A flight cancellation made by the airline should entitle the traveler to a full refund for the whole trip, for what I know.

It's the way it reads. None of nancy's flights have been taken as flights not till the 22nd April so nancy's entitled to a full refund.

By right either reroute, postpone OR refund. Not both or all!
So you got lucky. But for future reference, also applies in the case of error fare, try not to push too much.
As the folks travelling beyond May/June etc might not have much flexibility when this goes around for too long.
By them, Their only option is either postpone or refund. Which would destruct their travelling plan!

The Italian policy as I understand it is that you have to make the change in the 48 hours before departure - were you able to make the change longer in advance without any problems?

I remember that after this new law was introduced, many people bought promotional Lufthansa tickets from MXP to NYC and massively
called LH to drop the first segment from the itinerary.....
Am I correct or something changed since then? If it's still in power, then we'd be able to cancel the BLQ-HEL and keep the rest of the ticket...?
I am writing that cause it seems that every AY agent states different rules of the ticket change.
Some airlines have pages on their websites (eg Qatar) explaining how to use the Italian rule but I haven't seen anything from Finnair and apart from mster haven't found any confirmation one way or the other whether the right has successfully been used with AY.

Got a very different answer from their media team to what their CS team are providing...

I asked:

As part of the launch campaign of this new route from Bologna, AY offered fares to Hong Kong as well as Guangzhou.

Obviously Guangzhou is cancelled but why are Finnair still selling tickets and not rerouting customers who hold BLQ-HEL-HKG even though IATA travel notices updates on the 1st of March state anyone arriving in Hong Kong from Bologna, Milan, Venice, Verona will be refused entry into Hong Kong.

Appreciate comment why Finnair are not updating ticketing/travel policy in line with IATA travel advisories.“

Finnair Media response:

”Thank you for your message. It is complicated to remove the fares from the system for specific routes and limited time periods – the situation is very dynamic, new restrictions are introduced, there is no clarity on how long these last.

However, we do have a customer policy in place, which offers free rerouting or full refund for all customers who are unable to travel due to entry/transit restrictions set by local authorities.”

a huge contradiction to what Finnair Customer relations are saying:

which ranges from:

“A change of flight route is not possible to arrange with this Corona virus policy. We can either check for new flight schedules (Return flights must be flown the latest 30 June 2020) or you could cancel the booking and receive a full refund (A partial refund is also possible, if you would prefer to cancel either the flights on 8 April or 15 April).

Also (According to the policy at the moment), if you would prefer a change of flight date, the stay at Hong Kong would need to be a minimum of 14 days. Let me know how you would prefer to proceed with this matter.“

to what I got this morning asking the same question about changing origin/reroutes:

“Hi Lindsay,
tickets with flights on 31st of March or earlier. Flights after that are changed and refunded within ticket rules. Unfortunately your ticket does not allow changes or have refund.

We are monitoring the situation closely and will inform all changes to policies in here: https://www.finnair.com/en/flight-in...ravel-updates”

I'm not surprised regarding the different answers from team to team and from agent to agent.
However, may I suggest to add, to this kind of posts, when one is supposed to travel / the original dates for the ticket? Because if you, flylikelinz, were supposed to travel in April, the last answer you got is incorrect.

We will operate our Hong Kong flights AY099/100 normally, but if you have a Finnair ticket issued before 04 March 2020 to/from Hong Kong for travel latest on 30 April 2020 you can, if you so wish:
If you wish to make changes to your flights and choose a later date for your travel, please contact Finnair Customer Service or your travel agency. We are at your service also on Twitter @FinnairHelps, on our Facebook pages and via chat on finnair.com. We are sorry that our customer service is congested.

I just called Expedia and successfully rebooked my flight. My original booking was HAJ - HEL - CAN from mid April to the beginning of May. I was able to change my flight to TXL - HEL - HKG with a postponement to the end of April and extension of my stay.

Just got an email from Finnair

"Your flight AY102 XX Apr 2020 is unfortunately cancelled. We are sorry for the inconvenience. We have booked you the best possible alternative flight."

The cancelled flights are:
  • All flights to/from Beijing Capital Airport, Shanghai, Beijing Daxing, Nanjing, Guangzhou and Xi’an until the end of April 2020.
  • AY102/101 flights between Helsinki and Hong Kong until the end of April 2020. We continue to operate flights AY099/100 between Helsinki and Hong Kong normally.
You can choose from the following options if your flight is cancelled:
  • Change your travel until 30 June 2020.
  • We do our best to re-route you to your destination.
  • You can apply for a refund for the unused part of your flight ticket and the purchased travel extras.
We will operate our Hong Kong flights AY099/100 normally, but if you have a Finnair ticket issued before 04 March 2020 to/from Hong Kong for travel latest on 30 April 2020 you can, if you so wish:

Looks like they bumped the flight window for changes by a month until the end of April but they didn't bump the window for completion of travel - travel still needs to be completed by end of June.

I hold a BLQ-HEL-HKG booking for mid to end April.

So if I understand correctly, in this case I can reroute my origin point OR postpone my original route, but not both at the same time?

Edit: I'm outbound on AY101. Seems I have to get in touch with them anyway due to the cancellation of 101/102 until end of April.

This is still on my to do list, are people calling in or is there some kind of web option? And can you speak to AY even if booked through Expedia?
