CEO Kjos missing opening ceremony due to DY delays

A yet another one - now JFK-OSL.
http://www.takeoff.dk/norwegian-matt...er-i-new-york/
Danish only
Left 70 pax and bagage at JFK.
Seems like HiFly found a great business model

And also OSL-BKK-OSL did not materialise - even the DYs CEO missed a opening ceremony - because his own airline could not delivery on time arrival

Does it factor in that Norwegian sent the birds long haul after a very short test period on European legs? BA seem to have spend more time dooing European runs with the A380 and 787 to familiarize themselves with the planes. Have DY been too optimistic in their planning?

Not really, the short hops are usually for check flights to certify flight crew (who need a certain amount of starts and landings), nothing to do with the aircraft itself.

I was wondering if the crews and especially the ground crews lacked experience with the birds, and that added to the difficulties, not necessarily being the cause of

Norwegian (DY) are calling the recent regularity issues with their two B787s a "crisis", and urges Boeing to meet with them this week, to discuss solutions to their extremely troublesome start to their long-haul operations, due to multiple technical issues to both their brand new dreamliner aircraft. Obviously this is not acceptable, and this is already a customer relations nightmare for Norwegian.

i guess nobody runs statistics that are publicly available, but how is the dispatch reliability for JAL and ANA? Right after the grounding was lifted, Japanese media reported on almost any issue, but currently it is either running fairly smoothly, or the media has lost interest. Is Norwegian hit harder than other operators? Of course with only two birds, there are no spare planes arund in the fleet.

I recently flew HEL-NRT on JAL, and was keeping an eye on JAL's 787s before that. Didn't see any major disruptions.

Thats the key, DY only has two aircraft, so any minor snag disrupts the schedule. LOT has a similar problem with 5 aircraft. Just look a SK, even they have problems when the RR engines on the A330 act up, and they have a dozen widebodies

Boeing execs visit OSL to get a public flogging:
http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/...0HL1XV20130925

and promises to have more spares on stock at DY stations:
http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/...0HL3PE20130925

Of course the compensation issue is not widely discussed... My take is that DY is passing on the Hifly wet lease to Boeing 1:1.

So when it came to passengers hit by such disruptions, did NAS re-book such passengers onto other carriers as under EC 261/2004?

Out goes one Boeing 787 and in comes an Airbus 340? leased from HiFly instead.

I wouldn't be surprised if Boeing is picking up the tab for more than just the 1:1 capital/financing/leasing costs.

LOT is threatening with litigation to get compensation for the problems. So Boeing may not be all that generous.
