I think if they want to join the alliance, those restrictions will need to be loosened quite a bit.

I forgot when they stopped giving EQM on EVA but perhaps this is a hint per the website:
"+ M, Q, S, T, L, B, V, U, X, Z classes discontinued for accrual effective Jan. 15, 2009."

I would bet the earning classes would loosen up a bit if they were an alliance partner rather than just a bilateral partner.

Any estimate on when EVA would actually join A*, assuming the application is approved?
And for that matter, could the application be rejected? I'd always assumed that an airline applied if both it and the alliance wanted it to do so, with the lag period being the time necessary to negotiate details, integrate systems, etc.

A* application was in last year. I suspect they approved it in Queenstown in December. If all goes well, an announcement will take place on 2 March in Taipei. BR will spend 70 million dollars to renovate their lounge in Taipei.
