Any trick to the dbldip or was it just a shot in the dark that worked?

Shot in the dark. I figured the promotion was ending so I had nothing to loose by giving it another try. All I can figure is since my last personal account was opened in January and closed in August, some amount of time had lapsed with no personal account.

Was your biz account open when U opened a new personal checking in September?

You're way ahead of me. I opened mine over a month ago, and I've only got the 10K so far . . .

Yes. My second business account was opened in April and remains open to this date. I opened that account a week or two before they added the language against existing account holders but from April until August I had 2 personal and two business accounts all open concurrently. I have however had no personal accounts open since August.

For a total of 125K miles when you get the balance ... enough for RT business class ticket to SE Asia ... well done!

Did you open your last personal account online or in a branch? Also did you get both tracking numbers for 10k and 12.5 miles?

Do they pull your credit history to open checking account?

I opened the last personal account on-line and I 'think' I got the tracking numbers for both rewards. I say I 'think' because I printed the last page after the account was opened and it says "Your coupon reward(s): 10,000 Continental Miles, 15,000 Continental Miles" and had the "Print Now" button to click for "Coupon Receipt" but just then I got called away from my desk and when I returned the page had timed out so I never actually printed the receipt or saw the tracking numbers.

Both the second personal account(also on-line) and the second business account(in branch) failed to post without intervention but were easily resolved by calling the 1-877-292-4273 number. Online secure mail and the regular customer service number were useless in that regard.

Another issue that came up on my second business account but that I now wonder if it may have inadvertently helped me with the third personal account is the "first 7 digits of the coupon code must be unique" issue that I discussed here.

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/miles...l#post13936029

It was absolutely instrumental in me being able to open my second business account since the rep in the branch was a competent and determined guy but could not get his system to accept my valid newly printed coupon until I produced one from the different link. It is not the same as just printing a new coupon where the last numbers are unique.

The "unique first 7 digits" links for business accounts are in the above referenced post.

The "unique first 7 digits" links for personal accounts are below.

I do not know that that played any role in my latest personal account but print one coupon from each link and if the system wont accept or acknowledge one, try the other.

How is the best way to close an existing account? Also does one have to wait six months to the day to close it? I certainly don't want to lose my miles. I am new to this, glad I have started though. Love those miles! Thanks in advance for the information. FT rocks!!

friedice Oct 15, 2010 7:07 pm

Mabuk dan gila,

Thanks, for the explanation. I was thinking of closing my personal tomorrow and opening a new one right before the deadline in couple weeks. We'll see what happens.

BTW, the first 4 digits in each of the links are always 3678.

I had a Chase checking account (non CO acct). I closed via phone call. They said it can take 2 business days to close completely. Three business days later I opened the Chase CO airlines account and got my 25,000 miles 4 weeks later. Just make sure you wait long enough for the account to close completely.

Is it a necessity to close a long standing Chase checking account?

According to the T&C you wouldn't qualify but YMMV. It's recent that they added that langauge. In the past I just opened a second account for the miles with no problems.
