Glad to know its not just me ... its been happening intermittently for most of the afternoon/early evening

FWAAA Jan 26, 2005 5:46 pm

It's been painfully slow all day today.

Numerous times a blank page loads with just the blue line and the tabs at the top of the screen. A minute or two later, I give up and close the window.

PremEx Jan 26, 2005 5:53 pm

Still stall/run/stall/run out here too.

Same here.

Rar.

FlyinHawaiian Jan 26, 2005 10:09 pm

Today, I've been noticing some delays in loading pages where the top banner ad and FT toolbar will load and then there's a 10-15 second delay (or longer) and then the skyscraper ad on the right and the rest of the page will populate. I thought it was mostly with the USAir ads, but there were other times as well.

I hope this helps.

PUCCI GALORE Jan 27, 2005 2:28 am

I would add my voice to the others. I have noticed this all over the world at all sorts of locations. I noticed this just before Christmas, but it really is mcuh worse now. I often get notices saying that it could not find the page or ages to load or to accept posts. In fact it had got so bad that I was actually posting from cut and paste having prepared the text in a word document that could be saved.

I remember Merry using the expression "stable" about Flyertalk and that is what seems to have gone west of late.

I am relieved not to be alone in this as I had noticed that no one on the BA Forum had commented on this.

JRF Jan 27, 2005 9:03 am

I just had a first time ever error message in IE. The top US Air add loaded and I was waiting for the rest of the page to load. I hit refresh and no luck. I then tried to exit and a warning box with close or cancel poped up... it said,

"Warning, the window is trying to communicate with a.tribalfusion.com and closing the window may cause damage to your cookies."

I guess this is a new warning window in XPII as I have never seen or heard of anything like this. I did exit the window. It looks like we are back to tribalfusion problems and an add gone bad.... just my guess.

drtravix Jan 27, 2005 11:58 am

Maybe a pool of users could test-drive an ad-less FT to see if the problems go away? I'll volunteer. @:-) :p

jcooke Jan 28, 2005 4:55 am

It is REALLY bad right now. We're talking 5 minute delays as of right now. Verified with another person as well.

jcooke Jan 28, 2005 5:20 am

Fast once again.

PG Jan 28, 2005 1:12 pm

Really slow this afternoon.

Kiwi Flyer Jan 28, 2005 8:21 pm

Intermittently hanging for me today :(

JRF Jan 30, 2005 7:26 am

While all seems to be okay now, is there any word from anyone at FT about this?

ozstamps Jan 31, 2005 2:32 am

I have been travelling for 10 days solid and no access til now.

For past few hours it is slower than it was before I left. Like Pucci I have lost a lot of typed posts.

"Hangs" a long time before any page opens.

Oz, this is my biggest complaint regarding the slowness of FT. I have lost countless typed posts because of it. As of late, I have copied every post prior to submitting it so that I don't have to start all over again. It is a royal pain.

RSSrsvp Jan 31, 2005 11:06 am

Can the number of threads that we automatically subscribe to have anything to do with this? I have "instant notification" as my default setting in "My Flyertalk". This morning I deleted more pages of subscribed threads than I could have ever dreamed I was signed up for. Some of them are going back many months. I can only imagine that most of us have it setup to notify us instantly whenever a post is made to a thread that we have started or posted to. Perhaps this is also putting a load on the servers?

Tennisbum Jan 31, 2005 11:24 am

For me the slowdowns seem to occur mainly between noon and 2pm, and 3 and 4pm ET. I've been assuming these are heavy traffic times as the West Coast gets to work, lunch.

kcvt750 Feb 1, 2005 12:48 pm

The New Slow Posting Thread

New thread so it can be seen.

Right now it's the slowest I've seen in months. Bad enough to log off.

Win XP Pro/IE.

:(

cblaisd Feb 1, 2005 1:37 pm

Sporadically very, very, very slow this morning (Hawaii time)

Last night though around midnight was particularly bad. This was not a time in which there was a particularly heavy user load.

airbus320 Feb 1, 2005 2:12 pm

Very slow up North....

jfe Feb 1, 2005 2:52 pm

Now I know why they installed the "Quick Reply" feature ;)

SEA_Tigger Feb 1, 2005 3:47 pm

Been pretty slow for the most part, but some of the lighter-hit forums (like this one) are pretty snappy.

Kiwi Flyer Feb 1, 2005 3:55 pm

Slow for me too today :(

BTW why the new thread?

kcvt750 Feb 1, 2005 5:35 pm

Just to bring it back up from page whatever of the last Slow Loading Thread.

dcutcher Feb 1, 2005 7:33 pm

me three

Resigned to the picture I've created of myself as poor typist and propmt whiner, I can contribute: so slow to connect it wouldn't even open
technical issues. I couldn't even gain control to logoff, had to do a break to gain control of my T-3 supplied PC. "Clever", I thought, "won't open, so techs can't hear real-time status of what confronts some FTers." It's the, Hey, Haven't heard any word to the contrary, so everything is perfect..." school of sysad. Very strange that some posters have no problems, others can't connnect atoll, atoll, Bimini...

I recall Techs here asked us to SPECIFICALLY start one when a new problem appeared. Bumping up one from 1999, 2002, 2004 does not assist them much. ;)

And to add ... what y'all said above re slowness.

And I was on at 1am - 5am MST .... clearly not a lot of folks on FT to cause any user drain.

SB_Travlr Feb 2, 2005 9:54 am

More grist for the tech support mill:
The site seems to hang more often than not, when going from one forum to another, opening a topic, or trying to reply.

Newest wrinkle for me is that now I get a error message that reads:
"Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site http://www.flyertalk.com/forum.showthread.php?t=nnnnn
Operation aborted."

When I click OK to close the message box, I go to a "Page cannot be displayed". At that point, if I click the Back button, the FT page I was hoping for often loads and I continue on my merry way.

It's an annoyingly circuitous way to have to navigate. Hope someone figures out a solution to all these problems soon: it's my favorite resource, and I really want to continue to love it!

The refresh (F5) button also works to bring up the page you were looking for. I've been experiencing this issue as well as well the one with the ad and top FT banner displays but the rest of the page does not. Not sure what's happening -- it happens at work with a T1 line and at home via dial-up

I've been getting the same error for a few weeks now (in addition to the slowdowns and stalls).

In fact, even clicking "reply with quote" took 60 seconds to load up the reply page just now.

As a result, I spend about 50% less time on FT since these problems started - mainly because of the frustration and time wasted dealing with the stalls.

PremEx Feb 2, 2005 8:32 pm

Last 2 days have been worse for me. And just about 10 minutes ago I hit one of those stalls...but this time it just hung for almost 3 minutes! Then the page finally appeared.

cblaisd Feb 3, 2005 12:21 am

Similar experience here as PremEx's

blackjack-21 Feb 3, 2005 3:17 am

It seems that lately for me, the first few forums I go to, load reasonably fast, then it gets slower as I get about halfway down the forums list. Each thread further down seems to be slower than the previous one that I open to read. Seems to be happening that way the last week or so.

RSSrsvp Feb 3, 2005 6:51 am

Last night between 11 PM & midnight EST, and also this morning from 8 AM until now, FT has been extremely fast for me. Has anyone else been pleasantly surprised?

RSSrsvp Feb 3, 2005 10:41 am

I spoke too soon. I am getting timed out and have already lost two messages that I was attempting to post within the last 15 minutes.

That was while I was using IE6. I then used Firefix to post, and it was slow but successful.

Indeed, it surprised me too. And then it suddenly ended :(

I am still having the problem, does not seem to matter what browser I am using... program haults waiting for add to load, eventually times out and I have to exit or refresh.

cblaisd Feb 3, 2005 2:36 pm

FlyerTalk is virtually unusable this morning (Hawaii time).

One click will be fine.

The next one will take 60, or 90 seconds to load the page.

The next one times out entirely.

It would be helpful to hear from Tim et al an update on why this is such a problem and why it is so recalcitrant to fix.

ozstamps Feb 4, 2005 1:05 am

Been so slow and "hangs" I thought it might be that my provider had slowed down my speed access for some reason.

Phoned them, got the usual 20 mins on hold, and they got me to run the 3rd icon here as a speed test (which I imagine anyone can do?) :

http://www.users.bigpond.com/speedtest/default.htm

Agent told me my speed was at top end of their wireless broadband service promise, and that is the largest provider here.

Like those above, agree there is a curious slowness in recent weeks. And it is just FT, not anything else I visit.

Glen
