Impossible. C is the upgrade bucket for instruments from Y to J. If you upgrade from J to F, your booking class would be A, and AA knows this is the upgraded A vs the revenue A, which means you will not get the A bonus miles, but your actual booking class, which should be I, not C.

Y, C, F is what is displayed on the AA website when listing flights. It is representative of the class of service your original fare class was in.

So what I copy pasted, and posted to my account over a month ago, is incorrect?

Unless its a OW partner ticket (not AA issued/marketed) It can show J instead of C.

Great Mileage run

We are on our last leg of our PTY mileage run. LAX-CLT-JFK-MIA-PTY-MIA-JFK-LAX

I have to say it was well worth it. We are ending up with just under 20K points and spent $930 for Business and First class.
We will be going back to Panama again as well. One day was not enough to spend there.

First MR

Hey Everyone! First post and first MR after reading FT for a little bit now.

LAX-JFK-MIA-PTY RT in January. Currently Plat and no way I'm getting EXP this year so buckling down to make it happen in 2016.

Was able to get lie flat LAX-JFK on 32B, JFK-MIA on 763, MIA-JFK on 772 and again on 32B JFK-LAX - all for $807! I think that works out to ~3.5 cpm.

Needless to say I'm excited.

I have an overnight, 9 hour layover in PTY, what would you guys recommend? Hotel nearby? Roughing it at PTY?

Also, curious how do I know if I got a refit 772? Itinerary says First and SG shows lie flat but the pictures look like an older plane.

Thanks for the inspiration!

Welcome to Flyertalk. Great routing/planes. The refurbished 772s have 2 cabins (1-2-1 seating), and the older ones have 3 cabins. The seat maps should help.

For the hotel, read a few posts before yours. IHG point breaks are available.

So I am new to this so please bare with a newbie. I need 17k points or 19k miles to hit platinum and want to take a mileage run. Based out of LAX and flying American as a current platinum. How do you recommend I do this best. Buy a premium ticket or book economy and upgrade with miles or 500 mile requests? Best routing and way to search without being blind. Thanks again!!!

There are a lot of factors that are personal to your situation. Do you want to take a vacation as part of the MR? Is flying in business class important to you? Is it just you, or are you flying with someone else? Is time off an option or do you want a quick turn?

If you are planning to upgrade with 500 mile certs, I'd recommend booking business class if the price is reasonable. Business class earns 2 EQP per mile, so you'll only need 8.5k miles in paid business class which requires less time in the air. This thread about LAX-PTY in business is great for a trip to PTY or a quick turn and the EQP. If you do this, I'd recommend routing through JFK to get the A321T which has lie flat business class seats.

You get a lot more award miles with a trip to SE Asia in economy class and it would be similar cost wise. Do you want to vacation in SE Asia? It's always personal based on each individual's priorities.
