Hello,

I have reserved an FDAR at Madrid Barajas, which I understand is BMW Serie 3 Aut., Mercedes-Benz Clase C Aut., or Audi A4 Aut. Here is my question -- I would LOVE if the C class was the 2015 models. Are those carried at this location? If not, what model years do they typically have in stock?

Secondly, what do I need to bring to pick up the vehicle? My understanding is that I will need a my US Drivers License, International Drivers Permit, Passport, and Valid Credit Card.

Thanks!

Well, not to be a smartass or anything, but unless your rental is going to take place next year, it will be at best, a 2014 model. Typically we don't have a new model each year in the same sort of way as the US, instead a larger refresh every 3-4 years.

But I guess you mean the all-new C Class just being (been?) launched. Depending when your rental is, maybe. Unfortunately, it is hard to say, but with any luck nearer the time one of the Sixt guys might be able to at least find out if they have the new shape C in the Spanish fleet.

As for collecting the vehicle, that all sounds about right to me. Not 100% about the IDP, but I've only rented within the EU, so I'm not best placed to comment on that.

Enjoy it when the time comes! ^

I've never been asked for the international drivers permit and have probably rented more than 70 times in Europe. The IDP is more probably necessary if you're stopped by the police, I think. With that said, no rental station has ever asked me about an IDP. And never been stopped by the police. I do have an IDP but it has been gathering dust in my travel wallet and hasn't seen the light of day since I put it in there a dozen years ago. Another caveat, I have not rented in Spain, so, YMMV.

Question for you. I'm heading to London tomorrow and might need a car on Sunday. What's the best location to rent from in London with the best chances of a nice upgrade? :) We will be staying close to Westbourne Park tube station. So won't be too far from Paddington. But would like to rent a car to check out some English countryside! Help is much appreciated...

Hi buck3y3nut,

Our closes location to Westbourne Park tube station is Shepherds Bush (3 Bramley Road, London, W10 6SJ).

If you send me a private message with the details of the reservation you would like, I will see what I can do.

Many thanks,

Gary Caudwell.

Thanks for the background! I'll actually be in Spain next week! Anyone here know what the current FDAR Spanish fleet looks like?

Hi,

Has the new shape Merc C-class joined the UK fleet yet? What are the other possibilities within the same rental class?

SixtCustomerServices Jun 19, 2014 4:30 am

Hi senna60_94,

I have checked with our fleet department and confirmed that we have some of the new shape Mercedes C-Class on our UK fleet.

As this does not constitute a complete replacement of all of the Mercedes C-Class vehicles, we would not be able to guarantee that you receive one of the new shape vehicles for your rental. However, we can put a preference on your reservation for this, and the branch will do their best to provide it where possible.

I hope this solves your query. If you require any further information, please feel free to contact me directly.

Many thanks,

Gary Caudwell.

I have a question about geographical coverage restrictions in US. Could you help with this?

We are picking up a Sixt car from Seattle. Driving to Canada. British Columbia is a "surrounding territory" so no issue. However, we want to go to Lake Louise and Jasper, which are in Alberta(AB), just the other side of the province border along the same road.

A phone agent said we would be in breach of contract. Is there any way to purchase additional insurance though? We will be in AB for 3 nights, driving 1 road. How likely is this to become a serious and/ or costly issue?

If Sixt doesn't want their car outside British Columbia, Washington, Oregon etc, then rent with another company.

Thx, my reservation is for mid October so I will give u more details nearer that time.

SixtCustomerServices Jun 20, 2014 4:56 am

Hi IdiotAbroad,

It would not be permitted to take a vehicle from Seattle to Alberta.

The agent you spoke to did inform you correctly - as stated in the terms and conditions, a vehicle collected from Seattle can only be taken to British Columbia (Canada), California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon.

Furthermore, it is not possible to pay extra in order to permit the vehicle to be taken out of the above mentioned areas.

I am sorry that I am not able to reply more in accordance to your wishes on this occasion. If you require anything further, please feel free to contact me directly.

Best regards,

Gary Caudwell.

adding a day to a prepaid rate

I am renting in South Africa next week (DUR airport). I have booked for one day (16h- 15h the next day) and chose the prepaid option, but now might need to change my plans.... either arrive a bit earlier, like 12h, or keep the car a bit longer, until maybe 17h. Is it possible/easy to add another day to the res? I'm guessing easier to extend on the end, but if I need to pick up earlier can I call?

thanks
