I booked 2 nights at Park Inn Budapest a couple months ago. Yesterday I noticed that they slightly increased the price on cc.com but hotels.com was offering the same room and deal (stay 2 nights get 20% off) for slightly lower. I tried filing a claim online but it wouldn't send. So I typed out the pdf claim form into an email and sent it to BRG along with the hotels.com screenshot of the price in EUR (hotel currency). Got a reply back from Dublin within 20 hours with the new adjusted lower rate + 25% off and confirmation email. The cancellation times were 1 hour off (hotels.com has 7 pm, cc.com has 6 pm) so I was expecting to be rejected, but was pleasantly surprised.

Good work,
Seems like hit n miss.
And in this case, you got lucky, since (if I undertstand the rules) you need to file the BRG within 24 hours of booking. And since you booked your hotel a couple of months ago...

Since it's refundable, I made another booking specifically for the BRG. I'll be canceling the first reservation and keeping the BRG.

Wow, a successful BRG, that's really something! Congratulations!

Booked the Radisson Blu Disneyland Paris for 2 nights in Nov. Family room (2A+1C). Total ~EUR330.
Found a rate of EUR303.58 on expedia.de.

Within 12hrs "success" and rate reduced to EUR228.00.

..now lets see what CC Gold brings... the last time I booked the same, I was given the Jr Suite there..

Like most others on here I have found CC BRG to be a complete sham. Never been able to get a claim to stick. It's a pure marketing gimmick, maybe they hand out one or two every now and then so it stands up to audit. I just canceled another reservation with them, they won't get my business willingly with this kind of business practice. I guess they'd rather pay 10-20% commissions to OTA. So f'em.

I don't know if it is accurate to say "most others." There are a LOT of posts from those of us that HAVE had the CC BRG work out just fine. And not just "one or two now and then for show" either...

Made my first claim a few days ago after I found a lower rate on 'hotels.com'.

About two days later it was approved with no problem. 25% discount on lower rate.

Though, they modified my reservation online which now shows "0.00" as rate on all nights. Weird. On the email they wrote the new rate currently.

Yeah, the $0.00 thing is pretty common when they do the BRG. You should be good.

Also, I think people don't post here as often when the BRG works fine. They tend to post when it doesn't -- so this thread might be a little biased/lopsided.

But, again, LOTS of people have had it work just fine.

I found it to be a waste too. Very few people seem to find it helpful, and many seem to be newbies with few posts. Hmmmmm.

Dude -- there are 22 pages here -- and LOTS of successes mixed in. And many not from "newbies with few posts."

Sheesh. Whatever. I haven't had to do one in a while since they've had so many deals for points anyhow. I haven't booked a non-point CC in over a year now, I think.

Add myself in another nonnewbie who has had at least 4 or 5 successes. I have had no better or worse luck than with Marriott and IHG. A lot of the folks who have unsuccessful claims don't follow the relatively straightforward rules. If everyone could get a successful BRG claim for every CC stay, that would suggest a problem with CC's pricing. Finding a truly "better" rate should be an exception, not the rule.

So if you find a better rate with a better cancellation policy (or a 1h in cancellation time difference) it is not a truly better rate ?
If you find a better rate with a little difference in the room description, but you know the room MUST be the same because there is just one kind of room in the hotel it is not a truly better rate ?
If you find a rate which is half the CC price but in an other currency it is not a truly better rate ?

Each time SPG or Marriott denied me a BRG it was because the rate was not here anymore when they checked. CC denied 98% of my claim, always for silly reasons.

But yes sometimes it works. Like sometimes poeple win the 6-49...

No answer for the CC apologists

I didn't always find it straightforward to deal with the BRG team, but ultimately all of my sensible requests were approved (Getting me into Park Plaza London Westminster for less than £100/night )
