Transferring Mileage?
My spouse passed away and had three ff accounts - Delta, American, and USAIR. Does anyone know if this circumstance allows for the transfer of the miles/points in each account to my accounts? I hesitate to call each carrier and ask, because I am afraid they might just cancel out all of his miles. I realize I could get tickets in my name, but I would much prefer to transfer and then use them when I needed to go somewhere and the fares would be excessive. Thanks for whatever advice you might have.

First, my condolences.
Second, AA will, not sure about the others, but I'll be surprised if they dont.
If they dont, I would probably use your spouses account to buy tickets or transfer them into another program before closing the accounts.

Transferring mileage
I made a post a week or so ago that queried if anyone knew if the airlines would credit my deceased husband's frequent flyer miles to my account (did not want to ask them - if answer were no - I would have probably had to have a ticket issued or lost them).
I am DELIGHTED to report that the carrier that facilitated the transfer with the least amount of hoop jumping and the greatest concern for seeing that it was done quickly was DELTA SKYMILES - yes - DELTA
USAir was also helpful - one more hoop and it will be done. Understandable because everything had to be done snail mail.
AMERICAN - well, to quote from their Email to me:
"On behalf of American Airlines, let me express our sincere condolences on your loss. During this difficult time, we will do our utmost to assist you.
The mileage remaining in this account may be transferred to one or more accounts of beneficiaries. Please follow these steps:
1. Print out the attached affidavit, fill in the required information and sign the affidavit (notarized signature is not required).
2. FAX the following to us at (817) 963-7882:
The signed affidavit
A photocopy of the Death Certificate (need not be a certified copy)
Payment of the $50 administrative charge (payable only by credit card or by debit card with VISA or MC logo)
End quote
Ah well, charges for this, charges for that, and charges for condolences and utmost assistance.

You may want to call back AA on this....my mom had a similar experience last year. When she called back, she happened to say that she would be getting a Citibank AAdvantage card to add more miles to the account since she needed to get credit in her name (OK, a lie). The only thing that she had to do then was sign an affadavit and provide a copy of the death certificate by fax. Miles transferred within a week.
Best of luck with everything in what I know is a difficult time.

Thanks for your reply and suggestion. I paid the $50, but I posted about it because I think it is pretty ridiculous to offer condolences and to make everything about the transfer nice and easy, only to ask for a credit card payment to get it done. Not so nice IMO.

We recently transferred a deceased family member's AA miles, paying the $50 fee. Under the Terms & Conditions of the AAdvantage program, miles are not transferable upon death. We appreciated that we got a benefit to which we were not legally entitled. $50 seemed like a small price to pay not to lose those miles.

Note, however, AA is the only carrier who has this policy. Yes, I am glad to have not lost the miles in hubby's account, even OK with the $50 fee; however, I think it is rather untoward to offer condolences, state ease of transaction, and then ask for money. It does not erase the sting in my opinion; it simply makes AA look foolish and insincere. It is no different really than saying " we are pleased to have allowed one carry on for storage in the overhead" and then stating - oh yes, btw, there is a $100 fee to do so.

In coupon connection it is against the TOS to sell miles.

IIRC, selling miles violates the terms in all FFPs that I know.
A bad advice. I strongly advise against using Points.com for OP.
The fees associated with Points.com makes it too costly and undesirable. If you perform a search about using Points.com in MilesBuzz! Forum, you'll find why Points.com is not popular among savvy FTers.
You also seem to not understand how much it cost to transfer miles between accounts. Just check out any FFP of your choice and see how much the airline charges for mile transfers.
FWIW, OP's situation is clear and simple. IMHO, she has much better options to get what she needs/wants than going through Points.com.
