford U has a program that runs in the background on a PC or Mac that uses available processer time to work on complex protein formulas, hoping to develop new pharmaceuticals or understand other medical issues & diseases. When I checked into it and saw the combined names of Stanford & Google, that gave it a pretty big level of credibility for me! Not spyware or anything, just a good cause it seems. ^

The Flyertalk team is team 39124 and we are in 150th place! Not bad out of over 70,000 teams but we can do better. Only 92 of us are on the team.

Join now. Let's move FT into the top 100!

I posted something on Omni at http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=704986. It gets a lot of traffic if kept active and expands our source of team members.

Keep the thread alive by posting something there from time to time. Its readership is so much more than ours here. Of the 42 views, looks like we got one new team member already.

Kind of weak - the SMP version is only spawning 4 threads. Not enough to take full advantage of a dual quad-core box.

Thanks for the OMNI posting -- I had Folding on my old computer and forgot to download again on my new Thinkpad

Plato -- you are flying up the list -- what the heck are you running FAH on?

GadgetFreak Jun 27, 2007 6:18 pm

Well I think I have the SMP linux version running on my new Linux desktop machine. Now for that server.....

Yes, mine is doing that too. I have a and 8 dual core machine I would like to try to get it running on but it doesnt seem like it will make complete use of it.

I work at a place with lots of spare hardware waiting on analysts to start the project. So what you're seeing is about a dozen Dell 2950's pounding away plus a couple of older Dell 2850's.

Unfortunately, I'll have to bow out at this point as our IDS (intrusion detection system) has decided F@H isn't a friendly app and it's blocking me from sending the results.

Good folding to all of you guys....

I just upped my 3Ghz system to 3GB RAM. We'll see if that makes a difference.

GadgetFreak Jul 2, 2007 8:36 am

My Dell desktop is doing about 1 WU per day with the Linux SMP client. I need to get some other processors working. Some seem to have stopped and I cant figure out what the hell is going on with them.
