I know you're supposed to wait 6 months before canceling, but I haven't heard of anyone applying for new checking accounts when they already had other accounts already open.

You don't need to close an account before applying for another one. I just opened up another one this year with last year's account still having another 2 months to go before its 6-month life span comes to an end.

Talk to OnePass and they will combine them under one number.

It looks like Chase used my father's OnePass account rather than mine own since we have the same first/last name and address. I think I'll call Chase and hope I can sort it out.

Rebuked for attempting opening 2nd account...

Looking for recommendations (perhaps even personal experience) from the FT community. All feedback appreciated...

I opened a personal and business account in Sep '09 via FTG's contact, and have fulfilled the bonus requirements. I also have the BA Visa, which has been my primary card lately. Accounts are still open. Chase doesn't have a footprint in my home state.

Visited a branch in FL during vacation, identified myself as a current Chase customer, looking to open two more accounts with certificates.

After initial processing, the CSR left the cubicle, and returned ~20 min later with assistant branch manager. She informed me that Chase is in the business of building 'relationships', that my accounts didn't look like they were being used to their full potential, and that there were not interested in opening any more accounts.

So... my potential courses of action are 1. give up (not likely), 2. call the 1-800 and attempt to apply (though I read a printout of notes the initial CSR made in the computer to the effect of 'minimal account use), or 3. write 'the letter' to corporate, and ask what level of 'relationship' they'd like?

or, if someone can PM me with a Chase banker who is interested, I'm willing to keep all accounts open 6 months, add direct deposit, and use them regularily.

Thanks!

Perhaps if you didn't try to open both account at the same time? Don't know if you also canceled your other accounts from '09 with the same banker. That would set off flags.

You should spread it out.

Sorry- forgot to mention that I did try, multiple times/days. Kept getting error code following funding screen. Error code 807- or something similar.

The process did recognize the certificate correctly (10k and 15k miles).

Has anyone had the problem of online purchases going through as debit?

I made one purchase through PayPal and one at a vending machine that takes cards. Both purchases are showing up on the Chase website as "debit" purchases even though both were pinless.

It always shows as debit whether it's pin-based or signature-based. As long as you did not use your pin you are OK.

It probably says debit because it is a debit card, but I think it will always be a credit transaction unless you use your pin. On my statement it says that all purchases shown with CA* earn miles so make sure this is the case. Looking online it appears that the CA* doesn't show up while a purchase is still pending.

Do miles post at the end of each statement?

As TAHKUCT says, yes, but it takes a few days. My latest miles posted 3/2/10 with a 2/27/10 date and a 2/27/10 Chase statement closing date.

Thanks a lot for the 2010 mileathon news. When I saw your post, I jumped, searched, and found the 2010 mileathon. I have been holding off to open the accounts only to wait for mileathon to come back. My patience pays off. Ready to pocket some extra miles (assuming the deadline will get extended).

I searched the summer 2009 Mileathon threads and saw this question, but didn't see an answer. Does anyone know how they worked the last mileathon bonus: did you only get one bonus for a single checking account (i.e. Personal), or did you get two bonuses - one for the Business Account and one for the Personal Account? Two would be max as that is your account limit for each calendar year (1 Per & 1 Bus). And for the answer to apply for the new mileathon it would assume the current 3/31/10 date gets pushed back and the new mileathon T&C's are similar.

btw, your mmv but i received 40 points for 2 personals and 20 for biz

I signed up online in January. Chase created a new OnePass number for me instead of using my old one. I made 5 purchases on my debit card during the last week in February, and 22,500 miles posted to my new OnePass account on 3/1. Very quick.

Now I just have to get my two OnePass accounts combined.
