As everyone, I would enjoy to have an emergency exit seat in Y on the red-eye from SFO to ZRH. With LH I would try and call the FTL hotline as soon as check-in opens and sometimes get lucky, sometimes get kicked-off again by their airport staff, but I don't know the procedure with LX. Is there a US number to call (and does that make sense) or does everything only happen at the airport? Thanks for your replies!
But, LX have never let me reserve exit row seats with FTL status ('those are assigned at the airport sir'). However, I switched to using my Star Gold number from United and then the seats opened up. The way the LX staff were talking to me about what they saw on screen, it looks like this is controlled by the system when it detects a valid status, not a policy that they can choose to be flexible on. If you're lucky you might still get a seat in the first row of economy (D/G have the most leg room), but those are often quickly taken and in my experience can also be blocked unless you have higher than FTL status. |

Call the US or the Swiss Service centre (you can choose English) and they can change your seat assignment with FTL status.

I never sat in the exit row, but never had any problem booking bulkhead in advance on the phone, as *S and as *G, neither of which were with LH (CO/UA status) |

Bulkhead also has more storage area, similar to CO, by allowing you to place things on the bulkhead (which FAs do pre-takeoff with water bottles and newspapers).

As far as I know only the bulkhead seats (rows 4 and 6) have full-size cubby holes. I haven't sat in 5K but I assume the cubby hole there is the same as 7K that you see below.

Ok based on the pic and Joshwex90 , I took 5K to ZRH mini cab n/a GVA-JFK *as far as seats go, 5K and 7K are the exact same. The only difference is the feel of the mini-cabin, which as I said in the PM, I prefer |
Interesting communique given this was raised with the LX Lurker as well.
the J-seats are provided for our top tier level customers HON / SEN / STAR Gold and VIPs. In the seat map the seats are flagged with a *J* We received a negative feedback from our Core Customer Management. Many of our top clients claim that it is getting difficult to select a J-seat. A closer look at the passenger occupying the requested J-seat often shows that many of them are not even entitled to. Since the system inhibits seat reservation for other passengers than HON/SEN etc., sales agents overrule the system by using the mandatory seat selection entry (MSTN). Be informed that overruling the system is not permitted. The J-seats are part of the benefits for our top clients and shall be available to them first. Other passenger may request these seats upon check-in before departure. Also, be aware, that if a J-seat is occupied by a non-eligible passenger, she/he will be removed if a HON/SEN member requires one of them. No further information about the seat change towards the passenger will be made. |

Which J seats? All biz seats, all the J seats in Y?
|
I'm not sure about the J seats but the email team was more than happy to allocate me a window seat despite no status. This was far better than the phone team who kept repeating the facility seat mantra.

Which one?
12A "throne" seat in main cabin or 4K in the mini cabin - which one should I go for? (I've only sat in the "throne" seats so far, including 4A).

4A - definitely go with the mini-cabin
Didn't pay too much attention to the K seats last time so not sure how inferior they are to the A seats? |

I was assigned 12A on a fairly full flight a couple of months ago but since I was op-upped at the gate I never experienced 12A. ;) |
