Xiaotung do you know anything about Air Macau? I think CA increased its stake from its original 10-15% to a majority or even full stake from the original shareholders (private investors, Macau SAR govt, etc) over the last couple of years.
Would be great to see Air Macau and Shenzhen Airlines become one entity/holding group and both in Star Alliance - Macau is a great base for regional Southeast Asia, cross-strait flights or even a transit alternative to HKG. I reckon CA could kick CZ and CX's rear if it played the cards right.
Having no Star flights between HKG and TPE is ridiculous (ok now EVA will provide some), and I can see a "Casino Express" going between MFM and LAS!

Any estimate on when EVA would actually join A*, assuming the application is approved?
And for that matter, could the application be rejected? I'd always assumed that an airline applied if both it and the alliance wanted it to do so, with the lag period being the time necessary to negotiate details, integrate systems, etc.

This makes sense for both *A & BR, with the changing landscape in Asia. With CI moving to Skyteam, and CX not wanting anyone in OW who compete with them *A makes the most sense. *A continues its policy of having coverage in as many places as possible.

those horror business class seats are only good for the regional (short-haul).
BR can still restrict the lounge access in TPE, eg *G in Y is not allowed in diamond lounge/PL garden. (just like SQ)

Provided most European destination by BR need a transit stop at Bangkok, I am interested whether TG and OS will not approve its addition or there will be a condition that BR will need to divert its LHR, AMS and VIE routes to Hong Kong (And Air Traffic Demand in Hong Kong is growing fast which means such a move will be strategicly beneficial to *A as a whole, rather than over competition in BKK)
But interestingly, this will help European carries to boast capacity to its Hong Kong service, as well as SE Asian Carriers Thai Airways and Singapore Airlines, as it could help picking up some CI one stop passengers via Hong Kong from Taiwan.

US$70M is lot of money. They just finished renovating / expanding the premium areas (PL, Diamond). I doubt it would cost/they would spend US$70M to renovate the regular lounge (which is for Silver, Gold and certain Credit Card holders). Did you mean NT$70M?

I suspect that it is more likely that they mean an announcement that they have been accepted as a future member could come in the first half of 2012.
