Frequently Asked Questions about Rapid Rewards Visa

1. What are the different card types?
non-business Plus, non-business Premier, business Plus, and business Premier.
Premier cards have a higher annual fee but give 6000 anniversary bonus points vs. 3000 points for the Plus cards. It is generally agreed that you will get the bonus for a new account if you have not had that particular type of RR Visa card before, but Chase appears to be in the process of changing their policies (see below).

Note that prior to RR-2.0, the two types of RR Visa cards were "Classic" ($29 to $39 annual fee) and "Signature" ($59 to $69 annual fee). Plus and Premier are new products for purposes of the (soon to be retired?) "One bonus per product" rule.

2. Is there a zero annual fee version?
No.

3. Can I "churn" these cards? How often can I reapply for the same type card and get the signup bonus?
The official rule has recently changed more than once. Closely check the T&C of your offer as different rules may apply to concurrently available offers. The Inflight offer linked above states:
This bonus offer is available to you as long as you have not received a new cardmember bonus for this product in the past twenty four months.
Referral offers have been seen with a limit of one individual and one business bonus per lifetime (although T&C read by the CSR taking the application differed from those printed on the referral offer).

Actual results sometimes differ from the official rule. People have reported receiving the bonus a second time on the same card type at various intervals even when the bonus was officially once per lifefime per product. Please post your results here.

As of mid-May 2015 Chase has cracked down on applicants who appear to have much less than average attachment to their cards. Specifically, more than 5 applications within the past 24 months is the approximate cutoff: Chase crackdown on churners: Please report your RR Visa approvals/denials here

4. Can I cancel the card and still collect the anniversary bonus?
Yes. Reasonable people disagree on whether this crosses the line of exploiting the card issuer. The anniversary bonus is described a reward for having been a cardmember for the past year, not as a reward for paying the next year's annual fee. Based on that description, the bonus has been earned even if you then cancel the card. As a practical matter, there is a window of only a couple weeks to accomplish this. The bonus points will post on the billing date of the statement containing your new annual fee, which will have posted earlier in the billing cycle. You have 30 days from posting of the annual fee to cancel the card and have the new fee refunded.

5. Does the annual fee count toward the spending threshold for the signup bonus?
No.

6. When will my signup bonus post to my Rapid Rewards account?
If you have met the spending threshold at least several days before your statement date, the bonus will normally post 2 days after your statement date, not when you actually spent the money! Cutting the timing or the spending amount too closely is not advisable. Mistakes can happen.

7. My statement shows sufficient purchases to meet the spending threshold. Why didn't I receive the bonus?
This can happen if you met the spending threshold just a few days before the statement date. It appears that accounts are flagged for meeting the spending threshold independently of the statement generation process and less frequently than daily.

8. How can I determine my statement date?
You should call Chase (phone number on back of card) to check your next statement date. Credit card companies are now required to have payments due on the same numerical day of each month, which means closing dates vary throughout the year. (Before reforms enacted after the financial crisis, RR Visa cards had constant closing dates rather than constant due dates.) The closing date should remain within the same small range unless you request a change of your payment due date. When you request a change, Chase normally can delay your next statement but cannot accelerate it. If you are unwisely taking the risk of cutting your timing too close, you should call Chase more than once to confirm your next statement date.

9. I accidentally crossed the spending threshold in December rather than January. Can I return a large purchase to bring my spending back below the threshold?
Unlikely. It appears that the sweep to check spending threshold does not un-flag an account previously flagged as meeting the threshold. It's not even clear whether the sweep counts returns at all. If you realize the error before the statement closes and you have a payment due date change available, you might be able to push the December closing date into January.

10. Can I apply for a credit card in my wife's name but my Rapid Rewards number, so that the points funnel into my account?
People have tried this. Some have succeeded. Others have reported that Chase closed the account and posted no Rapid Rewards points. Do you feel lucky? Programs can become very aggressive when they suspect members of defrauding the program by using non-matching names. When you game the system you are only on solid ground if you follow the rules to the letter. Breaking the rules means that the program can penalize you if they want to, and believe me: They want to.

11. Can I scam this system in any other way? I just had a clever idea.
There is nothing new under the sun here on FlyerTalk. If it relates to established program rules and it isn't discussed here you can be confident your idea will not work.

I first noticed the value of the CP over ten years ago, about the time of the famous Continental > Amtrak > Choice > WN screwup.

Here is one of the old threads touching on it:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/south...s-credits.html

Believe me when I say almost no one in this hobby knew much about it or cared in the slightest.

It struck me then, as now, the best deal in FF. I brought it up at one of the very early Ann Arbor DOs (2007?) and literally every single participant laughed at me. WN? No meals, no F, no Hawaii, no assigned seating, no Europe? A JOKE.

There were about 6 travel blogs at the time that anyone paid attention to.

The CP gets, minimum, 10000x the attention now that it got then.

And get off my lawn.

Approved for both the Plus and Premier cards Saturday. Chase confirmed minimum spend doesn't need to be met until mid/late January.

It has never been this easy to get CP for ~ 23 months. In the past you always had to come up with another 6k CPQP

I HOPE I'm wrong !!

My wife was approved Friday, the card is not in her Chase online account. Did your card show up online after approval ? If not how did you send the SM ? Thanks
1- word on the street is these 60k links end October 4th. I'm not sure if it means today is the last day or if tomorrow is the last day, but for anyone following I'd get it today to be safe.

2-The card automatically showed up in the Chase online account. I suppose you'll just have to wait until you get the card since it wasn't automatic.

There are facebook pages, sites like this and countless blogs dedicated to all this now, it's what ruined the TP last year.

I'm a serial churner but I had my wife stop getting cards in early 2016 when we first heard of 5/24. Any couple can easily do what we do and still get plenty of miles/points, it just takes planning. I will stop getting cards on 12/31/17 making sure I am only 3/24 on 10/1/2019 in case an offer like this pops up again.

We average ~ 6 R/T CP flights per year, 3 MSP/LAS and 3 MSP/TPA/RSW............add in maybe a one way BDL/MSP.

As far as revenue, we have never paid for a WN flight , all points going on 5 years now

As I said, I hope I'm wrong.

Do you guys do any earning pts other ways..like southwest shopping etc?

We earned our for first CP in 2014 and have yet to pay for a WN flight and are all set for years to come.

One hidden advantage of CP is it is allowing us to accumulate hundreds of thousands of AA miles via the mailers which we have no plans to use until we are out of WN points
Do you have an AA awards cc??

A card, no. 7 cards , yes, it's a constant churn if you can get the mailers

Going back for 2 more AA before the EOY.

If I need something I will buy through a mall ( not always SW as I use these type of purchases to extend the expiration date of UA Miles, etc ) but I never buy things I don't need. When not doiing a spend I will pay bills on INK ot get 5X points that can then be transferred to UA, Hyatt, Marriott, Wn.

95% of our points are via signup bonuses.

I may have screwed up, and I would appreciate some help if anyone can provide.

I've had a CP for 2017 and planned on prequalifying by canceling my SW Premier then applying for the Plus and Premier (had already received the signup bonus for the Business Premier in the past 24 months).

I canceled my personal Premier today mistakenly assuming (amateur I know) that I could reapply tomorrow for it, but the agent helping me cancel said that I wouldn't be approved due to that card still being in the credit bureaus' systems. I asked if I could just call recon when I got the 30 day message, and she said that wouldn't help because they still go off of the credit report. Is this 100% correct?

Does anyone have any solutions? I was thinking I would just get the 60K bonus on the Plus and then reapply for the premier at the lower bonus of either 40/50K after the 30 days. Obviously, I would prefer to be able to get the 60k, but I know it ends tomorrow. Thanks everyone.

Prior to my applications I had $10k of biz credit on one card and $42k of personal credit on two cards. I reduced one card's credit line from $33k to $15k by SM, got a response back within an hour or so that the credit line reduction was complete, then waited 48 hours to apply.

I applied last night for the Plus, then the Premier a few minutes later, using the 60k links from this thread. Safari on Mac doesn't seem to work for at least the Plus application. I got all the way to the end and clicked Submit and a window briefly flashed but nothing happened. I repeated the Plus application in a Chrome incognito window and it went through fine, as did the Premier application.

Both applications initially gave me the 30 day messages. I called the automated line this morning and was told I had two applications. One I'd be notified in 7-10 days, and one was approved. I checked my Chase account online and the Plus account had been approved ($33k) so I guess the misfires with the Safari browser didn't matter.

Above are my most recent application dates. If Chase is considering only the month for my 5/24 status, then it's possible that the Plus app put me at 5/24. If I'm not approved by October 2, I'll call recon since I should be back at 4/24 then. It's also possible that I'll just need to move some credit line around for the Premier card since I now have $15k more credit than I started with just with the approved Plus application.

edit: 1/20/18 confirmed as the deadline for meeting the spend by SM
Got a letter a few days after the application that I needed to submit documentation to confirm my address. Thought that was weird since I've had Chase cards for years, not to mention that my Plus app was approved with no issue using the same address. I called the number on the letter (not one of the ones listed in the wiki) and they updated the address, then told me my Premier app was denied for having too many open cards.

I asked for reconsideration (since it's now October), the rep asked why I wanted two cards, I said to split business and personal expenses. I had to move some credit from the plus card but got approved for the premier with no further questioning, and I confirmed via SM that I have until January 26, 2018 to meet the spend. Good to go! CP & 120k points here I come!

Premiere card still being offered at 60k this morning. I applied and was approved immediately.

I have never done this with time to spare before, I'm always the guy on Dec 15th who is rushing to get two cards and burn a min spend before I need to go somewhere with a friend in January.

I need a 2nd card. Plus is also being offered at 60k. Should I apply right now for a personal Plus card? Wait 30 days (since i have 30 days to kill)? Business Plus / Premiere? I have a legitimate business with EIN.

You can apply right now for the second card. I applied for both of my personal cards on the same day. The business card would be better since it won't count towards 5/24, although you need to be under 5/24 to apply for it same as a personal card.

AFAIK there is no definite answer on a CHASE business card counting for 5/24.
