Jaimito Cartero Dec 22, 2005 2:01 pm

I've had the problems most of this week. Ack!

FlyinHawaiian Dec 22, 2005 2:43 pm

Looks like it's back to normal now...

Thanks!

ayamaguc Dec 22, 2005 4:36 pm

Thanks for the tip on web1/web2.. definitely is FT and not the my provider or the Internet at large...

FlyinHawaiian Jan 7, 2006 5:31 pm

the main site and web1 seem to be a little slow at times today - long waits loading the main page. web2 is very fast right now.

SEA_Tigger Jan 7, 2006 7:02 pm

Usually when this happens (www.flyertalk.com is down and web2.flyertalk.com works but doesn't load graphics) usually means web1.flyertalk.com has gone offline. The tech team should have it back up by Monday. Till then, just use web2.

Are you sure that "fast" is the most appropriately descriptive term here? ;)

Well what would YOU use to describe it? If web2 is fast, why wouldn't YOU call it "fast"? I honestly don't understand your post.

I can't get past the log in screen on this site...

The other is still malfunctioning, but it is malfunctioning very fast. :D

Mateo4321 Jan 8, 2006 5:51 pm

Same for me too:

use

web2.flyertalk.com

Fast like always :D

Interesting. I just had no problems surfing throughout the site via that IP.

doc Jan 8, 2006 8:56 pm

Still notably slow for me, using web2, seemingly even more so than before.

WearyBizTrvlr Jan 9, 2006 12:03 am

Very, very slow for me too. I'm using 64.78.185.92 to access the site, as www.flyertalk.com (at .85) is not even pingable. I'd estimate it's running at a tenth of the usual speed, and even then pageloads fail at times. I also need to log in every few clicks.

magiciansampras Jan 9, 2006 7:43 am

Seems a little better now..

magiciansampras Jan 19, 2006 9:10 am

slow, or just me?

About 11:09am here on the East Coast and FT seems to be quite slow. Anyone else having trouble?

magiciansampras Jan 19, 2006 9:38 am

Seems faster now. Maybe momentary glitch on my end.

cblaisd Feb 24, 2006 4:53 pm

Trying to discover if it's on my end or FT's..... Anyone else having problems with FT being intermittently very slow?

Other sites seem fine for me.

cpx Feb 24, 2006 4:57 pm

approximately around 5 PM Eastern I've noticed it was very slow. A friend about 300 miles away noticed the same thing. I guess its FT

linsj Feb 24, 2006 4:58 pm

I had the same problem this afternoon.

SanDiego1K Feb 27, 2006 6:33 pm

FT has been intermittently crawling all afternoon.

cblaisd Feb 27, 2006 6:43 pm

Here too

LRD Feb 27, 2006 6:47 pm

The "web1" URL seems to be working fairly well.

FlyingToFly Feb 27, 2006 9:21 pm

"web2" is not working for me.

Heck I've just bought a Pentium D twin core chip system and for the week I have had it FT flies .. but nottttttttttt today.

Just as you experience - intermittently slowwwwwww. :td:

cblaisd Feb 28, 2006 2:03 am

It's been getting slower and slower. Now neither the regular url nor web2 work. Only web1

cblaisd Feb 28, 2006 2:31 am

web1 is now slowly stopping loading graphics.

Pyeinthesky Feb 28, 2006 3:04 am

I can only get in at all by using this IP address; 64.78.185.85

Have tried two ISPs so it does not appear to be an ISP specific DNS problem.

jabez Feb 28, 2006 4:29 am

Still very slow. As slow as I've seen it in ages.

GUWonder Feb 28, 2006 8:24 am

It seems to have returned to more normal speed for me, but a prior post of mine either disappeared or never got posted or I was half-exhausted and viewing it in "Preview Post" mode instead of submitting it.

Pyeinthesky Feb 28, 2006 9:02 am

Seems OK to me too now going in via the normal URL

CApreppie Feb 28, 2006 7:40 pm

Its so slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Randy Petersen Mar 2, 2006 8:02 am

The problem occurred when a member tried to search for the term "miles" on FlyerTalk. With nearly 5.5 million posts on this board, you can imagine the shear number of pages it was trying to load at once per this search request. Actually as it turned out, several members were doing the same. While we're not sure why anyone would search for such a generic term on this board, it nonetheless wrecked some havoc. We've discovered the reasons it happened and have now written in additional filters to try and alleviate similar things in the future. Most techies will tell you that open searches such as this are the real bane of a bulletin board.

Hopefully members will use the search function is a more logical way to find information, that or simply flag down a volunteer moderator for help.

WOW.... hope the person found what they wanted with a search that detailed.... :D

clover Mar 2, 2006 1:42 pm

Wow. Hard to understand what anyone searching for "miles" was trying to find. You indicate that several were trying the same thing. It almost sounds like a concerted effort to make the site crash.

That said, as of 12:30 p.m. PST today the site has been verrrry slow whenever I've tried to access it.

FourWheels Mar 2, 2006 2:19 pm

Last night everything was fine, normal. Today... let's just say it took a r-e-a-l-l-y l-o-o-o-o-n-g time to get here and post this. Anyone else?

linsj Mar 2, 2006 2:46 pm

I'm having trouble right now, 3:30-3:45 EST. Pages aren't loading; just get blank pages.

magiciansampras Mar 2, 2006 2:54 pm

Everyone stop searching for things like "miles" and "the"!!

:)
