Just let staff know of the incident, and to clean the pool.

There are a few large gecko-related species (they almost look like komodo dragons!) around. They are harmless. You're in the tropics after all...

The one we first came across, it was on our way to the Amanusa villas site visit. We nearly ran over it but the car screeched to a halt just in time.

After our site visit we went for a massage, came back to our suite after and I was taking a nice bath, when I saw the gecko swimming laps (!!!) in the koi fish pond that surrounds the bathroom.

The gecko must be thinking "Sweet! I have a private pool!"

thank you for the info.

I was also thinking that I had a private pool not to share with a future purse or wallet )

I called on the spot and an assistant manager came with someone else but my buddy was already gone

In the bath... your head and his head were at about the same level...‎

By the way, Novotel beach is moving from the right of nusa to the left, however on the left there is no green to keep it isolated.
Actual novotel beach will be used by a new shangri la.

Had lunch at Dari and the gaspaccho was very very good.
However the tour consisted of 3 commercial/toursit/overpriced/useless shops and 1 temple and a small rice field. .(then dari)
The ride to Ubbud and Dari visit were nice. (they showed me a 2 level suite at Dari) can't remember the name or number).

Italian restaurant at nusa is average, doesn't match a five stars hotel.‎

5 rooms only are busy.
4 pm late check out confirmed right after booking.
5 pm at check in
6 pm after asking the assistant manager.
‎Tomorrow I'll ask 6 am the next day for free hahaha

Had dinner at the San regis and food is pretty good and name calling‎ every 2 minutes but the place is busy. You do see guests here lol‎

At this size , what you saw is no gecko , likely a monitor lizard !

You see these or similar at Pulo too , at Wana , on Moyo they are more like protected ' pets ' there , just don ' t disturb them . Marine reserve & such ..
As posters have mentioned , these are the tropics and such creatures keep the Eco balance . The smaller ones like geckos etc take care of insects while the larger ones , the rodents & what nots

Is it acceptable that two staff told me names of French VIP who stayed here ?

I'll surprised that these VIP will be happy to know

Won' t say it ' s acceptable to say who ' s staying .
But if it ' s history and with social media being so pervasive , well ..
Meaning Aman has always been rather discreet but these days along with new HQ management / new owners somewhat involved , much is public knowledge . If they say any thing , it ' s probably already in the news somewhere like Facebook, Twitter , etc which most have these days ( not me )
Like after Aman Tokyo ' s official opening , some guests are descending on Amano'i in the next few days / week .. If any of you reading this are here too , it will be interesting , but being a widespread property , you may not see anyone anyway , perhaps at the restaurant
Perhaps you are already in Tokyo .. ainternational ??

Amanresorts, even more so than Four Seasons, is/was(?) VERY hush hush about their guests, irrespective of their celebrity status. I remember a guest at Amanzo'e dropping the name of a famous travel writer and commenting about his/her stay, to which the manager in question replied that they'd "never comment or disclose information about future or past guests whatsoever". Even though it was an open secret. But I like that myself and I would think other guests appreciate this approach as well and would hope that under new ownership things will be handled in the same way. This whole Beyonce/Amanpuri/free stay publicity issue comes to my mind, which is very un-Aman?

When I went on one of the guided hikes at Amanjiwo in 2014, I remember our guide said that we had a very nice suite and it was in act the same one that the princess of a European country had stayed in (he named the country, I will not here). We did not think much of it at the time, but adding it here since it seems like this has been going on longer than just since the recent turnover in ownership.

If it was a metre long and black, it's the same species one I saw. And unlike a lizard or a gecko, it's body and feet are not side on, but its body is 'off the ground', rather raised, from its feet. I forgot how many of them there are at Amanusa, but I think the staff mentioned there are more than 1.

It's a fantastic looking creature!

They're harmless.

It's THE basic rule in the service industry NOT to mention who is staying. That should NEVER be disclosed by the hotel even if the information is widely available on social media etc.
Base on this single fact, Aman is NOT a trustworthy hotel.
No chocolate croissant this morning, need to go to Motel 6 to find some ??
They don't bring a new razor/ shaving cream set daily, only on arrival... cheap cheap.
Full ashtray need to be changed for an empty one...they forgot / don't know this rule.
Beside the hotel smile, kindness (and little guest), I still don't understand why people like Aman that much...

Generally my / our experience too that no names are mentioned . We ' ve always appreciated the Aman style & approach .
But it seems things maybe slipping , since last year , not so much by the individual Amans management teams though . But read between the lines , just hope the teams are allowed to run the Amans as before .
