Signing the contract on Mar 29 to join *A at some undisclosed date in the future, or signing the contract and actually joining *A on Mar 29?

That doesn't mentioned in this report. But I would guess this is the ceremony for receiving the approval to join *A instead of formally being a member.
I read it on Taiwanese newspaper saying that they will sign in first Quarter of 2012, and will not offically becoming operating member until possibly last quater of 2012. In which I do hope EVA does become a member in the last quater, because I'm planning to fly w/ EVA for my next Asia trip .:p |

That would be an extraordinarily fast accession. Usually it takes between 12 - 18 months from signing to being a member ( though MS took only 9 months while SA took more than 2 years, so there is a bit of variation)

EVA Airways to join Star Alliance this week http://www.ausbt.com.au/photos/view/...-flipper-1.jpg IN BRIEF | Taipei-based carrier EVA Airways will sign on the dotted line with Star Alliance this Thursday. An EVA Airways spokesman confirmed to Australian Business Traveller that the airline and Star Alliance will formally announce its membership at a joint press conference to be held in Taipei this Thursday morning, March 29. However, EVA won't be an active member of Star Alliance – with reciprocal point sharing through EVA's Evergreen Club, lounge access and other alliance perks – until the middle of next year. "There's a lot of integration to be done in our systems, that all has to take place before we are a full member of Star Alliance, which we expect to happen in the second quarter of 2013" the spokesman told Australian Business Traveller. EVA is Taiwan's second-largest carrier behind China Airlines, which recently joined SkyTeam. EVA counts Brisbane as its sole Australian port, with twice-weekly flights between Brisbane and Taipei. |
So if I fly with EVA in the coming year, will I eventually be able to transfer the earned points/miles for use on *A flights?

I hope they change the logo by then, looks so old.
As long as they use Hello Kitty to mask their planes, I don't anyone is going notice the logo. |

What logo should they change to? I don't think it looks that bad. It's also similar to the Evergreen Logo which is the main business of the owner of the airline anyways.

I don't think it will happen - I think PEK still does not allow Republic of China (i.e. Taiwan) carriers to overfly China en route to Europe - thus they have to fly via BKK or overfly Korea/Russia.
Oh well, if they keep not awarding miles for cheap tickets, I'll just have to give my business to SQ. |
