How do you know which properties do and do not participate if the list is not accurate?

The list is accurate.

The CSR gave you the wrong info.

The problem isn't that Desert Springs, A JW Marriott Resort & Spa in Palm Desert, CA is a JW Marriott or that it is excluded from the list. The problem is that it is a RESORT. The T&C explicitely states in #3 U.S. Marriott and JW Marriott resorts do not participate in this offer - the key word there being RESORT. My guess is that the B1G1 will work fine at the JW Marriott in San Francisco, Washington DC, or other non-resort JW Marriott hotels.

So is the appearance of the word "Resort" in a hotel's name an entirely reliable indicator of whether they do or do not participate - i.e., there will be no false positives or false negatives by assuming that any hotel that has the word "Resort" in its name does not participate in promotions like this?

Note to Marriott (I think there is a guy named Chris that reads and posts here):
If this is the case, and there is such a distinction made between Marriott resorts and Marriott non-resort hotels, then why don't you make it possible to search separately for resort and non-resort properties on the Marriott website? This would be a nice feature.

Also, while I am at it, please bring back two options that were recently removed from Marriott.com:

1. The ability to make searches for different radii (it is maddening that one can no longer choose the distance from your search point that you want to look at).

2. The ability to search for any combination of Marriott brands that you desire to at once (e.g., Residence Inns and Townplace Suites at the same time).

GrizShel, this page provides a list of every resort in the Marriott system.

As another poster mentions, Marriott does have a whole area of their website devoted just to their resort properties. So it is possible to find them and search based only on them. But I would agree that it would be nice to integrate the two search capabilities. As for the question of whether this is a "reliable" list. I would guess that any Marriott not on that list would definitely provide breakfast and other required elite perks.

But your question also has a flip side and that is whether every resort would NOT provide breakfast. And I have stayed at some of the listed properties in the past and been provided breakfast. And to me that is not a problem or an issue. Any hotel should be allowed to go above and beyond the services required by the rules, should they choose to do so. Just because one or two would choose to do so, does not "require" the others to follow suit.

Now the question of whether or not the Rules should provide an exclusion for resort hotels is a different beast totally and a different discussion.

Nope-no processing instructions! Why would you think Marriott would listen to it's most important guests?Just another example of their indifference.
Please remember this indifference when the voting for the freddies comes around.

Here's why:

Check this thread: Marriott Concierge - EEO Redemption & Handling: There's Got To Be A Better Way

Its' URL is http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...iott+Concierge

In the OP (12/2/05) I sugggested via a lengthy, detailed outline a way of addressing the long-standing problem of properties not knowing how to process B1G1 free weekend night EEOs which resulted in hassles being visited upon MR Gold and Plat elites..

In the same thread, in Post #48 dated 5/24/06 Chris responded as follows:

"Firstly, my apologies to everyone for the delay on this topic and for the difficulties you've encountered. We wanted to collect as much data as possible from the last E.E.O. mailing, and I'm pleased to report that those efforts have allowed us to create processing instructions for hotels, which will be added to future versions of the offers. Not surprisingly, this remedy had been suggested some time ago on Flyertalk, and we thank you, as always, for the critiques and suggestions. Issues raised in these forums are given serious consideration because, after all, no one has more practical experience using Marriott products and services than all of you.

"I am hopeful that the additional directives on forthcoming E.E.O.'s will make them more "user-friendly", and I also hope you will continue to report any problems encountered while using them. In the short term, should you have any type of billing issue with a hotel, our reservation customer service offices would happy to assist with it.

"Thanks to you all for your business and loyalty to Marriott, and an extra thanks for your candor on this topic. I cannot stress enough how highly your opinions are regarded on these matters. I apologize again for the problems that many of you have experienced, and I am at your disposal if you have further questions or concerns.

"Best Regards,"

The only thing left, I suppose is to escalate to Mr. M.

For the present (at least), steel yourself for another series of hassles at check-in and check-out when you try to use these things.

Received my EEO booklet today.

VA1379 Nov 15, 2006 8:12 am

I was at the Renaissance LAX this past weekend and had a four night reservation. I broke it up into two 2 night reservations, with the first one qualifying for a $100 Savvy Savings coupon and the second one using an EEO coupon. Since I had not received the booklet, I printed out the coupon online.

I had no problems at checkin or when I received my bill (although I got 2 bills since they did not link the reservations together). My trouble occurred when I checked out to get the Savvy Savings coupon. The guy said that my printout was not acceptable. I asked to see the certificate and saw that the prior clerk had circled this on the first page: "3. Print this page as your certificate and surrender at check-in." After showing that to the guy, he grumbled and let me go.

Chris, this difficulty with EEOs stands out like a sore thumb. I got upgraded to a suite for my stay, found the valets to be courteous and effective (one of them took off like a bat to retrieve my cell phone from my car), and enjoyed the food and service provided by the concierge lounge.

Havent gotten mine in the mail as yet, nor can I get to them by Logging-in Online. Never had a problem being able to see them on line, anyone know whats up?
