Hi SixtCustomerServices.
I'm in Florida. I arrived yesterday from Spain. I rented a car at MIA and I let the people there know that I'd like to go to New Orleans. They weren't able to tell me if there was any way that I could do so paying something upfront. They told me that I could be charged a fee for having left the region (Florida, Alabama and Georgia) or maybe be charged per mile outside of that region. My question is which one of the two is it and how much would it be in each case? Thanks in advance. |
Hi, thank you for your message.
Our rental information states that the vehicles hired in the USA can only be used in state of pick up and the surrounding regions. It does not state that this is not applicable if a fee is paid. However, leave this with me, I shall contact our team in the USA and come back you ASAP. Many thanks, Louise.

Hi cuyi02,
The team in USA have stated that you are able to drive the vehicle outside of the state the vehicle was collected as long as you are able to present a return airline ticket/boarding pass. There is a charge of $0.50 for every mile driven during your rental period for taking the vehicle out of the state. You will need to notify the location of your plans so they are able to apply the relevant costs at the end of your rental period. I hope this information helps and if you need anything further please let me know. Many thanks, Louise. |
I'll get in contact with them. Again, thank you.

I might rent a car, say in Florida for 11 days with a fare that includes unlimted miles. But might drive it 1 day out of Florida and then return. Is it a GPS tracking installed that calculates miles driven outside of state or how is it calculated exactly ? Cheers, M |
Germany
Soon I'll be travelling to Germany with my son. We're flying into Frankfurt and back to the US from Munich. I'm trying to make the trip special, so we're planning on renting a BMW 4 Convertible (LTMR). The surcharge for renting from Frankfurt airport is quite substantial on this class of car for nine days.
Are there any relatively painless suggestions for minimizing this cost? Splitting the rental, picking up somewhere else. Keeping in mind I've never travelled to Germany before so I won't be very comfortable getting around. Thanks! |
Sixt - Any Questions?
Picking up the car from a city station cuts down on the airport surcharge. Either direct or rent a car for one day at the airport and then switch.
Please always compare the pricing from Sixt.com to Sixt.co.uk and Sixt.de as they sometimes differ |

Hi,
We book our vehicles by category codes and these determine what type of vehicle you receive. For example, in our fleets we can offer CLMR and CLAR vehicles. The 'M' and 'A' describe the type of transmission you receive. As long as the category you book has an 'A' as the third letter you will book and receive an automatic vehicle. If you book a manual, we cannot guarantee you will receive an automatic by purely requesting it. I hope this helps and if you need anything further please let me know. Thanks, Louise. |
Hi Louise,
I tried to booked the XDAR category several time, but I got reply from email that it is unavailable, I tried to called the reservation centre but I got answer that it is unavailable neither. I booked a PDAR already but I still want a larger car, is it possible for you to arrange one there? Thanks.

Hi, thank you for your message.
At the Amsterdam Schiphol location they do have the higher class vehicles on their fleet but they are on a request basis only. This means that when they are booked the branch have 48 hours to confirm or deny the booking depending on the availability. The PDAR vehicle category is the highest vehicle category you can book and have confirmed immediately. I hope this information helps and if you would still like me to provide you with a full quote for the higher vehicles please let me know. Thanks, Louise |
Hi,
The vehicles are fitted with trackers that we are able to pull reports from to see where the vehicle has travelled to during the rental period and how many miles was driven in each area. I hope this helps. Thanks, Louise

If the team in the centre and the website is stating the XDAR is unavailable then it will mean that they have sold out for the dates you are looking to rent. I can place a request on your booking to upgrade the vehicle if they have an XDAR vehicle return early but it cannot be guaranteed that you will receive one. The branch will do what they can to accommodate your request if they have the requested vehicles available.
Thanks, Louise.

The branch would do what they could to meet your request however if a manual vehicle is booked it is most likely that a manual will be received.

Thanks for the reply, exactly this is my question, if I reserve a Manual and note in that I need a automatic, how big is my chance and luck to get an automatic?

What SCAR and FCAR types are available at your MIA airport property? If there are multiple makes/models available, will they let me choose or randomly select one for me?

Sixt - Any Questions?
