Legacy to New Travel Package Conversion (effective August 2019)
A Marriott supervisor can currently convert your legacy travel package into the new category mapping. If you hold a Category 6, 8, or Tier 1-3 legacy certificate, it's ideal to downgrade your certificate before converting so that points don't potentially get lost in the process.
The codes for the new partial packages are:
New Cat 1-4: QP83
New Cat 5: QP91
New Cat 6: QP99
New Cat 7:
The legacy certificates map to the new certificates as such:
Cat 1-5 => Cat 1-4
Cat 6 => Cat 1-4
Cat 7 => Cat 5
Cat 8 => Cat 5
Cat 9 => Cat 6
Tier 1-3 => Cat 6
Tier 4-5 => Cat 7
==================================================
If you are unsure where you will use your 7 night stay, when you request the package, just ask for a category 1-5 hotel. That way you are out of the least number of points. If later, you decide to book for a higher level category, then you can do so and pay the difference the travel package points. If you can't use your certificate within the year, then as close to the one year anniversary (without going over!) call to extend the certificate for one more year. That's as long as they will typically allow, one extension. There is an option to expedite the mileage delivery to within three business days (sometimes faster) for $15. There are reports that this fee may be waived for platinum members.
Effective April 1 2017 re: Southwest & the companion pass:
"Purchased points, points converted from hotel and car loyalty programs, and e-Rewards, e-Miles, Valued Opinions and Diners Club, points earned from Rapid Rewards program enrollment, tier bonuses, flight bonuses, and partner bonuses (excluding points bonuses earned on the Rapid Rewards Credit Cards from Chase) do not count toward Companion Pass."

I know there's a lot of speculation as to what will happen to the certificates once the merger happens. I'm curious as to whether or not the certificates will be transferrable within a household, much like SPG points can be transferred today. I am debating purchasing another package for my wife to bump up her AA miles, but since she has no status I have no desire to actually make a hotel reservation in her name. Thoughts?
Or, has anyone had success transferring airline miles via marriott to someone else's AA account?

As for transferring airline miles into someone else's account, we have not been able to do that (at least not directly) and I also don't see that changing with the new program. Historically, the way around that is through the transfer of points to the other person's account. Since Marriott will allow more than 50K point transfers when ordering an award, you could do so when ordering a TP award and thus get the airline miles into the other person's account.

Apparently this is only for upgrading an existing package. It might get resolved within 48 hours. I was holding a CAT 6 and was thinking about a CAT 8. However, not too sure - they might mess this up in the last few minutes.

Not trying to get you freaked out but I ordered one on Monday and the miles were deposited on Wednesday (best as I can recollect being halfway around the world). And this was the longest I've waited.

Had a good experience last night ordering a cat 8 with 120,000 AA miles (for an Etihad redemption). I waited for 25 minutes on hold after calling the 801 number and saying "points balance". The rep that answered knew exactly what to do, asked for my MR number, my AA number and that was that.

How come some people without Vacation Club are still able to get 5-night packages while others can't ??

Re UA miles. I ordered my package on July 24th, and the miles just posted in my account today. Seems odd that some people seem to get them within 24 hours and others are taking longer - but the moral seems to be don't freak out if they don't post right away

As a heads up to those attempting to purchase travel packages, I'd recommend doing it sooner rather than later. It took me almost a week to order a package because my VS number was "invalid according to the system".
They finally resolved the bug in their system (at least for my account), but now the miles won't post on VS (supposed to be < 3 days, per phone reps). Their teams are investigating it, but I imagine they're overrun with requests / issues. A supervisor indicated to me that this is a widespread issue (on both the VS number side, and on miles not posting).
Anyone else experience something like this? Beyond frustrating...
