It's still maddening, isn't it, that they have no idea how to fix these incessant and ongoing issues.

Despite months of these problems (which, oddly enough don't affect other IBBs run on the same platform), I too am still having to click to or three time on every second or third thread to get them to open. Pretty sad, isn't?

Noted. And added: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/12931358-post81.html

Oddly enough, I don't have that problem. I can read whatever has been posted immediately.

However, it I want to make a post it takes quite a while -- and often I have to re-post it after it has timed out.

The amount of time outs I have viewing the site makes it almost unusable. I sincerely hope you can figure out a way to fix it. Thanks...

Is there any solution in site to fix Flyertalk's incredibly slow response time? I have tried to hit the site all morning long as I travel, and this is my first success.

It has been like this, on and off, for over a year now.

Sad is right.

But I feel so much better now, knowing they are "still investigating" the issues.

  • very very slow
  • every page i open draws blank and i have to keep hitting reload over and over again (and then the thread shows as read without the "read first unread" link"
  • replies are hanging and then drawing a blank page but when i finally am able to get pages to draw again, my reply shows in the thread (tho i am copying my reply just in case it doesn't post)

In other words, the "new norm" on FT. Unfortunate, isn't it? :(

Apparently not.

Hey, what's the hurry?

Hmm, really? I read that you said the same thing about the Chat access issues on the "Problems with chat" thread.

Sorry but for me neither of these "top priorities" have resolved themselves despite my loading a new browser. How much longer does a "top priority" take?

IB-Dick - please understand my annoyance is not directed at your personally, but at FT IT(tech) as a whole. I mean, come on, how long does it seriously take to get these things fixed? FT is almost unrecognisable to me these days :(

Hvr Dec 28, 2009 3:22 pm

Please do something to fix the interminable delays and failure to load pages.

Posting here is a chore rather than a pleasure. There is so much I want to post and comment on yet I am lucky to get 2-3 pages loaded before it times out completely.

Much worse when i am actually logged in.:(

Same here. It took 10 minutes to get to this point.

Kiwi Flyer Dec 29, 2009 7:12 pm

Continual timeouts on FT today :(

cblaisd Dec 29, 2009 8:09 pm

I suppose I could live with it if I knew for sure that virtually every post/thread would take three or four clicks to actually sloooowly open.

But it's the uncertainty that's frustrating....

Sigh.

Sure wish IB knew how fix these problems.

uncertaintraveler Dec 30, 2009 10:27 am

Intermittently getting "wepage cannot display" messages.

Even after today’s shutdown for maintenance, the site seems to be taking a longer time to load threads and making a post will generally time out in the active forums. This is really getting frustrating.

It is much worse now than it ever has been for me. It takes a minute or two to load a forum or post.

Worse for me too might as well be down.

jbart74 Dec 30, 2009 6:24 pm

On a positive note, I was having problems yesterday and earlier today. Now back to normal lightspeed.

Thanks to all who have and are making the fixes!

SkyTeam777 Dec 30, 2009 8:48 pm

It seems to me that the more publicity that the site gets, the less meaningful posts become and the longer it takes to reach them. Seems publicity has been FT's own worst enemy!

HIDDY Jan 1, 2010 1:29 pm

I had problems the other day then it was fine. However today it is back to a crawl especially when replying to a post.
No idea if it has anything to do with Flyertalk or my ISP.

cblaisd Jan 1, 2010 2:07 pm

Continues to be miserable here too.

the_happiness_store Jan 1, 2010 2:13 pm

Strange. I have not had a problem since the initial reports.

Working for me very well using FF 3.5.6

Seeing that your ISP is in Argentina and mine is in Israel, I would suspect that the problem is with FlyerTalk.

Fredd Jan 1, 2010 2:43 pm

FWIW It's been working fine for us since that announced down-time the other day.

wsucougarchick05 Jan 1, 2010 3:58 pm

I've been having issues with pages loading as well...

17thousandkm Jan 1, 2010 4:07 pm

I've been having a problem where pages start to load and then get "stuck". Sometimes pressing the Refresh button helps, sometimes I have to go back and click on the link again.

redburgundy Jan 1, 2010 5:09 pm

I have also encountered very slow response on flyertalk.com over the past day or two....but sometimes the response is quick.

jackal Jan 1, 2010 6:20 pm

Just as a data point, I have not experienced any problems since the initial DOS/hack attempt (what was it, several weeks ago?). FT is (and has been) working virtually flawlessly since.

This is in ANC on three ISPs: GCI, ACS, and AT&T Wireless (iPhone).

JonathanIT Jan 6, 2010 12:23 am

Excruciatingly slow tonight.

cblaisd Jan 6, 2010 8:11 am

And it still takes one to four clicks on about every other thread for it to actually open.

I wonder if IB staff will be commenting?

Fredd Jan 7, 2010 9:34 am

Subscribed-thread e-mails slow to arrive

The site has continued to work fine since that maintenance shut-down but I notice that e-mails to subscribed threads are slow to arrive.

Updated: I've just had a couple arrive almost instantly so perhaps it's Comcast at my end creating the delay.

IBsteph Jan 7, 2010 1:59 pm

reporting this to Dick

Kiwi Flyer Jan 7, 2010 3:00 pm

During my recent trip around the world, I noticed FT speeds

South America - okay
Europe - super speedy (admittedly this was between Christmas and New Year when traffic may have been lower)
Asia - sluggish
Australia/NZ - never fast and intermittently crawling

VH-RMD Jan 8, 2010 4:47 pm

glad I found this forum and others are having the same problems as I, almost ready to give up on the site, up to five attempts to get pages to load, multiple clicks to get topics to open, pages hang and lock up.

Tried using 3 different browsers all with the same problems, has been like this since early December.

cblaisd Jan 8, 2010 6:55 pm

And not a word from IB :(

And I don't guess I'm surprised based on their past responses--or lack thereof.

Still slow as molasses here, often takes several clicks to access a thread if it will even get there at all. Many times still opens the frame of the page without any of the text from the thread.

Also noticed quite a few times where a script will hang (using Internet Explorer 8).

jiejie Jan 8, 2010 9:52 pm

Same problems for the last few days. FT is running very slow, whether I access through the Chinese ISP directly, or through my US-based VPN tunnel. Definitely not "normal." Each page is taking a couple of minute to load up (when they load). It's getting close to unuseable for me. It does seem to be better when I access during what is the middle of the night North America time, which leads me to believe it's some sort of overload or bottleneck issue. :(
