VIA CX  B    REQUIRED      D- FARES

(For clarity I removed the suggestion that you obtain a confirmed reservation in R/L/B on the same plane because you already had an alternative route.)

That's what the rule sheet PDF seems to claim.
The rule sheet is only a summary of the true rules which are in the relevant IATA resolutions, in the tariffs, in the fares, and in the associated data tables.

trouble_ Sep 12, 2018 11:03 am

Following up: they would not let me hold space on two aircraft (confirmed seats in D on QF via SYD and confirmed seats in R on CX). They were also pretty sure CX wouldn't let me waitlist for D but since I didn't want to risk flying economy class, I didn't explore that option further.

EF still shows D9 on the CX flight with POS HK but the BA agent couldn't see it. He suspects CX is happy to sell D themselves but not letting BA sell it as part of DONEx fares.

I'll call back in a few days/weeks to see if any D becomes available. Worst case, flying via SYD isn't that terrible.

If anyone has any tips on getting BA to see D inventory on CX, I'm happy to try. :)

pbd456 Sep 16, 2018 3:27 pm

Did you try calling BA HKG office?

When I had CX ticket, I had confirmed on one day and waitlist on another day. not experience on BA ticket.

I meant, confirmed on one flight and waitlisted on the other; not confirmed on both. Holding inventory speculatively is generally frowned upon.

The agent didn't even attempt to waitlist you in D?

I was confirmed on Jan 5, and waitlisted on Jan 3 and Jan 4 on CX flight on a CX ticket.

Let say I have ticketed HKG NRT CMB NRT HKG.

The fare construction says HKG TYO CMB TYO HKG.

AFter flying the first few sectors, do u think there is a chance to do a date change to HKG HND, NRT CMB, HND HKG via some helpful agent?

No. 1) It's not merely a date change. 2) You've gone from four sectors to five. 3) There is no CMB-HND service, at least on One World.

IAANN Sep 17, 2018 4:29 pm

Hi Guys. Might be a stupid question but can we fare a DONEx ticket on ITA?
I'm curious to see if anyone done any from EX-EU or LHR recently and for how much?
Thanks!

ITA can't price an RTW, but you can get the base fare from EF, and then use ITA to get an estimate of taxes and fees for various routes.

If you are willing to re-route (and pay the $125pp re-route fee) you can add or remove segments as well as change the ticketed points. You still can't exceed 16 segments total, so if you originally book 16 segments, fly 6, and then re-route you still can't add any. If you originally book 10 segments, fly 5, you could re-route and add up to 6 more.

yes. that is the rule...... but i have had RTW with over 16 sectors twice.

my parents had 18 sectors.

reroute on QR CAI DOH to CAI ATH DOH

reroute on JJ BOG EZE to BOG SCL EZE

Dr. HFH Sep 17, 2018 9:39 pm

OK, yes, there is an exception which covered CAI-DOH. They stopped flying the route, so in that case it’s possible that you may exceed 16 sectors, as they did. Change that you are trying to make doesn’t fall into that category.

You are not permitted to exceed 16 segments for a voluntary reroute. An involuntary reroute may involve exceeding 16 segments, and that has happened to me on multiple occasions. I didn't mention it in my post above because the context is voluntary reroutes. Note that even with an involuntary rereoute, exceeding 16 segments can cause problems in reissuing the ticket. There are various ways to work around such problems, of course.

If you either post here or send to me by PM your starting city (or a few possible ones) and travel cabin (F,J,Y), I'll be happy to get the fares for you. Keep in mind that your actual cost is likely to be ~40% above the base fare due to fees, taxes, etc.

Fantastic.

Did you see that I posted (in post #2410) those fares immediately after your initial question? I included fares from LHR and OSL for all cabins and continents.

Hi All,
I have just purchased a DONE4 with AA and have had for the first time extreme difficulty in finding D availability on connecting AA domestic flights some 325 days out...This is a big change from the past ( have been doing DONE 4 and DONE 5 for many years ) and now have forced layovers which is not too pleasing. or less time in my stopovers....tried to look for code share flights as well but AA insist no availability in D....Anyone know why this difficulty has now arisen ?

Generally, availability via code shares is worse than as prime. I use ExpertFlyer to check availability before putting my routing together. If we knew the specific flights and dates that are not available someone may be able to offer advice.

AA 1378 MIA-LIR July 22nd....surprisingly no D class available but with only 8 J seats maybe AA are holding them back....a real pain as have been taking this flight every July for the past 12 years and this is the first time we have had an issue....causes us an extra day in MIA which we dont want !!

This has happened before. I've nearly always been able to get BA or QF codeshares on the same flights. Last time that it happened across the board, it went away after a few weeks and the availability returned.

Hi

Looking at a DONE5 which will include Australia and would have liked to do MEL-DRW-SYD but it appears that it's not allowed. Any ideas on getting around this ? Would MEL-DRW-CNS-SYD be permitted for example ? Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks

christep Oct 11, 2018 6:13 am

As per a recent discussion in another thread, yes, your alternative would be permitted.

I would caution against that many segments in Australia, particularly on those routes. MEL-DRW-CNS will be flown by narrow bodies with a perfectly adequate business product domestically, but when you're paying for a DONE5, I'd be limiting your Australian sectors to trans-cons on the A33x only, if at all possible.

Calchas Oct 11, 2018 3:48 pm

If you do want to travel around Australia (and why would you not) it's a good place to spend miles, bad place to spend on local cash fares.

Hi,

Quick question on the 4 segments per continent rule - does it include the flights into and out of the 'continent' ? eg is ......... SYD-SIN-BKK-HKG-KUL-NRT-DEL ... valid ?
Thanks

pbd456 Oct 22, 2018 8:14 am

There are 5 sectors intra Asia. India is in Asia.

No, your itinerary is not valid, because it has five flight segments in Asia (SIN-BKK-HKG-KUL-NRT-DEL)
Drop one of those, and you will have a valid itinerary. The SYD-SIN is an inter-continental flight, as will be the DEL-??? flight

No, only flights within a continent count against the four segment per continent rule.

eg is ......... SYD-SIN-BKK-HKG-KUL-NRT-DEL ... valid ?
No, because India is part of Asia. The SYD-SIN segment is inter-continental so it doesn't count, but then you have five segments entirely within Asia (SIN-BKK-HKG-KUL-NRT-DEL).

petez Oct 22, 2018 10:29 am

Thanks for the replies - it should have been DOH not DEL in which case I am ok.

Is there a fee to pay if you have to change a date of a flight after your originally booked flight departed and you are a no show?

Im sure its been asked before but I didn't see this mentioned in the FAQ specifically

Yes, the various RTW products typically state in the fare rules that if you no-show you must pay the $125 re-route fee. Always better to cancel the flight or change the date/time beforehand.

ajnaro Nov 7, 2018 5:51 pm

I recently missed a flight due to congested traffic. I was charged the no-show fee, but no rebooking fee, to fly the next day on the same flight.

I didn't think there was a distinct no-show fee. If you no-show you need to pay the re-route fee as it were. Indeed I assume you could no show and then re-route with only one fee paid. Anyone done that? Bit of an edge case.

I was not charged a reroute fee as I did not have to change the route. Date changes are free. I paid only one fee, which the agent called a no show fee.

Leaping_Deere Nov 8, 2018 9:58 am

The conundrum I had has been solved. The OW website wouldn't give the connection I wanted, so I hatched a plan to make it a surface sector and book a one way ticket separately, risk the connection and just rebook if I missed.

I then realised my flight was international to domestic and the connection time I was risking was a no hoper, with a border to contend with. had it been domestic to domestic I would of chanced it, so I've just got to leave earlier and endure longer layovers.

jerry a. laska Nov 8, 2018 10:20 am

From the rules:

2. After departure:
a. Changes are permitted provided ticketed points remain the same.
b. Changes to ticketed points are permitted at a charge of USD 125 per transaction.
c. No Show requires rebooking at a charge of USD 125.
d. If the rerouting results in an increase to the number of continents previously charged, the ticket shall be recalculated. Ticket may be reissued to any applicable Explorer fare validating all rules of the new fare except for restrictions on retroactive use. Rerouting fee applies when the resulting fare is less than or equal to the original fare. No refund applies. See Upgrading provisions when recalculation results in a new fare basis at a higher value.
