EVA * application is in

I am a big fan of EVA, and would consider them over CO across the Pacific. I don't know about their comfort level etc. vs E+ but service is high quality IMO.

Love EVA but you don't always get EQM on discounted tickets. I found it hard to get on a plane without getting closer to elite status incrementally.

:-: Agreed. This is an issue. lets see if Eva gets accepted, and what the earning ratios are, etc.

This would be excellent news! Of course caveat emptor WRT earning/redemption fine print.

I believe before we went to the current zero EQM earnings on Eva, only their full Y or near full Y fares earned 100% EQMs. Somehow I don't see that improving significantly even if they join *A.

I think if they want to join the alliance, those restrictions will need to be loosened quite a bit.

If I recall correctly it actually wasn't that bad. My mother flew Eva to TPE a few years ago and earned full EQM on a reasonable fare class.

I forgot when they stopped giving EQM on EVA but perhaps this is a hint per the website:

"+ M, Q, S, T, L, B, V, U, X, Z classes discontinued for accrual effective Jan. 15, 2009."

Not clear what this has to do with CO?

I would bet the earning classes would loosen up a bit if they were an alliance partner rather than just a bilateral partner.

This has nothing to do with CO. As it relates t:p *A, we'll move it there...

I hope this means the SFO EVA lounge will become a star gold lounge :D

Thunderroad Feb 23, 2011 2:47 pm

Any estimate on when EVA would actually join A*, assuming the application is approved?

And for that matter, could the application be rejected? I'd always assumed that an airline applied if both it and the alliance wanted it to do so, with the lag period being the time necessary to negotiate details, integrate systems, etc.

I doubt it will change much, they aren't any better/worse than CA.

More lounges are always better---but the SFO Eva lounge is nothing special. I like their TPE lounge more. The SFO Eva lounge is close to the International RCC and SilverCris lounge.

A* application was in last year. I suspect they approved it in Queenstown in December. If all goes well, an announcement will take place on 2 March in Taipei. BR will spend 70 million dollars to renovate their lounge in Taipei.
