Molasses

Ever since the "dancing marriott rewards" ads started appearing -- floating out across to cover half the screen on every page loaded! -- Flyertalk has become slow as molasses. Argggggh

cblaisd Sep 21, 2005 12:59 am

http://web2.flyertalk.com/ seems to be usable, but the graphics are very slow.

Good point! It seems to be working fine, while some images and .js files on www.flyertalk.com are taking over 5.5 minutes to load.

Kibison Sep 21, 2005 3:30 am

"New Posts" hasn't worked all day for me. Every other link requires double or triple clicking.

Yes, it is web1 which seems to be the slow one ATM.

RSSrsvp Sep 21, 2005 7:51 am

I am crawling on FT this morning. :(

I was too until I switched over to http://web2.flyertalk.com link that was posted. That one works fine.

Thanks for the URL - it's working well for me now.

CApreppie Sep 21, 2005 11:18 am

Sometimes it's quick and sometime it really hangs lately.

cblaisd Sep 21, 2005 12:12 pm

Hopefully the FT tech staff will let us know what is or was wrong.

Kiwi Flyer Sep 21, 2005 2:00 pm

Jenbel Sep 21, 2005 2:35 pm

Rob's yesterday is also yesterday for many of us.

Working a lot faster for me now too. ^

tvl4free Sep 29, 2005 6:23 am

I just bought Flyertalk Premium. FT is sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much faster loading now.

So how much faster does this option speed things up, techies?

To tell you the truth I don't know how much faster Premium is. You definitely avoid waiting on data from the ad servers which probably bumps the speed at least a little.

We're glad that you're happy with it. :)

FightingIlliniUAL Oct 8, 2005 1:46 pm

So slow!

Anyone else having a problem today?

airbus320 Oct 8, 2005 2:04 pm

I am having same problem. Thanks for posting. I was wondering if the problem was at my end.

Kiwi Flyer Oct 8, 2005 2:06 pm

Yes very slow for me too.

cblaisd Oct 8, 2005 3:11 pm

ditto here.

airbus320 Oct 8, 2005 3:12 pm

It has improved now.

stratofortress Oct 8, 2005 3:22 pm

still slow here.

SanDiego1K Oct 8, 2005 3:41 pm

It was dead slow for me - and has suddenly picked up speed. ^^

The _Banking_Scot Oct 8, 2005 3:47 pm

Hi,

Very slow a few hours ago - now seems to be close to normal speed.

Regards

TBS

Randy Petersen Oct 8, 2005 4:56 pm

Sorry, I think it might have been someone using our PM system to spam campaign stuff. I sensed it was slow as well but now seems to be quite speedy. Kind of like the legislators in the States have free franking privileges and they think they can send out their Christmas card list for free at taxpayers expense. Full speed ahead.

FewMiles Oct 8, 2005 5:13 pm

Seems fine to me. Thanks, Randy!

FewMiles..

cblaisd Oct 8, 2005 7:55 pm

Yup. Fast again here too.

FightingIlliniUAL Oct 8, 2005 9:48 pm

Back to normal, thanks everyone.

golfteam Oct 13, 2005 10:44 am

Very slow today. What's up?

cblaisd Oct 13, 2005 5:25 pm

Still much slower than usual, even on FT Premium.

golfteam Oct 13, 2005 8:23 pm

And now.....running fine.

Traveller Oct 22, 2005 10:56 am

Running slow today, the first time in months I've noticed.

I think all that TalkBoard voting is slowing things down today. ;)
Switch over to http://web2.flyertalk.com. That ones running fine.

Jenbel Oct 22, 2005 11:08 am

thanks cholula, one of these days I must bookmark that one as well ;)

it's been horrible this afternoon :(

SEA_Tigger Oct 22, 2005 12:48 pm

No speed issues for me here in IAD, but after about 5-10 mins it looses DNS and IP connectivity. Have to close the browser, wait a minute or two, then re-launch where it works fine for 5-10 mins then crashes again.

Will try the web2 address and see if that helps.

cblaisd Oct 22, 2005 1:15 pm

Same here.

The other address works ok though.

Thanks Cholula, it works great from that address.

SEA_Tigger Oct 22, 2005 3:33 pm

Looks like the web2 address is the only one working right now, but I imagine all the traffic is now on that server so performance is suffering (but the site is working).

cblaisd Oct 22, 2005 3:50 pm

Again, same experience here.

But I assume (maybe the tech staff can confirm) that when a server goes down they get a page so they can fix it.

Hopefully that will be soon.

GUWonder Oct 22, 2005 4:02 pm

It was so very slow for a while. Now it seems to have sped up. Hope the return in speed is not just temporary.
