Speediness? No, can't say I'm getting that but there aren't timeouts for the moment either.

Thanks for the update.

JohnMcG Aug 21, 2008 7:34 pm

The team is still working on it, and we'll get everyone more updates as we have them. Thanks for everyone's patience on this!

A quick status report.

Around 5:00 CDT this morning, I ran into a slow system for about 15 second when submitting a reply. Not a timeout but thought you guys should know.

Edit to add:
The timeout or slowness that I reported recently would only last for a few minutes, different from those who had the problem for hours. I noticed that based on the timestamp, I didn't run into slowness problem while others were reporting with crawling difficulty. On the other hand, when I try to search for "My post" or others' posts, the system sometimes will have a slow response. That has been the constant in the last two weeks or so.

Not sure if it has anything to do with the (different) FT servers. I am "FTing" from Central Texas.

lin821 Aug 22, 2008 8:27 am

Slow again, starting two minutes ago (at 9:25 CDT, both browsing and replying to a thread).

ETA: but this post went through without any delay.

goalie Aug 22, 2008 10:18 am

crawling at 9:17am pst :(

Seems like the norm now (crawling, that is).

coachrowsey Aug 22, 2008 10:22 am

Crawling now approx 1224 EDT

cblaisd Aug 22, 2008 3:51 pm

Just awful, awful for the last five hours.

coachrowsey Aug 22, 2008 3:53 pm

Snails pace still here.

JohnMcG Aug 23, 2008 3:18 pm

Our tech team is definitely working on this. We apologize for it taking awhile to fix, but they are working through the issues involved. Thanks again for everyone's patience during this.

coachrowsey Aug 23, 2008 3:20 pm

John:
You've been working along time haven't you?

GoingAway Aug 23, 2008 3:41 pm

Saturday afternoon - has to be a light load but the system just slowed down considerably a few minutes ago :(

coachrowsey Aug 23, 2008 3:52 pm

Very sad. I love FT but right now it is sooooooo slow I think I'll call it a night & go else where.

cblaisd Aug 26, 2008 11:55 am

Back to its old tricks. Speedy one click, the next one simply hangs forever. There are about three of the latter for every one of the former.

Jaimito Cartero Aug 26, 2008 11:56 am

Super slow. Database errors. Fun, fun, fun!

Although it's probably not an explicit part of the moderator role, it is very comforting to have several mods - and a senior mod with Mr. Petersen's ear - advocating for us. Thank you all.

FWIW: Everytime this issue boils up, I also find myself in the mode of getting my email notifications of new posts held up, and then bunching when they come through. I received a bunch very early this morning that relate to posts throughout the day yesterday. Don't know if it's coincidental, but there appears to be a pattern at my end.

Again, thanks all -- including the medics. :)

Also, this morning as I look at threads I've contributed to, I haven't received notice of many comments.

Ditto.

num1bearsfan Aug 26, 2008 1:32 pm

Super super super slow right now. And to make matters worse, I have this PM message that WONT GO AWAY. Even after reading it, it still comes up unread and causes a pop up every time I change pages. I refuses to delete as well..

Something really odd is going on with the site right now I suspect..

magiciansampras Aug 26, 2008 1:34 pm

Slow. Very slow.

magiciansampras Aug 26, 2008 1:38 pm

Wirelessly posted (Blackberry: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0; Google Wireless Transcoder;))

The mobile version (mobile.flyertalk.com) seems to be ok at the moment..

oliver2002 Aug 26, 2008 1:47 pm

slllllllllloooooooooooooowwwwwwww!

dd992emo Aug 26, 2008 1:51 pm

If it doesn't get fixed soon I'm going to have to perform some actual work...

FlyingOnceMore Aug 26, 2008 1:56 pm

Clicking 'New Posts' shows last post as 75 minutes ago. Thread headers in forums not updating with latest posts either; though if you click on the thread, they are there.

SanDiego1K Aug 26, 2008 2:00 pm

As another poster mentioned, PMs are popping up each and every single time I click on a thread. It doesn't matter if I try to delete the PMs. It's incredibly frustrating, and makes using the site nearly impossible.

Do I remember that this particular problem was an indexing problem?

uncertaintraveler Aug 26, 2008 2:03 pm

Exceptionally slow.

And has OMNI been shut down? There haven't been any new posts in there for hours, and there are allegedly no current active users there.

ETA: Fascinating...about 15 of the posts above mine weren't visible until I posted a reply, yet...according to time stamp...the posts were clearly posted before my post was.

Jenbel Aug 26, 2008 2:05 pm

Slow, new posts aren't registering and PMs are vanishing into the abysss....

JOUY31 Aug 26, 2008 2:05 pm

Barely usable with a lot of patience ... sigh

notsosmart Aug 26, 2008 2:42 pm

Still pooped.

Kiwi Flyer Aug 26, 2008 3:08 pm

Seems to be an indexing problem. New posts not appearing. All threads marked as read. Sloooow.

Global_Hi_Flyer Aug 26, 2008 3:22 pm

All threads show an old time stamp, even if they have newer posts. And very. very slow....

cheepneezy Aug 26, 2008 3:26 pm

uncertaintraveler Aug 26, 2008 3:31 pm

Back up and running for me. ^

num1bearsfan Aug 26, 2008 3:52 pm

everything seems to be back to normal.^

Kiwi Flyer Aug 26, 2008 8:05 pm

slooow again

Stormybot Aug 27, 2008 10:19 am

Hey everyone. About yesterday, the site was very slow because it was being bombarded with traffic all of a sudden. We checked to see if it was an attack or something, but it was real traffic. We were getting 1,000's of MySQL requests a second. Something must have drawn that much traffic to the site. There was really nothing we could do because any fix would be a requirement to throw more hardware at the site. While we are now looking into our options for this, it was not something we could immediately do yesterday.

Things seem to have gotten back to normal today though.

I tried to post this yesterday, but with all of the traffic, I could not even get on.

Dovster Aug 27, 2008 10:26 am

I hate to sound stupid, but what is a "MySQL"?

It's evidently Geek Speak. I looked at the site and I still don't understand it. :o

Firewind Aug 27, 2008 11:08 am

Thank you

Stormybot, I know my IT people hate to put out messages like yours, preferring to just fix things, and then answer on a case basis, "It's fixed; don't worry about it," but messages like yours go a long way to comfort. This is to thank you, and to encourage more!

ADDED:This may help other geek-challenged, like myself:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MySQL

Not a big fan of wikipedia in a lot of areas, but this may do here...

ScottC Aug 27, 2008 6:26 pm

The site is messed up AGAIN... Topics are not updating, thread listings are not updating etc...
