I currently have a request in for a two day stay in Hawaii and haven't received a SNA confirmation.
Went through a mock online booking and I can book a suite with the exact description as the SNA request.
The 'system' checks availability each day 5 days out. What time?

Anything I can do?
Just checked availability - Suite no longer available for the first night of my stay, but next few nights it is. Coincidence?

Suite Night Awards

I am currently MR and little frustrated with their T&C about excluding suites. I noticed SPG does give 10 suite night awards upon hitting 50 nights. Below is the excerpt from the SPG website and I was hoping to get a little more clarification on it.

Take an upgrade when it matters to you most. Receive 10 Suite Night Awards5 which can be redeemed for upgrades to suites and select premium rooms. Confirmed starting 5 days prior to arrival and subject to availability.

-So they suites or select premium rooms. That's a big division between the two. I often get upgraded to highest level of guest rooms with MR but they are not suites.

-Are there blackout nights or limited number of suites per property for using suite awards? For instance - W, South Beach (Miami)... what are my chances of being able to use it there. I would like to use my suite nights in vacation areas on hot properties rather than work stays where I am out at work for 15hrs a day anyways.

- Are these transferable/ giftable? Such as I can use it to book room for someone else?

- How about validity of these suite awards in Europe/Asia? I have heard MR gives suite rewards much easily in Asia than in US. Wondering if things different for SPG as well.

Just trying to assess the true worth of the suite upgrade awards. Any experiences would be helpful.

Some hotels do not have select standard suites. Those that do not are encouraged to find an appropriate room type to substitute in place of them.

Your success at any given property, including the W South Beach, is directly proportional to the availability of the suite type you've chosen to attach to your reservation being in open sell status for all of your travel dates starting five days from your scheduled arrival date.

Only if you are booking two rooms and staying in one of them yourself. You cannot attach your SNA's to someone else's reservation.

The same would apply across any division. Your success at any given property is directly proportional to the availability of the suite type you've chosen to attach to your reservation being in open sell status for all of your travel dates starting five days from your scheduled arrival date.

Whether or not you should choose to use SNA's or to depend upon the standard Platinum upgrade benefit in a given region, I would leave to others to recommend.

Unfortunately just about the only people posting here are regarding problems with the program so we have no idea of the percentage as to how many of these go wrong. But there are enough reports to suggest caution and don't base your decision on just one benefit of the program.

I am, or have been, top tier in several programs due to excessive travel plans. I explored them due to availability in particular areas and how I was treated by some properties. I encourage you to look at all aspects and choose based upon your travel needs. I picked SPG and MR as my desired programs. Mostly because I get the best treatment by SPG (yes, there have been failures) and MR has better coverage. I have no plans of earning SNAs as I get very satisfactory upgrades already and hopefully that will not change due to SNAs.

Yes, this happened to me in May for a 1-night stay at the W in Austin. The upgrade ultimately cleared with assistance from my ambassador.

More recently I had SNAs confirmed at the Sheraton Waikiki despite the hotel appearing fully booked for my dates on spg.com.

Stumped

I've read every post in this thread and several others and still can't figure out the issue.

First, I booked a 5 night stay, but the reservation says the stay is not eligible for an SNA. My surmise is that since this reservation is a 5th Night Free, the rate did not qualify (since it was not an "SPG Free Night Award (including Cash & Points)." Is that correct?

I figured the SNA was worth the extra points, so I broke up the reservation into 1 Free Night Award followed by 4 Free Night Awards. The 1 nighter let me request the SNA, but the 4 nighter did not.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

If I understand correctly, 5th night free awards are considered an award stay and should be eligible for SNAs. You shouldn't have to break up your reservation and pay extra... Have you tried calling Customer Care?

Without any more details from your end, it's difficult to say what caused the problem. Like what room you booked and where etc.

I will give that a shot today, but I wanted to be as well prepared as possible. Thanks.

If you have been reading the thread, then you should have seen there are problems with this program and SPG is trying to get them fixed. Contacting one of the Lurkers or Customer Care is the next thing to find out if there is an issue with your reservation or the property's coding for SNA participation.

Being the weekend, you might not get very far, but it's worth a shot for a first call. Good luck.

I have a question about this. If I book two rooms and use SNAs for one am I eligible for the standard space-available plat upgrade on the other one?

First, love the program. Worked very well for me in New York City this summer.

Second: William, wondering if appropriate suites have yet to be identified for the Westin Snowmass? I tried to apply for a suite upgrade for a stay in February and the system said it could not process as no suites were available. Also asked my Ambassador and she said the same thing. Looked like lots of suites were actually available to book. Understand it's a new property and that identifying suites for upgrades were likely low on the priority list of a property in the throws of a renovation that has yet to open under the Westin brand.

So far I have had success using suite nights in both the us and Europe. Now I'm a bit confused. I have applied for them at the st Regis Rome spg shows suites available to book yet I received an email saying nothing was available but they would keep looking. Why won't they book the junior suite for me automatically if it is available?

Only if you occupy the room in which the SNA was not requested.

The property hasn't officially opened yet, so I'm thinking there may be some set-up issues that we need to sort out. I'll poke around a little and see what I can find out.
