I noticed today that a number of hotels have various tie-ins with Sixt. A couple questions (I'm Hyatt Diamond):

1. How do I get the discount - do I need to show my card at booking, ask for a discount, etc?
2. How reliable is Sixt with getting points sent to Hyatt? (In other words, how long does it take?)

PM Gary here your HGP details and he'll set you up with Sixt Platinum status - you then log onto the website with that and get the discount. And upgrades. It's a good programme.

Not at all ... I have ongoing discussion with the same Gary about several sets of points from >6 months ago which still haven't credited. It's a hopeless programme.

We are hoping to rent a car at EDI for 2+ weeks, within the upcoming week. I just checked the sixt website and the prices are much better than Avis. I checked the Class CDMR, Vauxhall Meriva, which we are familiar with and is a four door, which we prefer. If I booked this vehicle on the internet, would we be guaranteed this car, but more importantly would we be guaranteed a four door? It also stated " Equipment Navigation System: bookable obligatory"
Does that mean we HAVE to book the nav system? Is there an extra charge for a spouse driver? I did not see that on the website.

Ended up looking at Google and found out the site to get Sixt Platinum. Impressed with the price - it was the only company requesting <75 euros for a one-day full-size automatic (FDAR). Really looking forward to the trip in a few weeks.

One more question: Is the FDAR typically upgraded as Plat, and if so, what is the usual upgrade? I know that the upgrade is not guaranteed, and I'm perfectly happy with the FDAR, anyway.

Hi Eykramer

Please confirm your query regarding the Mercedes SLS and I will be more than happy to assist you. If it is a price quote you would like please send me a message or an email providing the dates and the pick up location and your Sixt express card number if you have one and I will come back to you.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Nancy,

Whilst Sixt can not guarantee a particular vehicle within a group, I have spoken to my colleagues in Edinburgh today who are confident that they will have a Meriva allocated to you your booking. Once you have placed your reservation please private message me or email me ([email protected]) and I will add notes to your reservation and I will e-mail Barry the Branch Manager to further improve your chances, although I honestly do not think this will be a problem anyway. The CDMR group is guaranteed to have 5 doors and to seat 5 passengers.
Regarding the booking of a navigation system, on the Sixt website the Navigation is an additional extra that you opt in if required. By leaving the Navigation guaranteed box unchecked, you neither pay for or expect to receive a navigation system. However, should you decide in the location that you would like to have the Sat Nav then you can request it, at this point subject to availability.

If you wanted to add an additional driver there would be an additional charge of £5.22 per day, however this is up to a maximum of £42.00 so for a 2 week rental the charge to add your spouse to the reservation would be £42.00.

I hope that this information helps and I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello gmax58,

The next vehicle group from the FDAR group would be the PDAR group. I hope that this information helps to clarify the policy and if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Which ever car group you get....enjoy your trip ;-)

Iceland Rental

Hello,

I'm looking to rent a car in Iceland; I have a reservation with Budget but discovered that Sixt will rent a VW Polo for about $100 less for the rental period. Before I switch, I'd like to know if there's a way to guarantee a car with an MP3 AUX jack so I can plug in my MP3 player.

Also, is there an extra charge for an additional driver? I can't seem to find that info.

Thanks!

Hi Gfunkdave,

I would like to check with the branch to see if this is something they have available, although I cannot guarantee this for your rental, I can certainly improve your chances by speaking to the branch manager. Please let me know which branch you wish to collect from and the dates and length of your rental and I can work out any additional charges for an extra driver. If you prefer to contact me directly my email address is [email protected].

Thanks,

Hello,

I'm looking for a car at Seville Airport that seats 7. I thought the VW Touran was large enough, but it is listed as seating 5.

Do you have any minivans in Seville that will seat 7? My dates are approximately 11OCT - 20OCT 2011.

Thanks.

Hi Javanite,

I have had a look at the vehicles available in Seville and I believe a SVMR group would be the best one to go for to suit your requirements. I understand that a Touran does have 5 seats but in some models it has 2 fold down seats, however Sixt cannot guarantee that the vehicle group would have anything more than 5 seats and we can also not guarantee that a particular model would be given.

Please email [email protected] with the exact dates and whether you require a manual or automatic vehicle, also if you have a Sixt Express card or affiliation to any airline or hotel partners. You can also email me direct on [email protected], however I am out of this office tomorrow and Friday and I didn't want to miss your email.

Speak to you soon

Korgi Oct 7, 2011 11:28 am

Hi,

Planning to rent a car (preferably an estate) over Christmas in Munich. Had bad experience with Avis last year in Italy when I got stuck on snowy road and had to buy snow chains at the end.

I see Sixt has an option for winter tyres for Germany but is quite expensive. My question is that if I don't choose that option, what tyres will the car have?

Thanks.

ninjalad Oct 8, 2011 10:38 am

Korgi,if you do not book winter tyres then the rental company can give a car with summer tyres, they might just give a car with winter tyres or if the weather is bad then they might insist that you pay for winter tyres or decline the rental.
In Germany it is illegal to drive in wintery conditions without them but in good conditions summer tyres can be used,in Austria from Nov-Apr winter tyres must be used.
So in Germany they are an option which can cost as much the car rental!

I've got a 6 week OW rental picking up NW France returning SE France. As a Platinum with a EDMR reservation, what model of car can one expect?

TIA
