taxes
I pay my car and property taxes with them...it's not pennies but giving the tax man 20 pounds of coins and watching them freak out is worth the hassle.
When anyone asks where I get all those coins, I tell them the truth "the mint", that two word answer usually suffices.

If one wants the Moderator notice something, one needs to send them an alert.
I just did, by clicking the exclamation sign on the bottom left hand corner of the first post to ask Mod to merge this redundant thread to the long coin thread.

I take mine in a wheelbarrow...
Have you tried any methods that have been unsuccessful? just tell your bank your going to bring in many coins.
It is highly discouraged to lie about what your doing as if you say the wrong things it may be a crime.

Some lines that tellers enjoy:
My friend is paying me back in the most A-hole way possible.
I collect them, but only needed two.
A contractor offered a cash discount, but would rather take a card when he saw them.

Moderator: Time to deep six this thread which is just a repetition of the infamously long Mint Coins thread.
This is exactly what I was hoping for! I love it.

Teller: Where did you get all these?
Me (any variety of these):
Why do you ask?
They're nice, right?
I had them at home.
I'm a collector.
Sometimes, I can stack these answers as well.

In the UK there is a bank in London called Metrobank that provides a coin changer no qualms as it should be. I think that bank is unique though.
For smaller amounts the public mostly still try to offload in use as normal currency (of course!!). Tesco tries to stop this, as does ASDA. But it seems to be cashier descretion and no set amount.
In many supermarkets we have a company called coinstar who have vending machine type things. They started off with a fee of 7%. That's now moved up to 8.9% last I checked. I tend to use a combination of that and offloading anything above 50p.
Merchants I think make use of companies I think to sort the change as well as provide it.
People moan about this but it could be worse. In Argentina their `quantitative easing` was done mostly by printing paper notes. Too tight to make new coins. As a result there's a lack of coins, especially $1 peso coins. So everytime you go to buy something you end up jostling over that 1 peso coin. You'd think with all that people would startup local currencies but I guess the Spanish language hasn't heard about that.

Yup, took a bunch to vegas. Most casinos don't use coins any more, the few that do really don't like taking the coins, and refused to take more than 500-1000.
There counter's were also off by around 5%.
