Rookie mistake. I was trying to be one of the cool kids with all of the lingo but I meant Qantas
As I just mentioned, they quoted me $30,000 yesterday. Any idea why they got that number? Do you have a certain amount of segments on the OW carrier that you are booking through?
a sequence of.one way ticket

Meaning that is how the agent entered it, as opposed to a RTW?

The upside is it has priced at what it should: AUD4546.20. In fact, it's AUD300 cheaper than what AA quoted which seems totally bizarre.

The agent also now seems to accept that my routing is valid and has accepted that if QR opens up availability (which, in my opinion, will be as simple as phoning AA to make the change once it's ticketed), then USD125 will be the charge and Bob's your uncle (ie. all is good).

Qantas is holding the fare for me for 24 hours. I confirmed, twice, that the fare was locked in. Yes, I know. I should not procrastinate. My issue is Qantas won't charge me in USD which is where my funds are at the moment. But I guess I can't have everything.
Congrats!! Would you mind sharing what number you called?

This was for my ex-MPM trip that AA had priced out for me before the price increase.

BA was able to put in the ex- SEZ flight on Qatar. Im just waiting for them to come back with the fare.

I just tried February 2017 - still no fares. If fares are going to be newly filed for when QR starts its service, then I expect the prices will be "sensible", meaning not incredibly low
As I just mentioned, they quoted me $30,000 yesterday. Any idea why they got that number?
Remind me - what are you trying to book (meaning how many continents and what fare class, for example is it a DONE5, an AONE6)
Also what dollars was Qantas quoting USD or AUD?

Looking in ExpertFlyer, the base price of an AONE6 ex-USA is close to USD20,000. If QF quoted you that, then in AUD with the ad-ons that could come close to 30K
Do you have a certain amount of segments on the OW carrier that you are booking through?
Yes. As a general rule carriers want to have some of the long-haul segments on their flight numbers before they will ticket. In my case:
DONE5 ticketed by QF - the last 6 flights are on QF, including 2 inter-continental flights
DONE6 ticketed by AA - the middle 4 flights are on AA, including 3 inter-continental flights

Got it. I'll let you know what BA says when they call me today.

It's a DONE4. I gave her the exact itinerary that I gave to AA and the base, before the price increase, was $2398. I asked her several times if that was in USD and she said yes.

Yes. As a general rule carriers want to have some of the long-haul segments on their flight numbers before they will ticket. In my case:
Do you think that could be the issue? I had no Qantas flights on my route.
Thank you pandaperth!

Don't worry, I checked all QR destinations a few days ago and none are close to what we had. MPM is still the lowest. It looks like a lot of the fares are being priced in USD to avoid similar devaluation creating buying opportunities.

But, it does look like we have KRT Round 2 situation going on.

Give Qantas another shot. Push them if they say something's not allowed when the collective wisdom of FlyerTalk knows better.

QR has some weird married-segment logic. The way around it is to have stopovers in DOH - so for me CMN-DOH and DOH OSL were fine whereas CMN-xDOH-OSL was not.
Interesting.

Doesn't surprise me, unfortunately.

Certainly. It was 131211, the number for Qantas Platinums. Try the regular number if you're not Platinum. I think it's 131313. Perhaps start by asking the agent if he or she is familiar with the oneworld Explorer rules.

I have no idea what happened there - other than pbd456's suggestion that it was priced as a series of one-way fares and not as a Oneworld Explorer

Do you think that could be the issue? I had no Qantas flights on my route.
Possibly, I don't have a strong feel for this. Does the ticketing airline get a slice of the action just for ticketing, I wonder? If so, then QF might be willing to ticket.

(As an example: I bought my ex-KRT DONE4 from AA; it had just one AA segment, its codeshare on RJ's AMM-JFK flight. After a couple of months, there was a schedule change, and I noticed that AA had moved me onto the RJ flight number. So I had an AA-issued ticket with no AA flights on it. I expect AA had realised how little they were going to make on that flight, decided they could do better selling that seat to someone else and so moved me to RJ.)

I don't know, but it is not uncommon
For example:
- many Caribbean island nations Oneworld Explorers are quoted in USD
- as is Tanzania's
- Russia's is quoted in Euros

I seem to recall someone mentioning upthread (or in one of the other similar threads) that it's important to have the dates of your first two flights concrete, rather than just the first one. Is that correct? If so, what is the reason?
