Wow, I wish someone else had asked that in the past. ;)

bigguyinpasadena, unfortunately I think the lack of promotions, EEOs, etc. are a sign of the times. The drop in business in the years following 9/11/2000 resulted in some really awesome promotions (double points/double nights comes to mind), absolutely incredible hotel rates, etc. We got spoiled, or at least I know I did. No more $200 + or - rates at the Vail Marriott during ski season, now its $439/night. Now that hotels are running full the offers seem to be less frequent and not as good. I agree with you that we deserve better. I wonder if a similar scenario playing out at other chains? Do they have fewer promos? Does SPG have anything similar to EEOs? As an SPG Gold (free) I have never received anything like EEOs, only targeted offers once or twice a year for package rates at a particular hotel, and usually the rates aren't that great.

Now, the real bad news.... My guess is that we will not see the double points promo of previous years for the reason stated above and also because it was run every other year and since it was run last year, it would not this year if history repeats itself. Not to mention if we were going to see it, it would have started by now. See this link for a more details. I can't wait for next year, although with packed hotels the hope of that happening again may be fleeting.

Were EEOs, double points, and other promos around prior to the downturn following 9/11? If not, then it only makes sense that they may be doomed now that hotels occupancy rates are at all time highs? Not a pleasant thought, but it may be reality. IMO, EEO weekend offers and weekend rates that earn BB/PP should not be as hotels still have plenty of excess rooms on weekends.

Just placed a call to the Elite desk and they told me that they offers had been mailed out and that they were posted online.

I asked the person to walk me through finding them online since they were not showing up under elite offers and she said that they were posted under deals and they were available to everyone.

Obviously they don't know whats going on.... :(

AAUpgrade since I am only gold(earned)but about to become plat(25 nights of revenue that Marriott lost because of it's lack of promos)I have not seen anything like EEO promos on *wood. They have been running excellent promos this year and I find the SPG customer service to be superior to that of MR.
Also SPG is a lot easier to deal with when it comes to dealing with rewards-and is that not what this game is all about?
So yes,I will make gold on MR again this year, but unless there is a real turnaround in recognition of MR elites I will not be trying to make it for 2007.

Yes, I fully understand your sentiments and ultimately that may be the consequence of their actions with numerous customers. My guess is the same will happen at the other programs too. If things were perfect at any Hotel frequent stay program then we would all be members there.

While I love Westin properties, especially like the 50% SPG award, and marginally agree with your assessment that their program is easier to deal with (I assume you mean award availability not being capacity controlled). SPG's earning to use ratio, especially when using the MR Premier Visa is not as good as Marriott's, their Sheraton properties have been variable at best and less than acceptable in my personal experience, and Marriott's are more plentiful than acceptable SPG properties IME. So while the frequent stay program is definitely an important feature, it is not the most important. The most important for me is a consistent product in places I frequent AND a good frequent stay program. Marriott meets those qualifications for me and SPG does not, YMMV. As a case in point, I have had absolutely no problem getting standard awards at Marriott properties: 3 weeks at Vail Marriott during ski season, 4-6 day stays at Paris Marriott, London Ren CC, HKG JW Marriott, Sydney Marriott and that was all booked within the past 10 months. I do plan in advance and Marriott's program works best for those that do.

This is what I have been waiting for?

My first offers have finally arrived (New Gold Elite Member), after I have already made all my known reservation needs for the rest of the year - and the offers are only good until January 14, 2007.

Unless this can be used with the Elite rates (M11) I don't see how I can use it. Some of my destinations are already sold out and no longer taking reservations. It is not clear from these terms whether we can get the second night free with the M11 rate bookings:

10. Offer may be booked with any publicly listed room rate.

11. Offer cannot be combined with any other discount rates (except rates mentioned in line item #10), certificates, coupons, Advance Purchase, government, negotiated corporate, or group convention rate for Friday, Saturday, or Sunday night stays.
I do assume from this language that bookings are not eligible for this offer if you use rates like entertainment and AAA - they rarely do, but are technically suppose to ask for a membership card with these rates.

Volvic, it is true that the EEOs are generally for properties in the United States. From my experience, that has always been the case.

Let's see...These are quarterly offers. By my math, that is only 11 days shy of an entire quarter. How long were you expecting they might last?

Very true for Marriott. Less true for Renaissance. I know that some UK properties have been included in the past.

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but...

Chris, certainly not blaming you (and I'm sure you won't be happy to have to address this issue once more), but regarding from the following thread entitled

"Marriott Concierge - EEO Redemption & Handling; There's Got To Be A Better Way " (Screen 4, Entry 48, 5/24/06)

(I tried posting the URL but for some reason it wouldn't interpert. However entering EEOs in "Search" will cause it to appear midway in a string of thread listings.)

In any case -

Not surprisingly, this remedy had been suggested some time ago on Flyertalk, and we thank you, as always, for the critiques and suggestions. Issues raised in these forums are given serious consideration because, after all, no one has more practical experience using Marriott products and services than all of you.

I am hopeful that the additional directives on forthcoming E.E.O.'s will make them more "user-friendly", and I also hope you will continue to report any problems encountered while using them. In the short term, should you have any type of billing issue with a hotel, our reservation customer service offices would happy to assist with it.

Thanks to you all for your business and loyalty to Marriott, and an extra thanks for your candor on this topic. I cannot stress enough how highly your opinions are regarded on these matters. I apologize again for the problems that many of you have experienced, and I am at your disposal if you have further questions or concerns.

Best Regards,

I just printed an online version of the Marriott/JW Marriott Weekend Escape - free second night EEO that appeared this AM and unless I'm missing something (and I apologize if I have), there are no processing instructions for hotels appearing on it.

Unless there have been instructions created that front desk associates can easily access at check-in I'm afraid we're probably in for more of the same aggravation that prompted me to originate the referenced thread.

Please tell us that the hard-copy EEOs that are in the mail will have those instructions. (And in the future can those instructions be included in online equivalents?)

Many thanks.
