This is a great thread with heaps of handy hints :)
as a possibility

would UA even consider a status match to Prem Exec?

we are US Gold, but already have 10k miles flown this calendar year credited to UA, with another 13000 already booked (all UA metal) for the rest of the year.

In the New Year we complete the bulk of a separate Star Alliance RTW

Surely if they match , and since we have never got anything from bein US Gold when we fly UA, this might be worth taking a shot at?
specially considering we all ready have 13k+ miles booked within a 90 day time frame

Does Emirates match status?

mattm199 Sep 26, 2007 6:05 am

Great thread! I have a quick question.
I'm QF Plat/ OW Emerald, but one of the companies I deal with has switched their travel bookings to *A.
I'm booked to travel from BNE to MCO in November with UA, and will have no status (*gasp*).
I think I will try emailing and see if I can get a Status Match with UA... but do I need to create a Milage Plus account first, or will they create one if they grant a match?

Can anyone tell me if US currently enforces a "one time only" status match rule? I'm a CO platinum that was given a previous match to gold. I'd go for a UA match this time, but I don't like the "challenge" requirements.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I just hoping to hear from anyone who's done a UA Status Match recently as to how long it took using the premiermatch email address.

I've been walking a fine line, as I'm flying a few UA flights this weekend, but also have a number of UA flights right around Christmas and New Years (right near the 90-day challenge window). I sent the email requesting a status match from CO Gold to UA 1P yesterday, with a copy of my CO statement showing gold.

I had seen some older posts showing that people heard back with a response within a few hours, or a day or so.

Has anyone used that email address recently? And, if so, what was your experience?

Thanks in advance!

Mike

got mine in 2 days

Why dont you status match with BMI. you can get into all the RC lounges in the states if u get their gold and it lasts a year. the UA only lasts 3 mths.

What exactly do I need to fax DL? I hit 1P in about two weeks, but will be doing the bulk of my flying the rest of the year (and a good chunk of next year) on DL. I'll hit FO, but honestly the chances of upgrades out of LAX are very slim as FO.

Can I just print off my summary from ua.bomb? Or, do I need to wait for my 1P card (not sure how long that'll take), or even worse, wait for them to mail me the statement? There seems to be a major lag with that.

Also, do they require a challenge similar to UA's?

IsleOfMan Sep 27, 2007 6:20 pm

If your web account summary shows your status and recent flights then it should be enough. Make sure to do a test fax to another machine to make sure it's legible. It took them a week to notify me by email that my fax was not legible. I re-faxed mine with some lightening today so hopefully it will go through friday night / saturday morning.

Slightly off-topic, but I can't help chuckling a bit about the amount of faxing being done for status matches. (I contributed three pages to the global total a few weeks ago.) It has so gone away nearly everywhere else. Just last week I had to send a paper document, electronically, to a lawyer - in my experience the last bastion of this ancient* technology. He said "Can you scan it, make a PDF and attach it to an e-mail?" Of course I could, and preferred to. (Yes, you can doctor PDFs - but you can also doctor the paper document that you fax, perhaps even more easily.) I wonder if, or rather when, this will become the preferred mode of communication for FF programs - for status matches (back to the thread topic!), missing mileage credit and elsewhere?

I scanned mine as a pdf and emailed it when they informed me the fax was ilegible. They replied that they are not allowed to open attachments and i would have to re-fax it or mail it in.

Absolutely hilarious :p

IsleOfMan Sep 30, 2007 7:54 pm

I just logged into my SkyMiles account and it had been updated to Gold Medallion status. I guess the second scan was legible and everything went through. How long does it take for the new card to arrive? Also, are my booked iteneraries automaticly updated to reflect the new status, or do I need to call to have them manually updated?

Thanks :)

UA will match (via challenge) to 2P (Premier) or 1P (PremExec) statuses. They will not match to 1K, but that's moot since you're asking about 1P.

I don't know why they don't just ask for your user name and p/w. the airline can just log in to your account and check the status. there is no need for faxing back and forth. In fact it could probably be automated completely.

Generally UA will not match to 1K.

It does happen occasionally through UA sales, but highly unlikely through the normal match process.

170k miles may not do it, you either need to be working through a corporate sales rep as part of a major account or be demonstrably very high revenue.

Yes you need an account first so that they have your details. Also note that it can take up to five weeks with UA!

I mailed in my documents last week on Friday. And got an email yesterday confirming the status match. I am new 1K flier and got matched to Platinum (as requested)!
Is there a way to find out online, how long this status is valid till?

Wow-1k to CO Plat? Congrats are in order, I would think...! ^

However, I wonder how it feels when they actually require like 250k miles to get a biz award to Rome from EWR!

You can do a *A award in biz for 90k or thereabouts...

Frankly, I dont think, I will be a regular on CO. So I am not that worried about redeeming miles.
I just wanted Plat status, because I bought a CO ticket for SEA-EWR-BOM using my TY points. If I like the flight, I might continue to use the route for my 2 trips to India every year.

Since you were able to get Plat on CO, maybe you can detail or summarize what you did, so that others can receive guidance? (myself included, if I decide to go for the match and try out some CO flights.. ;) )

Same thing as mentioned in the first post (except that the mailing address has changed).

Include the following information -
1) Covering Letter - Most important! Ensure you include information about the reason, why they should give you a status match. Tell them about your plans to use Continental as your primary airline and your need to travel to cities, which are CO hubs (so that you can talk about direct flights, etc.)
Also include information like Name, Address, Phone #, OnePass #, Email address, etc.
2) A copy of your current elite status card.
3) A copy of your latest elite statement.

To thecompdude. would like to try UA 1K to CO Plat too

I would like to follow thecompdude's step to request the status match from my UA 1K to CO Plat.

Could thecompdude tell me when your new CO valid till?

I am an old 1K and this status will be expired on next Feb and I will be only 1P after that. My planning CO flights will be from NRT to BOS via IAH on 'next April'. Is it possible to get CO Plat match till the end of next April from this situation?

Thanks.

IsleOfMan Oct 17, 2007 1:01 pm

I'm pretty sure that if you get a status match any time between now and next June, your status will be gauranteed through February 2009. After next June it would be good through February 2010, but as you said, your 1K will expire this coming February, so that won't be an option.

In general status matches in the second half of the year are valid till February two years later, so I would guess CO is the same.

Might be worth looking at a post I wrote in the BD forum as particularly for short haul flying, LH/LX's programme maybe better:

Not necessarily true.

For example, my partner flys regularly in European J transiting either MUC, FRA or ZRH.

Let's use the following example (which I suspect many Euro flyers out there do): If you took 8 return flights credited in to LH that would net 100,000 including the SEN status bonus which also counts towards elite or status miles, i.e. that is

10,000 (2,500 miles per sector) x 8 x 1.25 (25 % status bonus) = 100,000

This would give you SEN status for 2 years and 100,000 miles to burn.

On BD, 8 flights on LH/LX would net you 38,400 which would also give you BD*G. This would give you 48,000 destination miles to burn on flights.

With this in mind, which programme would you pick? Yes, cash and miles would be an option to make up the short fall, but at least on LH you would not have to hand over the cash in the first place just to get the premium seat on your redemption.

The only place where BD is better is on long haul F or J.

Things of course change when you get above the 55K mark, but the above example flyer would not have reached this milestone and it would not be for another 3 return flights via FRA, MUC or ZRH that the 55K bonus would start to kick in.

Food for thought when picking a *A programme.

:)

My recent CO and UA experience

Requested status match of CO based on my AA Plat (which I got by challenge) and NW Silver. Approved in less than 24 hours to CO Gold.

Current Premier with UA and requested Premier Exec for 2008 based on current bookings (35K plus in '08), CO Gold which I just got, AA Plat, NW Silver and 12.5K booking within the next 90 days ( their match program) and 35K in booking for 2008. Denied, as I was given Premier Exec by match in 2006.

I appealed based on new home airport, now living more time near SAV than TVC.

Cordial reply repeating one time status match policy.

It is nice to see them protect their Elites, but i sure would have liked those extra RDM's for my trip to NZ in Febuary.

For some reason these airlines prefer a fax, bizarre. I would have thought the fax would have died by way of email + scanner of some sort but somehow it lives on!

Although I'm not sure about the fax number, I do know that US now offers individuals to pay for status and that if you meet their challenge requirements in a certain number of days (x miles in 90 days), you keep the status for an entire year. I think you can either call or email the DM customer service in order to sign up for this...
