I've asked Finnair for an update since my last correspondence 29th January and this is their (much softer) response today:
'Hi!
Currently (When flying on this flight route [STR-CAN] and time period) the possible changes or refunds are checked with the original ticket's rules. The ticket is non-changeable and non-refundable, so changes can't be made and in case of a cancellation there is no refund, I'm sorry to say. But there might be a tax refund, if you would cancel the booking before the first flight's departure (I would recommend to contact your travel agency, if you would prefer to do the cancellation). If you would prefer to fly with another flight schedule, a new reservation would have to be made. Also note that if a flight is left unused, the rest of the flights on the same ticket will be automatically cancelled. However, it is possible that the policy regarding the Corona virus can change as time goes on, you can check the policy from time to time via this link: https://finnair.com/fi/gb/flightinfo…'
Anyway I've checked my receipt booked via Expedia.de and it says the flight was 51 euros and taxes and fees 505.51 euros. Be interested in people's thoughts....

Have people recently been able to get HEL-CAN flights changed to HEL-HKG ?
I am booked to fly STR-HEL-CAN in early May. Assuming the cancellations get extended into May, I would prefer to still fly but switch to STR-HEL-HKG similar dates. I saw comments earlier that this was an option, any thoughts on whether I can rely on this? Booked via expedia.com if that makes a difference.

From what I’ve understood, you could insist on them rebooking on another airline. Given that, I guess they’d be happy to rebook you on one of their empty HKG flights.
I think I’ll actually ask for my CAN flight tomorrow to be rebooked into early May, hoping they’ll let me push it back further eventually.

Does anyone know if Finnair will / can do this for agency issued tickets, or if you have to deal with agency (expedia for me). I guess in that case it's much harder to persuade them as they will have fixed rules.....?

As far as I’ve understood, Finnair can take control of the tickets, but they usually don’t want to. They want you to go through the agency. That means that the travel agency needs to contact Finnair and ask them for an exception.

I'm still waiting to see any confirmation of cancellation on my itinerary for AY101 HEL-HKG on 29th April... as well for the BLQ-HEL flight on same date, apparently not bookable anymore.
