Please forgive me I know it's not your fault but why do we keep hearing these same old stories? Just what is the problem with this site? Every day there seems to be issues with reliability surely in this day and age it can't take months to fix something?

You're correct with your "in this day and age" idea. Things that shouldn't' be an issue clearly are. The problem is that this site wasn't built "in this day and age". As the site has grown, best practices (for the time) were used. Patches were applied and things were fixed in what was the most appropriate way. Many of those fixes left unexpected restrictions on expandability and we are ever closer to reaching those limitations.

Now, we do have a plan to fix these issues. Unfortunately, we're looking at a plate of spaghetti and trying to port it over to the more modern configurations. This is not a straight forward task and takes a tremendous amount of troubleshooting.

Are we working on this? Absolutely. Are we getting closer to deployment? You bet. Do I know exactly when it will be done? No.

I keep saying "we're working on the issue" which has to be horribly frustrating to you. Sadly, that is all I can really say. We are working on the issue, and it is a top priority.

I keep getting asked for details, and I'm reluctant on being specific. This is because if I posted about every little glitch that we are tracking down, I'll spend more time posting and less time fixing. Some of the things are proprietary, some of the things are boring, and some of the things don't require a conversation. I sincerely apologize for being vague, but it's done out of necessity.

HIDDY Mar 11, 2009 1:11 pm

Thanks for taking the time to reply IB-Dick. ^

With me not being very technically minded I haven't a clue what you were talking about but thankfully it sounds as if you do. :D

Happy fixing.

More database errors and things are crawling.

azepine00 Mar 13, 2009 3:20 pm

Timed out twice trying to get to this thread :(

linsj Mar 13, 2009 3:31 pm

The whole site has been timing out; it was painful to get here to report it.

wharvey Mar 13, 2009 3:59 pm

Took me over 40 minutes to get access to FT.... really sad!

Analise Mar 13, 2009 4:05 pm

Ok, it's not just me. Is there anyone from FT's tech support resolving this problem?

Flyertalk Website So Slow?!?

Is it just me or is the FlyerTalk website incredibly sluggish? I love this place, it's a wealth of knowledge but it's frustrating as all heck. Any suggestions/comments?

Rudi Mar 18, 2009 1:30 am

no problem here right now, loads instantly (but it happens from time to time, may be once per month for me, that the website is very slow or not responsiv at all).

Working fine here in the Bay Area. As a new member you might want to keep an eye on the Technical Issues forum where these types of complaints are posted.

For those interested: I changed my browser from Firefox to IE and it is significantly faster. Maybe this will help other experiencing similar issues.
Cheers.

Kiwi Flyer Mar 18, 2009 11:30 am

Kiwi Flyer Mar 18, 2009 11:08 pm

Happened in IE this morning as well...

goalie Mar 27, 2009 11:29 am

suddenly crawling along with database errors at 10:25am pst

edited to add: horrendously slow with both simple time-outs and database errors at 2:55pm pst

lin821 Mar 27, 2009 4:18 pm

For the last hour, it's been noticeable slower to load FT pages (across the fora I visited) and post replies.

I am using FF.

goalie Apr 6, 2009 1:15 pm

database errors and very slow as of 12:10pm pst (the time it started)

estnet Apr 10, 2009 4:10 am

I received a message saying I hadn't posted in a while - but had posted less than 12 hours ago - database seems totally messed up as it says my last visit was Jan - but really was 12 hours ago!

IB-Dick Apr 10, 2009 10:43 am

We had a data corruption issue yesterday. The issue is being worked on.

Firewind Apr 10, 2009 10:09 pm

Also in the last few days:

Not sure which thread to post this in, but since IB-Dick is watching this one, and reporting an issue: Two things just happened to my account in the last couple of days. I have been in the "invisible" mode, whatever it's called, when I'm signed in for months. Now I'm here (no red button anymore). Second, when going into My FlyerTalk to correct this (and I can't find where to do it now) I noticed that I've elected to see threads going back just a year. I did correct this to "All...," but I'd been auto-switched maybe also in the last few days.

So my (too) obvious reason for bringing this up is to ask how we can switch to the invisible mode again. Or is the only option not to sign in?

Thanks. :)

uk1 Apr 11, 2009 12:40 am

Slow "Submit Reply" and edit

I'm just checking!

I've been finding for a week or so that if posting a message or reply that after hitting "submit reply" it's taking forever for my reply to post. If I try to edit a response it seems to take forever to "submit reply".

I thought it might be some local IE settings or other security settigns but I cannot see anything that might cause it.

Is my problem attributable to the general slowing of FT or is it just me please?

lin821 Apr 11, 2009 8:26 pm

This should be part of the "side effects" from the sudden "improvements" since late April 8th. FT has been running into slow mode intermittently in the last couple days, even though IB was projecting "a couple of hours."

The main thread to report all the problems: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/techn...-9-2009-a.html

However, if slow FT has been consistent on your side, you may want to chime in here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/techn...ally-slow.html

MyFlyerTalk >> Edit Options >> Use Invisible Mode

First option there. Just click the checkbox.

In my view the only option under Privacy is “Allow V Card Download”.

Firewind Apr 13, 2009 10:48 am

I'm sorry, Stormybot, but I'm not finding it. Gave it several tries, and tried looking in other nooks, too. Thank you.

May not be available to everyone. I will have to check and see if it is supposed to be.

It was available to everyone before 4/8/09 evening and the eventually data corruption the next day.

You obviously haven't read this following thread that folks have been chiming in on this problem. Please give us some updates over there as well.

Actually, looking at the backup from prior to the data corruption, it was not. And according to the thread that you pointed out, it looks like someone has already had a discussion about this with Randy. I will leave this up to the mods and business group and will leave the function off for now.
