What I hope to see is all *A members give at least some miles on those discounted fares. Even 20% is better than nothing.

This is a common problem in Asia, regardless of alliance. If you go to Expedia, Orbitz, or whatever your favorite booking site is and search out almost any non-peak dates in advance between Asian cities, the mileage earning on most of the fares you can "easily buy" is somewhere between zero and crap. (I mean without going out of your way with a T/A or Refundable ticket).
Personally I wouldn't mind a "buy up" option to 100% for people who care about the miles but buy in advance and don't need a refundable or non-restricted ticket.

Asian airlines can still figure miles awarded as a cost and essentially award it as a benefit of higher fares. Even Air Canada does not award miles for the lowest fares. US airlines can't do it probably because of competition.
So, newer planes, better amenitites, better meals, better service (although at lower labor cost) - something is got to give, right?
The Chinese have a saying "The Wool Comes from the Sheep" - basically means the buyer wants more, then the buyer pays more.

If you read my entire quote you would see that is not what I was saying. The original comment to which I replied was demanding that fares get 100% mileage on EVA as a condition on joining *A. I was pointing out that most other arilines in *A do not give 100% mileage on all fares.

Well, for a start they traveled the same number of miles.... I don't have a problem with high ticket classes earning accelerated miles, but why should a cheaper ticket earn less miles than traveled?

I doubt it. That logo is associated with the parent company and that is how they like it. Y.F. Chang likes things a certain way - green and squarish - like Evergreen Marine's containers. The "open globe" means limitless possibilities.
If you think about it, having a star in the logo sort of works for a Star Alliance carrier.
