I'm finally giving up for today. Most of the time when I click on new forums or threads, I get a blank page.

PCTraveler Sep 21, 2006 6:32 pm

Has FT been really slow for anyone else?

Seems to take a minute or so for each page to load the last couple days.

FlyinHawaiian Sep 21, 2006 6:35 pm

Yes, they have been having server problems.

Been absolutely perfect for me in past week at all timesof day and night. However another FT member on east coast USA said he simply could not open the links I was sending him yesterday. Nothing at all.

So seems to be area specific at times?

I'll move this to FlyerTalk's Technical Issues forum for any further discussion with a note that our FlyerTalk admins have posted an announcement of server work today and tomorrow. Ocn Vw 1K, Co-Mod, CommunityBuzz

web1, which was always the fastest for me here in the UK (ever since I discovered the different server names that I could use), has been running very quickly indeed since the tune up overnight.

Many thanks!

holtju2 Sep 22, 2006 2:51 pm

It seems that FT is catching the United.bomb bug. The site has been extremely slow/inaccessible for the past two hours or so. Randy must have been thinking that Mr. holtju2 must get some work done rather than browsing on FT. ;)

Edited to add that is there something wrong with the FT's Firefox compatibility? The pages seem to come OK on IE.

Taiwaned Sep 24, 2006 3:35 am

Sunday 2:35 am

server is unusually slow and also kicks me out a few times. Are you still having server problems?

slippahs Sep 24, 2006 4:54 am

It is intermittently slow here. Much faster now than a few hours ago, perhaps since most of the country's asleep. :)

FlyinHawaiian Sep 24, 2006 5:38 pm

Main site, Web1, and Web2 seem to be down right now - not viewable at all. Web3 is up for now.

karenkay Sep 24, 2006 6:42 pm

thank goodness for web3 ^
i'm having the same problems...

nsr Sep 24, 2006 6:53 pm

this becomes so slow... hope it will be fixed in the next couple of hours

skye1 Sep 24, 2006 8:51 pm

Hit and miss this evening....sometimes REALLY, REALLY slow, sometimes all right. It has been slow a lot in the last few days, but previous posts seem to explain that.

Traveller Sep 24, 2006 9:57 pm

I just noticed that FT has been awfully slow since it was down for maintenance.

NickW Sep 25, 2006 3:42 am

Currently, a disaster. Some pages never loading at all for me.

SchmutzigMSP Sep 25, 2006 5:37 am

FT wouldn't even load last night in LAS (airport wireless). Currently v e r y s l o w at MKE (WorldClub).

magiciansampras Sep 25, 2006 7:06 am

Been awfully slow since the maintenance.. can we go back to what we had before?

LRD Sep 25, 2006 7:16 am

As others have posted, just use web3 and move on.

Traveller Sep 25, 2006 9:03 pm

Dumb question, but what is web3 and how do I use it? Thanks. :)

Kiwi Flyer Sep 25, 2006 9:12 pm

Put http://web3.flyertalk.com in your browser (ie replace www with web3)

ozstamps Sep 27, 2006 7:21 pm

Even slower for me using web3 prefix. :)

Been crawling now for days here.

haole Sep 27, 2006 7:47 pm

Hit&Miss

hit &miss today, sometimes fast, mostly slow.

rdraper Sep 27, 2006 8:10 pm

I've also had pretty poor performance since the outage a week or so ago.

After reading this thread, I have tried web3 and it does appear to solve the problem, but I've "suffered" for days.

How about posting a general notice on the main page to communicate how to work around the problem until it is fixed?

magiciansampras Sep 29, 2006 8:09 am

Very very slow for me, on web3 and otherwise.

Any ideas on what is going on?

Just a WAG but this thread is getting over 1,000 views per hour due to national exposure from CNN and AP News. And yesterday FT set an all time record with 4,400+ members or visitors online at the same time.
Not sure if one thread can slow down FT but the one above is getting some very heavy traffic.

As well as the folks at slashdot, they hit hard. ;) Joshua has made some settings adjustments that should help the speed of the forums. Thanks,

stimpy Sep 29, 2006 11:43 am

Thanks for all your help trying to deal with the huge load today. It would be a shame if some of the new people coming to Flyertalk left because they kept getting those database errors.

allset2travel Sep 29, 2006 11:46 am

Not only slow...

Yesterday and tooday, I experienced soemthing to the effect.."server not available, try again later" message. When finally got connected, the search function tend not to work. Too much traffic? or server down?

Molasses slow.

At least they aren't coming and saying "Where are my cheap fares???" ;)

FlyinHawaiian Oct 4, 2006 8:40 pm

Looks like Web1 and Web2 are down, Wed evening, about 7:40 PST. Web3 and 4 are up.

Must depend on where you're located.

Web1 And Web2 are super speedy in Southern CA tonight.

Globaliser Nov 7, 2006 3:25 am

At the moment, web1 is down (at least for the UK). I had problems with it yesterday as well.

I'm using web3, with no problems.

Web1 is permanently down, Joshua brought it down yesterday afternoon. The best way to avoid conflicts like this is to use the generic www.flyertalk.com url rather than any particular server such as web3 or web4. Thanks,

Globaliser Nov 7, 2006 9:17 am

Thanks for the information.

However, I think that many of us use the specific servers because doing that produces faster responses than using the generic URL. It would be easier to use the generic URL if we could be assured that that will always be at least as fast as using any specific server, but that's not been my experience.

karenkay Nov 8, 2006 7:51 am

i'm using web3 right now because my usual (www.flyertalk.com) is s-l-o-w...anyone else having trouble?

SanDiego1K Nov 8, 2006 8:03 am

Painfully slow - and I've now moved to web3 as karenkay has suggested, where I'm getting good performance.

Globaliser Nov 8, 2006 8:13 am

www was blisteringly fast this morning (London time) - about 6 or so hours ago - and so I was being good, as Tim asked. But it slowed right down a little later.

So now I've moved back to web3, for the same reasons.

Mary2e Nov 8, 2006 8:19 am

I went through all the servers, finally getting to web3 and being able to get in.

Tim at WebFlyer Nov 8, 2006 10:39 am

We are currently having some trouble with web4 and Joshua is working on it. Thanks,

Kiwi Flyer Nov 8, 2006 2:10 pm

www not working at all for me - web3 okay
