Then there in lies your problem :) If you compare the 'staffers' statements, about PP specifically, they are all over the board. Some are more correct than others. If you refer back to one of my posts about the PP Forumula , I believe it's on page 10/11 of this thread- Socrates quoted my post and simply said "Very accurate" or something along that nature.

:) Let's just say I've been around a long time, if I said it was very accurate then it is :D

Realize though they have not and will not share the exact requirements with anyone outside of MR which is why you receive the various different answers (no I personally dont know the "exact" requirements either and I would never share any proprietary knowledge I have even though I'm retired from MI)

It is funny, I am not a PP, but I have been a Platinum for 7 years, with my peak year being 105 nights, and I get upgrades regularly, but I have to ask for them! Sometimes I ask for them when I check in, but if I really want an upgrade for a longer stay on a business trip, I call ahead of my arrival, sometimes as much as two or three months before arrival. In the SFO Marriott in July 2005, while attending a professional conference and staying for 9 nights, I called two months in advance, and ended up with the Presidential Suite (1 1/2 baths, huge living room, huge dining room, huge foyer, huge office/television area, huge bedroom, two wet bars, two huge balconies, over 2500 square feet!) In the San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter in February 2006, I called four months in advance and got the second largest suite in the hotel (there are about 10 of these, with huge living room/dining room, large bedroom, large walk through bathroom, corner, etc.) These examples are not unusual.

BOTTOM LINE-------> If you don't ask, you don't get!!

Been told I was close but still no Platinum Premier

Marriott Westfield near Washington Dulles told me I was almost there back in February and WILL make it when I renew as a Platinum this year. How they know I have no ideal but they assured me that they had checked into it for me.

I've been a member for 14 years and a Platinum for 7 years with my peak being 150 nights 4 years ago. So far this year I am sitting at 63 nights.

My problem is since I have worked predominately as a Govt Contractor in the past. My contracts required me to stay and bill the govt at the Govt Per Diem. So I probably did not accrue as many dollars spent as some others might to make the top 1%.

But I Should be getting fairly close...

Can a Platinum Premier member how many nights he/she stayed in 2006? I'm a Platinum member and would like to know how to get to the Premier level.

First, tringles65, welcome to FT there is definitely a lot of good travel/miles/points information here.

As to your question on Plat Premier (PP) status, I don't think there is a set number of nights that will get one there. While Marriott has not officially stated what the requirements are, they are most likely based on revenue generation toward Marriott hotels most likely over a period of a few years. If you read through this whole thread, you will find some speculation on what % of Plats get offered PP status, but it is all just speculation.

The end result is one person could be staying 150-200 nights per year over a number of years and possibly not get PP status. Another person could stay only 100 nights over a couple of years, and get PP status. It depends on how much revenue they generate to Marriott (i.e. rates, # of rooms, conferences, etc.)

Overall, I personally think Marriott has the best overall "plan" for rewarding their highest most elites both within a year and those that show long term commitment. They have Platinum for 75 nights/year. They have Plat Premier the ulta-high spender. And they have Lifetime status (up to Platinum as far as I know) for those that show really long term (i.e. 12 years or more) commitment to staying at Marriotts.

Having had premier status for two years and then losing it this year, I can tell you that I have noticed a difference in the way I'm treated at just about all the properties. I'm just another PLT these days. In most of the properties I stayed at, a PPR was something out of the ordinary.

Like others here , no one knows for sure. I was told early on by some friends in Salt lake that the qualifications were 125+ nights a year, multi year PLT status and then only the top 3% of PLT's in terms of revenue.

Two things worked against me last year. I was under the 125 nights a year as a result of company policy and with the substantial increase in room rates I continue to catch a lot of heat for staying Marriotts. Not much I can do about either other than stay at Marriott when I can and find the cheapest rates. I can tell you there were a lot more FI's ( and I don't like FI')last year and that hurt the overall revenue.

I do miss the status but there is very little I can do to change it.

tringles65 Jun 13, 2007 3:39 am

Alot of the same information. I tried calling Marriott and was told that the top3% of Platinum are offered PP status. Does anyone know how much the top 3% stay or spend?

BigYellowDog Jun 13, 2007 7:36 am

2007 is my first year as PP. I've been Platinum starting in 2003 or 2004 and I was paying $99/night, staying on avg 150 nights per year mainly at a CY. Last year I had 165 nights. So if you meet those requirements, you should qualify, but if it is based on top 1-3% of Platinums, the qualifications could change slightly year to year making it more difficult to qualify during years where demand for Marriott is higher than years where business is sluggish. "Top x% qualify", indicates that members are essentially competing with other members for the status and there is no specific threshold that can be met.

Which is most likely why Marriott has not published any official thresholds.

VA1379 Jun 13, 2007 9:13 am

$99/night in 2003 or 2004 was a lot more impressive than it is now. With the increase in room rates, someone would have to spend roughly $140-150/night now for the same rooms in 2007.

I cannot see myself becoming platinum premier unless I end up hosting a lot of meetings at Marriott properties in the future. My average room rate is too low to qualify, and I am probably at the bottom in terms of incidental spending at FS properties.

And of course they will still be charging Gold and above for internet, my extreme personal pet pieve!!! jamjets
