If it was a metre long and black, it's the same species one I saw. And unlike a lizard or a gecko, it's body and feet are not side on, but its body is 'off the ground', rather raised, from its feet. I forgot how many of them there are at Amanusa, but I think the staff mentioned there are more than 1.
It's a fantastic looking creature!
They're harmless.
