Platinum Premier vs Platinum Elite - What's the difference ?

At least 50 nights and a lot more money....... :D

For me it has been a huge increase in upgrade rates and these have been happening at every Marriott brand.

I've also found the PPR desk to be very helpful in getting reservations for me, making calls to the property, and calling to clear award stays.

At the properties, I often get the comment they don't see many PPR's and you can tell they go out of there way to be helpful.

I'd suggest avoiding San Antonio NW. :D

My experiences have taught me that I get what I give. YMMV.

On my current track I am kind of guessing, and hoping, that I will be PP next year. BTW, when do they bless one with that honor?

The reason I asked is that I have booked an ATW trip with the following Marriott properties next January-March, and I hope the PP level might garner more/better upgrades. I booked basic Quality rooms in all cases:
  • Vail Marriott Resort and Spa: award stay for 3 weeks in Jan (I don't anticipate anything more than a Mountain View room for this long a stay during ski season)
  • Hong Kong JW Marriott: award stay for 4 nights in Feb
  • Phuket JW Marriott: paid stay for 5 nights in Feb
  • Bangkok Marriott Resort: paid stay for 3 nights in Feb
  • Sydney Harbor Marriott: paid stay for 3 nights in Mar
  • Paris Marriott Champs Elysees: award stay for 4 nights in Mar
  • London Renaissance Chancery Ct: award stay for 4 nights in Mar
Any insight on these properties with regard to upgrades as a PP would be appreciated, especially those for which I am staying on an award as I know that varies widely. TIA

I can't really comment on PP status helping with possible upgrades, but I do have one suggestion. I have stayed multiple weeks at hotels before as well. One time, my family came up for 4-5 days during that time to visit. The Marriott I was staying at offered to upgrade me for those 4-5 days, if I was willing to change rooms and then move back again afterwards.

So if you are willing to change rooms once or twice, you might be able to get a nice upgrade for part of the time you are there, just not the whole time.

It never hurts to ask. :)

We're going there either in March or April, depending on schedule. Hope I have PP status by then and get a nice upgrade. I've managed to get suite upgrades often with my PE status, but it's usually at hotels where the people recognize me.

I was a Platinum Premier all last year (2005) and have been a Platinum Elite for many many years.

This new status of "Premier" gave me a new 800 # to call into, but that is about it. I travel to many Marriott hotels all over North America for my work and I stay at the full service ones 95% of the time.

For example, in Washington, DC, I stay at the JW, the Mayflower, etc. and I do not see any extra treatment to me at all. I'm a very nice person, so its not my personality that might make them not do something extra for me. I don't get any room upgrades, no Suites, nada. So, its just a title with nothing behind it.

I even went to London and Ireland last year on vacation while being a "Premier" member and the Marriott hotels that I stayed at for my 3 weeks over there did not get me any extra treatment. No acknowledgment that I'm a "Premier" member and no extra treats in the room or room upgrades.

I think that the "Premier" status does not mean much at all at the Marriott hotels themselves. You only get a unique 800 # to call into, and that's it.

If some else has better results, I would like to hear them.

Other than that you hit the nail on the head, there is not much difference other than the phone number TTBOMK.

I did not see any extra room upgrades at all. No breakfast coupons at properties that I have been to many times over, like in the Washington, DC area I have been to all of the full services Marriotts possible. I have been to the very best Marriotts in London and Ireland and no extra service there either in 2005. No more attentive service at all as a "Platinum Premier" vs a "Platimum Elite". I have been traveling for almost 10 years all over North America at Marriotts mostly. I have been to SPG, Hilton, and others to test the waters. These others do match my status at Marriott and they have been nice to stay at.

I've been a Plat for 4 years and got PlatPrem this year. My experience varies by prop. - a couple have given me suite upgrades and a couple have not.

I have stayed at the Times Sq REN many times. I usually end up getting a corner room--which is larger and has a sitting room.

This past week, I was at the Oakland MAR and was upgrade to the Presidential Suite--even though I was on a very cheap rate ($113). They ended up forgetting my Plat gift, so I got the $100 credit. Room was almost free.

I am a Platinum Marriott member but have given up and moved elsewhere. Starwood and Hyatt have much better properties with more services. I am returning my card with a letter which I am certain will not make one bit of difference.

I think your actions do make a difference. Others might follow in your footsteps, like me. I have had much better treatment at Sheraton (spg.com - Starwood) hotels myself over Marriott. Sheraton does match the Marriott Platinum Elite status so when I stay at a Sheraton, they have given me very nice rooms with a computer printer right in it. I like the cookie and milk delivery at night. Their beds are outstanding!

Marriott Platinum Premier

Hi,

For anyone who is a Marriott Platinum Premier member, could you tell us how many nights are required, and if there are any other requirements to achieve this status? Also, are you aware of any other benefits offered beyond normal Platinum status?

The Platinum customer service agent told me "I think its over 200 nights a year, and based on some other criteria that Marriott corporate does not give to us". Overall, they seemed to know very little about this status level, which is surprising.

Any additional details?

Thanks,

Brian

I am one - don't know what got me there, but I had 139 nights last year (am already at 136 this year) so it obviously isn't 200 nights.

The only two benefits I see are one 800 number for all services and many properties give me a bump up to a very nice room - nicer than I got as a Platium. Nothing in writing on the web site or we'd all know the real answer ;) ;)

It looks like it's 125 nights plus being plat for at least the last two years, or at least was as of two years ago. Check out post #67 at:
