Frequently Asked Questions about Rapid Rewards Visa
1. What are the different card types?
non-business Plus, non-business Premier, business Plus, and business Premier.
Premier cards have a higher annual fee but give 6000 anniversary bonus points vs. 3000 points for the Plus cards. It is generally agreed that you will get the bonus for a new account if you have not had that particular type of RR Visa card before, but Chase appears to be in the process of changing their policies (see below).
Note that prior to RR-2.0, the two types of RR Visa cards were "Classic" ($29 to $39 annual fee) and "Signature" ($59 to $69 annual fee). Plus and Premier are new products for purposes of the (soon to be retired?) "One bonus per product" rule.
2. Is there a zero annual fee version?
No.
3. Can I "churn" these cards? How often can I reapply for the same type card and get the signup bonus?
The official rule has recently changed more than once. Closely check the T&C of your offer as different rules may apply to concurrently available offers. The Inflight offer linked above states:
Referral offers have been seen with a limit of one individual and one business bonus per lifetime (although T&C read by the CSR taking the application differed from those printed on the referral offer).
Actual results sometimes differ from the official rule. People have reported receiving the bonus a second time on the same card type at various intervals even when the bonus was officially once per lifefime per product. Please post your results here.
As of mid-May 2015 Chase has cracked down on applicants who appear to have much less than average attachment to their cards. Specifically, more than 5 applications within the past 24 months is the approximate cutoff: Chase crackdown on churners: Please report your RR Visa approvals/denials here
4. Can I cancel the card and still collect the anniversary bonus?
Yes. Reasonable people disagree on whether this crosses the line of exploiting the card issuer. The anniversary bonus is described a reward for having been a cardmember for the past year, not as a reward for paying the next year's annual fee. Based on that description, the bonus has been earned even if you then cancel the card. As a practical matter, there is a window of only a couple weeks to accomplish this. The bonus points will post on the billing date of the statement containing your new annual fee, which will have posted earlier in the billing cycle. You have 30 days from posting of the annual fee to cancel the card and have the new fee refunded.
5. Does the annual fee count toward the spending threshold for the signup bonus?
No.
6. When will my signup bonus post to my Rapid Rewards account?
If you have met the spending threshold at least several days before your statement date, the bonus will normally post 2 days after your statement date, not when you actually spent the money! Cutting the timing or the spending amount too closely is not advisable. Mistakes can happen.
7. My statement shows sufficient purchases to meet the spending threshold. Why didn't I receive the bonus?
This can happen if you met the spending threshold just a few days before the statement date. It appears that accounts are flagged for meeting the spending threshold independently of the statement generation process and less frequently than daily.
8. How can I determine my statement date?
You should call Chase (phone number on back of card) to check your next statement date. Credit card companies are now required to have payments due on the same numerical day of each month, which means closing dates vary throughout the year. (Before reforms enacted after the financial crisis, RR Visa cards had constant closing dates rather than constant due dates.) The closing date should remain within the same small range unless you request a change of your payment due date. When you request a change, Chase normally can delay your next statement but cannot accelerate it. If you are unwisely taking the risk of cutting your timing too close, you should call Chase more than once to confirm your next statement date.
9. I accidentally crossed the spending threshold in December rather than January. Can I return a large purchase to bring my spending back below the threshold?
Unlikely. It appears that the sweep to check spending threshold does not un-flag an account previously flagged as meeting the threshold. It's not even clear whether the sweep counts returns at all. If you realize the error before the statement closes and you have a payment due date change available, you might be able to push the December closing date into January.
10. Can I apply for a credit card in my wife's name but my Rapid Rewards number, so that the points funnel into my account?
People have tried this. Some have succeeded. Others have reported that Chase closed the account and posted no Rapid Rewards points. Do you feel lucky? Programs can become very aggressive when they suspect members of defrauding the program by using non-matching names. When you game the system you are only on solid ground if you follow the rules to the letter. Breaking the rules means that the program can penalize you if they want to, and believe me: They want to.
11. Can I scam this system in any other way? I just had a clever idea.
There is nothing new under the sun here on FlyerTalk. If it relates to established program rules and it isn't discussed here you can be confident your idea will not work.

Update: Called and spoke to a live person and found out I was declined. Went through reconsideration and was still declined for 2 many recent applications (I had also gotten a Chase Ink Plus last month). That was probably a mistake having 3 Chase applications in 30 days. Oh well, live and learn. I told the CSR that I was trying to open new accounts in my name since until recently all my cards were actually in my wife's name (this is true). He later came back and said something along the lines of that may be true/reasonable but he thought "there may be another reason as well". Never actually called me out for applying for both Southwest cards, but I assume that's what he meant.
So, I have the Plus and was denied for the Premier. How long should I wait before I apply for the business card? Or should I wait a while and apply for the Premier again?

Thanks for sharing! I just recently got started signing up for credit cards for bonuses and a little MS to meet the minimum spends quickly, so I'm sure I'm making mistakes here and there and have a lot to learn.
I just got my first Chase card last month (Ink Plus), although I'm an AU on a couple of my wife's cards. I have also had checking/savings accounts with Chase for 10+ years. I'm thinking they will auto-approve one and will verify that I have an existing relationship with Chase and the other will get approved fairly quickly. Of course, when I called the automated status line I got the message that the Chase signup wiki suggests often results in denials, so who knows.

I'll have to think about that. I'm not planning to do any spending until January anyway, I really just wanted to know that I already had both cards with 50k bonus. Now I think I probably just need to wait long enough so I don't have so many recent applications. I only plan to do one more app this year (next month), so if I wait until January and apply for the business card, hopefully that will work.
I've had a joint checking/savings account with Chase for 10 yrs, just no credit cards solely in my name. In addition to the 3 recent Chase applications, I got the SPG Amex and the Barclaycard Arrival+ in August, so 5 apps in 3 months might have bothered them.
Then again, they may just be a little particular anyway. Just applied for the Premier for my wife and got the "please call right away" message. I'll give that a day and check the automated line. Sounds like that often goes to approved pretty quickly. She has an actual profitable business, so I'll also apply for the Business card for her. Should I do that today to try to get the credit pulls merged or wait a day/week to apply?

I'm not sure if this would work, but I would call back the recon line and ask them to move some credit around. If you have a high amount for the chase ink. Ask them to move you credit line around. So the premier might get approve. Not sure if it will work, but give it a try.

Thanks, I must have missed that in all my reading. I assume you mean don't apply for 3 Chase cards in 90 days, not any 3 cards. I applied for 3 and got the first 2, which was the Ink and the RR Plus.
I'm definitely waiting until January to put any spend on the card. Hopefully that won't raise any flags if I open the card and just let it sit for 11 weeks, then apply for another. Should I do a little spending on it, but keep it under the minimum spend?
I'm waiting on my wife's Premier application to hopefully go to approved. She has no Chase applications in the last year.

Sounds like you made the basic mistake of applying for more than 2 cards in a span of less than 90 days. I am surprised you got 3, and that too the Ink. Sometimes Chase will give you 3 but never 4. That's your problem. Just wait 90 days and apply again. Make sure your 50k points from the plus post in Jan. Then when you get the 50k from premier you'll have the CP for 18-20 months.

Hoping somebody can help clarify something for me.
Got approved for the 50k plus last night (Oct 16th), credit limit of $2k. Minimum spend needs to happen prior to 90 days after approval (Jan 14th-ish)
On my chase account it's showing that the next due date is December 4th. Based on this info, when should I start using the credit card to fulfill minimum spend?
From my understanding, the statement closes a few days after due date. But I'm somewhat confused on when the points are posted. Is it after payment is received on or prior to due date? Or when the next statement posts?
Trying to time this perfectly.. have my honeymoon coming up Dec 1-16 and I just realized that the Plus charges a foreign transaction fee! So I think I have a good enough excuse to apply for the premier next month..just can't figure out the best way to time it so that all my spend on the honeymoon would post in January.

Applied last Thurs. for the Plus and Premier. Instantly approved for the plus with a credit limit around 30k. Not sure why the limit is so high considering my limits on my explorer and marriott are around 10k. About twenty minutes after applying for the Plus I applied for the Premier and received the "thanks for applying...please call us as soon as possible to discuss" message. I've seen numerous conflicting reports about whether to call in as it could be something simple as an identity question. I have not called in up to this point and was curious if anyone else has recently had this happen. Also, assuming I do not call in for an identity question or question about moving around credit, will the app still be able to move through the system?
