I figured I could justify myself as a collector by saying I look for rarities, and this batch didn't have any.

I've used these to pay parking fines, and other random expenses (like import duties on my car).

Yes. Rather than go to the cashier though, I go to the dollar slot machines at the casinos that take them, dump a few hundred dollars, bet $1, cash out, and deposit the bills.

I've made about $17 since I started doing that.

Luckily, I have a local bank (Capital One Bank) in the DC area that has a coin counting machine and I do it that way. If I made the coin purchase with my Venture card, I just use the coin counter total to pay the credit card directly. Easy peasy!

Do the machines have a limit?

Another member said they fill up at around 2k, depending on the machine more. The thing is you don't know how many are in there already so it may fill up way faster. There are different brands he mentioned it I can't remember.

I think it will be a hassle because if they fill up you are screwed and have to probably come back at another time. My local credit union has one, I've used it for my first batch of only $250 and I will use it if I get any .... from my other banks. Chase and BoA said they do not have those at any locations in Fl...

Why would you be screwed? You ask the teller to change out the bag. It takes abouit 2 min and your'e back in business.

It's not as if they leave the machine out of service until the end of the day

I just know the TD bank ones have a $100 limit...its simply not practical to use the machine for that. $2k is much better though

Thanks for the info, I was just going to ask about TD bank. The associates and branch manager at my TD do like me so one of these days I'll casually ask about depositing coins. My story will be that I have no idea where they come from, they belong to my husband.

generally, banks with machines want you to use them and someone will come out to help with jams and fills.

once you get your ticket with a total they will not ask questions and you can walk out with cash in hand. Some banks I use do not need you to have an account there--although I do. It is not asked for when I want my cash from coins.

banks that have machines that do not take $1s or have a limit on how many they fit will gladly accept the rolls.

Some banks I have been to have seen me before and now all they actually want is the unopened small boxes from me! I'm in and out of there very quickly. After all, they can choose to credit my account or not. But of course it's always immediate.

I'm still a small time player in the coin world. (Just did one order to top off an account a couple months ago.)

We've been using them for Craiglist purchases. I always cringe when my wife pulls out her bag-o-coins to pay the guy, even as much as $100-$200. Most people don't seem to care, but occasionally you get a grumble. But equally often you get someone that says 'wow, these are cool -- I'm going to hang onto them!'

Does anyone have experience with any banks in Seattle having coin machines that work well for this?

I am a small time player. I only order $500 at a time. I use Wachovia to deposit them. They take rolled coins with no hassle. They actually appreciate it. If a teller does ask, I say that I have to order at least $500 to get free shipping from the mint. I only needed $25... . I always keep one roll from each batch to pay the cleaners and for tips.
