Thumbs up (Business) AA: LAX-JFK-MIA-PTY (Panama City) $723 RT, 18.8K EQP (3.7 CPP)

Some good availability for Aug - Dec travel (seems to work best with weekend departures). Not bad for business (recliner) especially if you need the EQP bonus.

Note: Wasn't able to get the fare fully working on Google Flights (will say fare unavailable) -- had to search again on AA website.

Edit 2: Better route is LAX-JFK-MIA-PTY and fit in a transcon lieflat on the A321T (9.4K EQM, 18.8K EQP , ~24K award miles) (only 14.1K count towards EXP challenge as those use base EQP)

This makes the cost per point around 4 cents depending on the weekend and cost per mile around 8 cents. Not too shabby for a premium cabin (lie flat only on the LAX-JFK leg; rest is recliners)

Only problem is potential overnight layovers (less of a problem if you fly LAX-MIA-PTY, but you get less miles).

Edit: RT around 7K EQM, 14K EQP (with the 2015 EQP bonus -- only 10K EQP applies for challenges)
Looks like it also books into First for $743 for Aug 29-31

Try LAX-JFK-MIA-PTY r/t for $770. Non-challenge is 18,864 EQP at ~4.0 cents per point. Not bad.

Nice! What dates? I'm only finding 1500 for that fare.

Doesn't work for me either. Shows up on Google flights but doesn't go through on AA.com. However, I was able to right it for the Return to go through JFK.

EDIT: With some editing on AA.com I was able to get it to work through JFK but it does double the cost for the times I want.

Must be you.

Use the link on google flights; it will error out. Now, just change the cabin to business restricted on AA.com and search again.

Nope but hope soon to be!

Interesting post on the same flight, though I can't say the writing is particularly stellar.
