To get Matching status on Northwest

Hi,

Is there anyway that you can get matching status on Northwest Airlines? I am currently United Premier Exec and am Northwest Gold Elite but will lose the gold status as I haven't flown much. I have one trip coming up that will get me 25000 EQM in December, debating whether to fly on Star Alliance or Skyteam

Thanks

JumboD Nov 26, 2007 3:55 pm

It sounds like UA has gotten rid of straight up status matches in favor of challenges. However, do they still do a straight match for AA? I ask this because AA has a challenge-only policy, with the exception of UA, where they will grant a match as far up as Plt (for 1P or 1K). Also, what exactly are the terms of the UA challenge?

Really, are you sure about this?

I'd seen it noted over on the AA board that there's consideration given for UA flyers, but a direct match is absolutely denied for anyone else. Maybe it's changed.

My status match with Continental just came through. Am I going to lose this status in '08, or will they let it follow through since I didn't get it until November?

Typically if you match the second half of the year it is good all of the following year and until February of the year after. It should also say in your account when it is valid until.

Does the match on CO come with requirements like having to fly with them X number of flights within X number of days?

I didn't get a challenge. Not sure if it made a difference that I was matching my AC Super Elite status.

srodr Nov 30, 2007 6:13 pm

I'm currently NW gold and want to switch to CO gold. I know I'll have to go thru a 3rd airline and was planning to use US since my work forces me to fly them several times per year. Now I read that US isn't matching anymore? And UA and AA, which I never fly, are only doing challenges? Are there any other airlines that I could use for this switch?

the UA chalenge is 12500 ua base miles in 3 mths no J or f bonus must be base.

Any link to the challenge information on UA??? Have they scrapped their fee for doing their challenge?

Nope, since it's not a published fast track. Yep, no fees as of late for doing it, assuming you have the status on another airline so they are willing to give you a fast track.

I have AA Gold thru the challenge will i be able to use that to get status to CO anyways?

Also have SAS Silver, but haven't flown on neither really this year.

Fly CO mostly, but credited everything to Delta, but would have received a lot more points if i had used CO program, so want to start next year with 50% if possible :)

CO won't know and has no way to find out how you got AA Gold. AA status printouts. ID cards, etc., don't show that. The only things they'll care about are that you have it, how much flying you've done recently, and the chances that you'll move your future flying over - plus what their comp policy is when they look at your request, of course.

P.S. from the spelling/grammar police: there's no such word as "anyways," though admittedly lots of people use it in casual speech.

CO matched SK Silver for my husband, so at the very least, you should be able to get a match to CO Silver.

We are currently Silver Preferred on USAirways (and will be next year as well). We are moving in the spring and want to switch to United. I just want to clarify that I understand things that I have read in this thread..

I need to email United regarding doing a challenge. We will need to fly 6,250 miles on United within 90 days. We will have premiere status on United while doing the challenge. Is this all correct? What happens if we fly enough miles to qualify for the next level during the challenge (I think it would be 12,500)? Would we get upgraded to the next level or would we still have the Silver Preferred equivalent level?

How long does it usually take United to give you the status? We will be doing two round trips between PIT and SEA in Feb and March, which will be more than enough miles. I don't want to do it to early and miss the deadline to earn miles, but I don't want to wait to long either.

Neither my husband or I have United accounts now. Should we open these before asking for the challenge? All flying we have done on United in the past we have just earned USAirways miles for.

Thanks for the help!

I forgot to mention I already did a Delta match about 5 years ago, so if its true that they'll only do it once, then they're not an option. I was thinking maybe Alaska? I've never flown them but I do have an account.

Hi lmbroz,

I think it may be difficult to match US Airways Silver to United given that they are both partner carriers in the Star Alliance. Basically they don't want to "steal" customers from each other. But you may be able to convince them, not sure.

Now, provided you are able to get it, your Mileage Plus accounts (which you and your husband must sign up for and include the account numbers in the email) will immediately get upgraded to the new status and remain for 90 days. You need to fly 6250 miles within that period to keep the Premier status beyond the initial 90 days "challenge" period. And if they upgrade you to Premier (which is the likeliest from the lowest-level tier of another airline, e.g Silver), I doubt you'll be able to go to the next level (Premier Executive) by completeing 12,500 miles because you simply would not be signed up for that challenge. If you can convince them to match you and sign you up for their Premier Executive challenge, then that's a different story.

Hope this helps and Good Luck!

Regards,
Angeleno228

New AA Plat Seeking Worldperks Status Match

Should I submit my request supported by the appropriate docs before or after 1/1/08?

Shouldn't make a difference since it'll be valid till 02/09, AFAIK.

UA match from DL plat

I am DL Plat / MM; and just hit UA premier, but will end year at 40000.

I read through the last 3 months of posting, and am confused, by seeming contradictory posts.

1. Should I wait until after 1/1/08 to request match/ challange? (the quote above makes sense though)
2. Are all UA's now challange only, not matches?
3. Do they have different challange levels for Premier exec and 1k?
4. Does 1 k match/ challange still exist?
5. Will all star alliance flights count on the challange or just UA ( I probbaly have a SFO to AKL on NZ in Q1 2008).
6. Are phone requests accepted or only email, if so what # or address?

thanks much

1. I would ask for a match now. If they say yes it should be good through 02/09

2. Hard to say, but it certainly seems UA is moving more towards a fly x miles in y amount of time. I do not believe matches no longer exist at this point.

3. UA is not at a point where the challenges are spelled out like AA. Some seem to get different threshold/time levels to complete Premier and sometimes Premier Exec.

4. There is no challenge for 1k, never was.

5. Word on the street is that it is only UA/UX to qualify, but again, it depends on the individual information you will receive from UA.

6. Check the UA sticky or use search in the UA forum.

Does anyone know how to do a status match for NWA in asia? They don't have any forms or anything on their website. Is there something I fax in? Let me know. Thanks.

BHB Dec 12, 2007 5:58 pm

I'm a US Gold based in PHL, and I just requested a match from Delta, faxing them my credentials. Here's hoping...

jxrob Dec 14, 2007 7:26 pm

when i did my match with UA, they made me prem exec right away and gave me 90 days to complete 15 segments, the one nice thing about ua is that each flight counts as a elite segment, regardless of fare, and flights on usairways count as elite also. I received the elite benefits right away, which at ohare means you can access the elite security line.

I met the challlenge in less than two months and will be 1k next year due to the segments.

hope this helps

I requested a CO status match a couple of weeks ago, mailed the letter, blah blah blah..

So last weekend on my way back from an AA MR ;) (I wasn't going to AA re-qualify b/c of the status match but I decided last minute after reading CO's forum and how difficult is to get updgraded as a CO Gold), I got home and saw the official welcome to the CO Elite Program, they matched me as a Gold, so I was happy about that.

However, the card says it's valid till Feb'08. Does that make sense? How do they expect me to requalify in less than 20 days? Technically I would have till 12/31 to requalify, right? I thought that they would comp me till Feb'09 like many FTers say.

Anyone with the same situation?

Exleftseat Dec 14, 2007 11:13 pm

CO program runs like most other airlines from Feb to Feb,
with miles accumulating Jan-Dec. Although I am not sure,
so take it with a grain of salt, I would think you would
get new cards after Feb reflecting an expiration date
of Feb 2009. At this stage all cards expire Feb '08. Of
course easiest is to give them a quick call. Then you
would know for sure.
Interestingly enough, if you "re-qualify" for Gold before
Mar 1, 2008 you actually would be a Gold until Feb '10.

gleff Dec 15, 2007 4:43 am

Has anyone ever seen which programs Alaska will match against and which they won't? I know they'll match against UA, but what about their 'partners' AA/CO/DL/NW?

I sent them my credentials by fax on Tuesday and here we are Saturday morning and nothing. I wonder what went wrong? Maybe I should mail them my actual GP card (it's not worth much of anything to me)?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I know normally you can not match from DL due to sky team but if i am moving to CO city with DL has little presance do you think an exception would be made. I have been a plat and have flown over 175K this year and over 200 segments.

Any idea how?

I ended up sending a new letter and a new (i.e. legible) copy of my US Gold card, via FedEx. Does DL only update status on Saturday? I'm on DL this Thursday and would love to get a shot at UG's.

The problem with doing this is that they may tell him that he has until the end of the year to complete his challenge. The best course of action, imo, is for the OP to call Mileage Plus directly in Rapid City, SD in order to clarify/confirm the parameters of the challenge. Do a search for "Rapid City" and you should find the number in a thread i started a while back.

2. Hard to say, but it certainly seems UA is moving more towards a fly x miles in y amount of time. I do not believe matches no longer exist at this point.

That was certainly the case in 2007. [

3. UA is not at a point where the challenges are spelled out like AA. Some seem to get different threshold/time levels to complete Premier and sometimes Premier Exec.

The only "different threshold" I've heard of was through the end of the year less than 90 days out. Ie, it's typically 90 days, but if you were to have called on 11/1/07, they would have told you that you have through 12/31 in order to complete the challenge. Again, not sure that's actually true, so call the MP service center in Rapid City to confirm.

4. There is no challenge for 1k, never was.

There was a buyup program, however (although not offered this year), so that may be what he is thinking of

5. Word on the street is that it is only UA/UX to qualify, but again, it depends on the individual information you will receive from UA.

New here.

I moved to NYC this year so my NW Gold status isn't helping me out that much, so I'm moving over to DL. I put the change over off until I had a free FC ticket to Europe, which I now have so now I'm ready to switch. I was shy of Gold for 2008, probably BC I have flown on US so much. My question is will DL match my 2007 NW GE status with 2008?

Any advice?

Hi:
Could I trouble you for the Delta fax # and what info you needed to provide them with. I'd also like to request a Delta match. Thanks a lot and have a happy holiday.
Best,
