That wa exactly my point. Status doesn't matter at all. The only perks it gives you is bonus points and platinum guarantee. Which is still better than nothing.

I have found so far that upgrades vary by brand. For full service Marriott's (Marriott, Renassance, etc.) upgrades are very common - often at times even to suites, although they are specifically excluded under "room upgrades"
However, I have yet to receive a room upgrade for Courtyard, RI, etc. Although they usually honour all my room preferences - high floor, etc. I think this is mostly a case of YMMV depending on the brand, how full the hotel is, and your status level. |
The obsession with PP continues to baffle me. You'd think they actually rolled out a red carpet when you arrived at the hotel, but the reality is 90% of the staff think you are Plat.
Experiences may vary but there is enough documentation here that suggests 'special' treatment of PP's is sporadic at best. Spent the holiday in Europe at a FS Marriott in which there was no mention of being PP upon check in. More interesting, for the first time ever, they tried to sell me a suite upgrade for 80 Euros a night. The TOS clearly state suite upgrades are not included so there is nothing you can say except they obviously had suites available. In a discussion with one of the manager later in the week they said the suites had been sold out for the week, yet they apparently did have one that they would sell to me. Pretty fishy if you ask me. This latest experience (part of a recent trend) makes me think we need a dedicated thread detailing PP experiences at various properties. I certainly would be more inclined to stay at one property over another if they actually recognized what a PP was. |
So it looks like the logo mistake was corrected. Mine says Marriott Rewards Platinum Elite.
Does anyone know when PP is calculated/given out? Just curious to see if I'll make the cut. |
Think I am PP
I just noticed this AM that my elite nights changed to 0 from 159 and my account now says PP both the logo level on the home page. I have a stay starting Monday. Let's see if it makes a difference.

I show PP as well, but I only have 2 bonus nights with the count reset. I had 146 nights last year (and 71 should have carried over since that is the amount where I was over platinum). I think it is an error because I called the automated Rewards line and asked for my elite level. I was told that I need another 70 nights to keep platinum ( I have 5 nights posted, including the 2 bonus nights).

I hope it is true. I just called the PL desk they could not tell. I know I was just PL Saturday.
It looks like you made it - congratulations! But I'd wait for the dust to settle before popping the champagne. |
PP as well now
Just logged on and noticed my nights dropped to 0 and I'm PP for the level. We'll see if it makes a difference during my first stay of the year in a couple of weeks.

Has Anyone Here Ever LOST Platinum Premier Status?
It's that time of year where we're hearing about a lot of people being surprised that Marriott renewed or awarded platinum status even though they didn't hit 75 nights, and for new people to be pleasantly surprised to see "platinum premier" for the first time.
Of course I'm sure that Marriott does the analysis that tells them just where to draw the actual lines for these things (they don't want too many OR too few people at various levels), but I have to wonder if they're starting to dilute the program by granting top statuses too easily. This would be particularly true if, once you reach PP once, you pretty much keep it forever. The ranks of PP will slowly grow to the point where it will no longer be a rarely-seen (and well appreciated) level but instead simply the "new platinum". Has anyone here made it to PP then, due to lower nights stayed, lost it in a subsequent year? |

I'm more concerned about those extra nights than the PP status. I honestly don't think I am their typical PP customer, but maybe requirements were relaxed due to the drop in travel for 2009.
